How is it fair that the mods get name changes and we don't?

The mods that got their names changed were test subjects. There are plenty of staff members that wanted a change and didn't get it because they didn't happen to be around right when Audy was ready to test it, so it's not like all mods that wanted a name change got one or something like that. Someone had to see if it worked, you wouldn't know until a name was changed that it didn't work, lol.

Fairness is in the eye of the beholder. One could simply find anything unfair no matter how fair it truly is. Mods do work. In essence some of the fun could be taken out of PC by accepting a mod position. Let us not play the why do they get this game and we don't. It was stated that they changed a few select names to test if the possibility of names changes could happen again, which it can't. Also, there are far less mods then CS's.

Heh, I just had an Msn convo with someone about this exact topic. It wasn't that only mods were picked - Audy needed people to test on, he asked in the IRC, and the first people to reply each time happened to be mods. There's no thread for mod name changes anywhere and from what I've seen, there's been no actual picking of individual mods. Someone who had their name changed can correct me if need be, but from what I understand, that's how it happened. The fairness of asking in the IRC is debatable but without opening a public thread which would be absolutely bombarded and raise too much hope about permanent name changes being given, I don't know how else this could have been done.

I'd change it to Crimson5, I picked this name because I thought it would give me a better chance of being a mod because fireworks are pretty. Now I don't care about being a mod and want my name to be the same as it is in cool places such as the planet and stuff idk what I'm talking about anymore it's late.

I've had this name for years, and I don't feel the need to change it at all. My alt however, if I could I'd change to something else because right now I can't even remember how to type the last character since it doesn't appear in regular Charmaps and have to C/P from the members list whenever I want to log into that account.

I'm curious, but has Audy tested this new system on users with smaller postcounts? (less than 100 or 50 or so)

Perhaps we can use it for fixing new user's usernames. I wouldn't mind changing my Alt's name and give it back to Sydian.

It doesn't matter the post count, the script has to check every post, VM, and PM that has ever existed for the possibility that that name with 0 posts or whatever might have put it there.

Oh, I see, that makes sense. I hear the servers fail whenever a name change is performed, right? Why does this happen? Isn't it fixable?

the servers fail because of the sheer number of names that have to be changed. each instance of a username has to be changed individually, and this takes a huge amount of time and resources from the server. i guess the fix would be to get a better server or to modify the database so that this:
audy said:
vBulletin has the ability to let guests post without registering, in which case they'd type in a username. It's stored with the post, it's not linked to any sort of account.

Now, that same spot where the username is stored (with the post) is also used when a regular member makes a post. It looks at your account and, well, the easiest way to explain it is that it just "copies" your username into the post's part of the database.

The problem is that when you change a username, it has to go through all of those posts and change it there too, in addition to each of the other places in the database that store it.
doesn't happen. neither is particularly feasible right now, though.

LOL! No wonder Nica was the first name change - alwaaays on irc. hahahahahahaha

I also don't know why people are so fixated on name changes. It's just your username on a Pokemon forum... I highly doubt people are going to condemn your choice for life/it has any huge impact on your life in its entirety.

But you don't understand, poor little ♪Twiggy♪ is mercilessly made fun of every day because of his username! When he walks down the street people SPIT on him, they laugh at him, they mock him! He is a social exile in his town all because of his username on pokecommunity.com, isn't that tragic? He begs for the evil townsfolk to stop laughing at him, to stop taunting him day after day, week after week, month after month, but it just... doesn't... stop...
"Please! Haven't I suffered enough? Your usernames aren't amazing either!" He yells, trying to talk reason into these crazy, delusional people. But his efforts are futile. Instead, he must walk home in the rain whispering to himself "I walk a lonely road, the only one that I ever ever known..." whilst orphans throw shoes at him.

So you see, your username on pokecommunity.com is an incredibly big deal. At least, for poor ♪Twiggy♪'s sake.

Its not really important to me right now to get a name change, as this is the name I use on several forums, however Ive gotten bored of it as of late, but not enough to want a name change or make a new account. I mean name changes might be nice to have back if they are ever possible again without wrecking the forum, bit for now this name is just fine.

Well, Live wasn't in IRC and he still got it though, lol? He didn't even know about it. It's not like I really care, but that kind of deminishes the credibility of the IRC thing.
