Used clothing, to eww or not to eww?

If it's washed, why does it matter?

It might just be the idea that there's a higher chance that undergarments and pyjamas have... unpleasant histories... compared to shirts and pants.

I don't like the idea that, although washed, the lingerie and undergarments at thrift stores have had sexual bodily fluids on them.

That, and I don't trust that washing will completely eliminate STDs. I personally prefer to just avoid that chance altogether. Sure, t-shirts and pants could've come into contact with sexual bodily fluids, too, but the chances are way less significant compared to lingerie - which is worn primarily for sexiness, and therefore probably sex - and undergarments, where women could've lactated, or been aroused and excreted certain fluids, or men could've had a bedtime accident.

I prefer to not potentially put myself in harm's way if I can avoid it :P and if I can get a nice lingerie elsewhere for 20$ instead of 10$, I'll do it, since I'm more confident that there's less chance it'd have experienced the same kind of "treatment."

As long as said clothes never touch my intimate areas. 9-9

No used undergarments for Shiny Bunnelby.

I mean, I get that, but there's a lot of things in this world that have had sexual bodily fluids on them that people have to deal with, like beds at hotels, pools, couches in someone's home, and really anywhere else you can think of.

Yeah, but if you can avoid certain things, then why not, right? Some things can't be avoided or you'd just look paranoid.

"Sorry, I can't sit on your couch, bra; I bet someone's had a good rump on it."

Just seems silly.

I can avoid buying my undies second-hand, though :P and they're like, 3$ at La Senza, so you're not really saving money going second-hand on that stuff anyway. Bras, maybe, but they're 15-25$ pending brand, too, and for the knowledge that it's clean and safe, I'd prefer spending an extra 5$.

Also leaves more product for people who aren't bothered by it so much.

I also don't want to have to think about, "Who got fingered in this?" or "Who had sex in this?" lol It'd make me uncomfortable, since I'm physically wearing it, and now it's on my intimate areas. If you're on a couch, you're probably not nakey, so less contact.

I wasn't really encouraging anyone to buy used underwear.

lol :P OK. I thought that's what you were referencing.

Used undies / bras and lingerie is just #shudders. Bathing suits are basically the same thing, so they fall in this category.

Socks is weird, too. If you wear 'em too much, they get crusty from sweat. Ew lol washing machine doesn't fix it, either.

Everything else is pretty OK.

When I was in my teens, I would buy cheap gently used clothes at Plato's Closet. They were mostly shirts. I can see why other teens sold the clothes to the store because the colors were faded or required to be hand-washed. :p

I can't really recall buying any shorts, but used shoes and used lingerie/swimwear were always a no-go.

I don't buy from thrift shops and the like, but I do donate my old clothes to them.

I'm fine with handmedowns and such, from the family. Haven't had a reason to buy second hand though

hmm don't actually buy them myself but don't see what's wrong with purchasing a used shirt or two every now and then if they're in good condition/washed etc. I definitely wear hand me downs and things like that d:

I have no problem with purchasing clothes from thrift stores and such. Even pants. I've bought shoes from thrift stores as well as pants and shirts and sweaters. They wash them before selling them, so there's no real concern in that. If you're honestly that concerned about wearing clothes that were worn by other people, your best bet is to wash them yourself after buying them.
