4th Gen Update! Pokemon heart gold and soul silver 5/16/09

That is what we'll most likely have to do, yes. Though, it'll come pretty quickly, I'm sure.

In yellow they had Pikachu following you, but no emotions was really shown.
If the player turned around and "talked" to Pikachu, a pop-up screen would appear with Pikachu's face in it, and Pikachu would be animated and show how it was feeling towards the player/surroundings.

It would be rather cute and fun to see that still used in HG/SS with whatever Pokemon is following you. It gave the little critter more of a personality, which is always a good thing.

So they did do it then. Then, you know what, they should definitely bring this back, seeing as they already brought back the idea of the starter following us. Hopefully, if they do, it might be mentioned in another set of updates.

I can on;y imagine how cute they'll look on screen.

if they did that, i can't wait to see chikorita- in yellow, if i remember correctly, you could hear a faint "pikachu" whenever you clicked on it or "talked" to it- they could use the ds sound quality to their advantage and make it.... well.... not a word, but---- Hear..a..ble..... yeaahh....... oph sorry,. i'm ranting again- but yeah it would be cool

Totally. In yellow, although an ok attempt was made...:
''Pi*(CRACKLE)*ka*(STATIC)*CCCSSSSHUUUU''. It'd be cool to hear a little ''Chiko!'' or ''To-doh!'' (or maybe even a lil ''Quil!'' from Cyndaquil, but mehp.)

If they did the same thing as Yellow in that you could talk to the Pokemon, I don't believe they would say their name or anything, but stick to their cry (or variations of it?). Mainly as I recall something abotu people from Game Freak saying they did not wish to ever use the whole 'Pokemon repeat their names' thing in their games...

But we shall see - first;ly if you can talk to your Pokemon in the first place. Then again, Yellow was the only game to go and draw on elements from the anime - don't see it happening again.

So! Another update to come within half-a-day, it seems... with apparently the Notched-Ear Pichu to be talked about. Wonder if any light will actually be shed, or if they'll just state what we know about it. =/ Another short video though is something I wouldn't put past them.

so pretty much we'll be playing the same story with barely some new stuff

They are thinking about adding some Action elements into the game. Who knows if they will do that with Heart Gold and Soul Silver?

"Could the next Pokemon game be more than just an RPG?"

Hah, they're taking the same quote and applying it to GS remakes now, fun. (This was already discussed elsewhere... here: https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/179538).

I already gave my thoughts there, so might as well restate them - it appears to be from all things, just an innocent statement made by him, responding to random questions in an interview. 'Hey - what do you think about putting action in Pokemon games?' 'Oh...well, I like action. It'd be nice' is basically the response - doesn't mean anything near that it will happen.
Quoting from myself:
If they want to add action to the games - as in, Game Freak themselves, I don't see it replacing the main, handheld series we know from RBY to D/P/Pt (and HG/SS), but rather being a separate one. Even if you were of the opinion that it's a repetitive, stagnant series (and you'd be right on the repetitive part - get Pokemon from a professor named after a tree, beat 8 gyms and become the Champion, insert plot on beating Team *insertnamehere* from doing something bad, catch some legendary Pokemon, add side features and you've got yourself a Pokemon game!), it's one that works very well - it gets its millions of sales at least, and that's what defines a game being successful or not - its sales.

And given the fact they've persisted with the same formula all this time with success - it isn't getting replaced. But of course doesn't mean that Game Freak wouldn't do such a thing (although it seems quite the different move for them...). Doubtful too that if they made such a game it'd be on the Wii as well, given they like to work on the handheld systems (and reportedly had no plans on making a Wii RPG, in another short articles a few months back).
Doubt they'd just go and mix this into a GS remake, really - it's a vague quote, and given the above they don't even need it - it may be a nice thing and all, but suddenly implementing it all would be odd given it's a GSC remake and such a thing wouldn't be easy to slot into such a game as well, I'd think. If they were making a game with the such as well, I'd imagine to advertise it they would have mentioned it from the outset, rather than have it as some feature unveiled afterwards. It would be something that would get a lot of attention, so considering there's no mention of it yet...

Just doesn't seem like something to expect, really - doesn't quite add up. A different action game made by Game Freak separate from their main best-selling game series I could maybe see, but not really thrown in like this here. If anything it sounds just like other instances of things getting misquoted and misinterpreted, leading to wild expectations and then disappointment... like:
Reminds me of an instance when Sakurai, who is responsible for the SSB line, was quoted as saying he'd possibly be making an 'updated' version of Brawl. Everybody jumped up and down. Turns out it was taken out of context, of course - just said that he would have liked more time to put more content in, really.

At any rate, it's a quote from a random interview - lack of mentioning that 'we are going to use them in these games' or the such means for me at least, that before I expect it I'd wait for any official info on the such. It could happen, yet I doubt it.

EDIT: lolwut? From that link:
'We already know that HG/SS have some pretty large departures from the source material from just the little information revealed so far. If Masuda has been working on these games for the best part of the past 3 years while he handed over the torch for Platinum's development - could it be that all this time has been spent on making HG/SS a serious clash of old and new?

Could Genius Sonority's long silence be indicative of their working on a new Wii title to Masuda's specifications?
Given that this person has had NOTHING to do with Genius Sonority to my knowledge (he works with Game Freak games after all? And Genius Sonority made Colosseum/XD/PBR, and will have no hand with the GS remakes)... yeah. Sounds misguided. =/

Things are getting a lot more interesting as time goes on. Though, elemental action, how exactly would the implement something like that into the game without steering away from the originals? I mean it sounds cool, but I don't think it would be too needed right now.

I think the action elements he's talking is about that new project game that Masuda has apparently been working on.

Has no relation to HG/SS whatsoever.

I thought the elemental idea was a bit off, though you never knew what Pokémon might come up with next in a few years down the road. Though, for right now, Johto should stick to being close to its original with the few chanegs that have been shown and of course with more to be revealed.

I just honestly hope if they do bring the starter following the trainer back, it would be an optional feature. I am not the biggest fan of it. Like I would probably do it but I wouldn't want it following me all the time out of it's pokeball. If it was optional, that would be really cool.

Maybe they'll make it an option, like if you click on it, then it will do something like show its emotion and then say, "Would you like to return ____ to its Pokéball?" or something along those lines.

Yeah i think they will do that ^^, And maybe it's only for starter pokemon.

You know what, seeing as that Pichu is outside the Pokéball, I wonder if it will be like, All starters from every region, and only Pichu can follow you?

I also would like to see how the pichu event plays out, if you can trade pokemon from diamond and pearl that would be an intresting thing to see.

It will be compatable with DPPt, because the Pikachu-Colored Pichu event in Japan, says that when you trade it over from Pt to HGSS then you'll activate the Notch Eared Pichu event in the HGSS games.

Yeah, But maybe that is only for the notched ear pichu event, I Also wonder if you bring pokemon over on diamond from pokemon fire red via the pal park, could you then trade the pokemon
you got from fire red and traded to diamond and then trade them to HG/SS.

I wouldn't doubt that it couldn't be done, meaning yes, it most likely will be allowed. I think they have designed DPPt and the new GSDS games to be 100% or at least 99.9% Compatable.
