Would you change your username?

So they're indefinitely on hold again which sucks because I actually wanted a name change, haha.
I'd just like to say that this is a really good thing - please don't change your username Erica. :(

Occasionally I set my name to be pink in the postbit for fun. I could change the name there too but that'd be unfair and probably very confusing. :P

Wanna make mine pink today Erica? Do you just have that urge? I'm sure you do.

Yup. Turned everything off so that the only thing able to access them was the script for name changes itself and it still crashed PC for an hour or two the other day. :( So they're indefinitely on hold again which sucks because I actually wanted a name change, haha.

I wonder whether we can take advantage of PC's scheduled downtimes... that are already longer than usual compared to other forums. :)

The current downtimes are brought about usually when we're backing up, or the server is being hit hard either by heavy traffic or users doing resource-heavy actions - mods running IP searches on users with many addresses springs to mind. If we were to make name changes available and then run them in downtimes, I dread to think how long it'd tak, especially when the only scheduled ones are for backups, and they're already much longer than we want them to be. ~_~

Heh. I thought of this idea that "changes" your username, but not really. It's mostly just a postbit hack.
Oh snap, I had the same idea a few months ago!! Though in mine, it would look like this, and would be called display names instead:

[PokeCommunity.com] Username Changes!

See how it has your username underneath?

And the profile field for that would only be editable by administrators so to make sure that display names wouldn't be changed to a username someone already has. There'd be a display name change thread in CQ&F that'll be treated exactly the same as the old username change threads were.

I don't think we'd use display names, though. There are too many places where usernames are located at in the code.

On the off chance we did, no, we wouldn't have to sacrifice usertitles. I just don't display them in the postbit since they don't mean anything to me other than a waste of space. :P

And an even bigger problem - this still doesn't solve the problem of logging in and having special Unicode characters.

You were the one who chose to have those characters in your username, yo, lol. :P

We only have one username, and those are what you log in with now, so that...

But I don't think that that was what he was talking about. :(

Since I can't exactly use a display name to log into PC, it's nigh useless for me.

...again, you were the one who chose to have those characters in your username, knowing that it was the final username change. o__O

Hehe. Guess it's a bit of a bother, but oh well. seriously, though, these staff members changing their usernames had me gotten excited for a second or two. What a downer.

Sorry :x We thought it'd be back for you guys too!!

I bet that the databases have some sort of fundamental problem that needs sorting out. But still, if no real username changes are allowed, Twiggy will be a sad Twiggy. :P Also, some bit of consistency and not having to do some funny stuff with input

I am sorry, we were simply test subjects ;-;

Oh well. Guess the server had to throw wrenches here and there. :P

Guess I'll never get one at this rate, considering that display names are not an option, since they (obviously) don't solve the problem of logging in.

I've been through so many name changes that I'm happy with what I've got. The only thing that I would possibly change it back to would be Bobby.
