With SM introducing Ultra-Beasts, what are your opinion on them? Do you wish for their return in the franchise? Why or why not?

I personally thought they were overhyped and didn't really enjoy them that much + I hope they don't bring them back. But that being said, I thought it was cool how GameFreak introduced the idea of a new "dimension/universe". It can explain some of the Space Pokémon, and introduce new Pokémon (+ kinda hints at a DPP Remake, cough @Palkia)

Bonus Question! : Did you capture & add an Ultra Beast to your team? + If GameFreak brings back Ultra-Beasts, what do you think they'll do with them?

I thought that the plot of Sun/Moon itself was a nod to the fourth generation, not just Palkia exclusively. But to be honest, I have mixed feelings about the UBs.

Since there are remaining questions about them, (for example the similarities between some of the UBs and game characters) I'd like to see them tie into the next 7th gen game/games. But they're just...weirdly unsettling. When 8th gen starts up years from now, I really hope that Game Freak forgets about them.

As for adding them to my team, not currently. It will likely happen in the future, though. And I have no clue what they'll do with them. Hopefully whatever happens with them is done well.

For all the hype they got pre-release it's disappointing they really had no presence in the main story. One scripted fight and that's it. The rest are just thrown in post-game as catching fodder instead of having any story significance. And for the all the chaos they supposedly caused, there's no evidence whatsoever. Adding to the fact that their involvement is both strictly post game and inconsequential barring the ending is a strange choice.

To me, they're just legendary pokemon with a different name, and I'm indifferent to whether they're brought back or not.

I'm not a fan of the Ultra Beasts, and their part in the story was incredibly vague. I expected more action from them tbh, so leaving it all until post-game was a bit disappointing, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. I think the concept and fanon they add to the games is interesting, but I have no desire to use them and personally think they should have been boss monsters you could not catch. I don't even want to use them competitively (and the sheer idea you might HAVE to have one on your team to do well sucks imo). I only caught them to complete the post-game quest, and it makes zero sense you can keep them since being outside their world apparently pains them... I really hope they're an exclusive Sun/Moon thing like Notch-Eared Pichu was to HGSS, but given Mega Evolution came back for Sun/Moon in a much smaller way makes that seem unlikely tbh.

If there's a remake of D/P, then I can see them being used in that in a larger way like the original post suggests. It makes a lot of sense. But after Gen 7 I'd like to see them gone lol. I can't see them making much sense existing in other generations unless they all have a dimensional travel plot line in them XD

I wonder if they'll decide Giratina is an Ultra Beast? It does have a rather creepy design and lives in another world. Hmm...

I just thought they looked cool But i did not enjoy hunting after them at all It was way too tedious and got old rather quickly I was happy when i completed that side mission So i could move on and get that cash price

I simply don't understand what is the point of them really They don't even look like pokemon Why were they so overhyped in the first place?

I think that they should leave the Ultra beasts in S/M as they are I don't want to see them in the future games

I did catch all of them though Just for the heck of it Used the Moon ultra beasts in a online battle once After that i have never used them again.

While I was very dissapointed they didn't do much of anything in the story, and really other than Nihilego had pretty much no impact on the game whatsoever, I do like them. I love Buzzwole, and Kartana and Nihilego have been really fun to use too, Lum Berry Swords Dance Kartana does lots of work in the battle tree. As for the designs, they really weirded me out for the longest time, and still do, they're just so..... odd.... but I'm not complaining, I think it's neat, and adds to the viarety of Pokemon, especially since we mostly went back to simple and cute designs this generation.

While it was really disappointing how little they did in the story, I really like the beasts themselves, I think their designs are really great, they made them look really unsettling, weird and like a terrible threat but in the end they are just adorable dorky things, they are all quite unique.

They are obviously not getting rid of them since they classify as pokemon now that the rotomdex registered them (And I don't think TPCi would kill of any pokemon), but they'll probably be exclusive to gen7 in game and we'll need to transfer them through bank later on, like most legendaries.
I do expect them to be plot relevant still in the next gen7 game though, since we are still missing info on their relation with Necrozma and the Ultra Wormholes.

As for myself, Kartana is here to stay on my team, I love the little paper sword, its so cute! When I first seen the leaked artwork with Celesteela I didn't like it much, but after playing with it I absolutely love it, I can't get over how tiny it is, and it's just adorable in refresh!
All UBs turned out to be kinda cute, but Kartana slashed it's way into my favs~

Yeah I definitely agree that for the amount of hype they got, I'm surprised there wasn't a lot more focus on them, saying that, I'm not really a fan of the Ultra Beasts so I'm not too bothered haha.

I don't want them to come back either, although the whole idea of there being an ulternate dimension means it's possible for them to appear in other games :/

Considering the Ultra Beasts are in the pokedex (and have their own number) it's pretty much confirmed that they'll be sticking around. Removing them would be the same as removing any other new Pokemon they've added. It's fair to consider them as Pokemon at this point.

Personally I really love how unapologetically strange they are. My favourites would be Nihilego and Guzzlord. (I don't dislike any of them though)

One thing I would like in future games if we get to explore Ultra Space some more, is to have access to "regular" ultra beasts. As in ones you can encounter in the wild, breed and such. (so not like legendaries or special Pokemon)

My main concern though is that this will just be a once off and we'll never hear about Ultra Space again after this generation. It would a lot cooler if this was them leading up to something.

They're weird. I'm glad there aren't more of them. I like the amount of space they had in the story though, and the concept of them. Just... most of them look really funky and don't really jive with the rest of Pokemon.

Yes, exactly. If nothing more comes up in future games it'll feel odd to have these half dozen weirdos sitting in the Pokedex while everyone ignores that one time physics went all weird and alien Pokemon from the Z-dimension invaded Hawaii.

Like, in future games how are we supposed to catch them?

I fell in love with the Ultra Beasts as soon as I saw them. Their oddball designs coupled with their unique typings, movepools, and Pokedex entries drive home the fact that they really are creatures from another dimension. To make them more akin to existing Pokemon designs would make them decidedly less unique.

I'm disappointed that, other than Nihilego, they don't make an impact on the overworld or story in any meaningful way. You never encounter any supposed signs of destruction they have caused. Relegating the rest of them as post-game quest fodder was a waste of potential. Hopefully they expand on them in a future title, preferably in the same game where Necrozma gets more information revealed as well.

I do expect them to come back, at least for the next Gen. 7 games which may or may not include remakes of Gen. 4. They're other-dimensional beings - GameFreak can conjure a good-enough answer for them to be post-game catchables in future games without detracting from their plots.

Can't stand em man! They don't seem to have any overall theme. Some look super realistic like the cable guy, others like guzzlord look like gen 4 mons with way too many fins on them, doesn't have a nice theme, and feels iffy to use in battle when they're so clearly made for competitive. They seem too forced, would much rather they literally got removed from the dex

I really like Nihilego a lot. I sort of decided to build a pokemon team of nothing but Legendary pokemon when I got close to the end of the game, and out of all of the Ultrabeasts, Nihilego fit into my team the best and I also think it has the best visual appearance out of all the UB's. The more I've used it on my team and cared for it the more I've gotten attached to it, it acts really cute and has beautiful looking animations.

Ignoring how much I like Nihilego, I agree with a lot of the others on here about how they built up UB's to be this humongous plot impacting set of monsters and then didn't really do much with them except for Nihilego. It really was quite a let down and I really hope that eventually they will rectify it by writing a story in the future that is focused more about the UB's. Su/Mo did have a lot of open ended plot devices that suggested that many of the space beasts from D/P/PT have something in relation to the UB's, so we can only hope that in the future those hints will actually show fruition into a deeper plot for the UB's *cough* (D/P/PT remakes?) *cough*.

The UBs themselves are not bad, but the thing I don't like about them (and by extension, that I don't like about a lot of the Pokemon franchise) is their ordering in the Pokedex - it just seems odd that these mystical beings have just as much space in the Pokedex as a Magikarp.

But yes, definite nod to 4th Gen.

How awkward they look really made me hate on them, though some of them did grew on me in the end.

And as far as I know that Kartana is designed from paper making thingy, it still remind me too much of the paper dolls we Chinese burn for the death. I hate him up to these days.

I'm unsure exactly how we're going to catch them in future games. They seem very story centric in a way, which would make them odd and look out of place if they were encountered in say, Gen VIII's region or in a Sinnoh remake or something, unless there were actual plot reasons for it.
Gamefreak has shoehorned legendaries into regions they don't belong/have no reason to be in quite a couple of times, the most extreme case of this being in ORAS having pretty much everyone in there, so it wouldn't suprise me if they pulled another Hoopa and made the UBs appear randomly on another game. After all just like Hoopa with it's rings, Solgaleo/Lunala can willingly open Ultra Wormholes, so as long as either of those 2 appear in the game, they could make UBs appear again.

From what I've read Kartana is based on some kind of origami called Noshi, it is given with gifts as a token of good luck.

Yep I know. That word just won't come up in my brain yesterday.

Still, my first impression was paper doll and it's stuck with me.

Whilst I only like about half the Ultra Beasts I think they bring a nice and different approach to Pokemon. They may look different than Pokemon but not overly so.

For example Buzzwole (My Favourite UB) could be seen as a giant bug Machamp.

As to how they might put them in future games. They could have Ultra Space be a post game area or simply go the Gen 5 route and have them randomly put in like they did with the Lake Guardians.

Story has never been a priority in Pokemon games and I'd rather have them shoehorned in to future games than relying on importing them in from Sun/Moon or have to wait for events.

To be fair we were able to catch loads of legendaries through wormholes in ORAS (thanks to Hoopa) so having Ultra Wormholes appear leading you to the Ultra Beasts in a future game wouldn't be that unusual.

It'll just be a disappointing if it's just that and they don't explore Ultra Space more...
