I have dared to dream, and that dream has led me to this: the formation of a UU Stall team that does not use any members of competitive battling's favorite "staple" special sponging family. Of course, every team can always use some help, so I am asking for advice on this team for my first ever RMT.
Oh, and before I begin, please keep in mind that this is for Wi-Fi, not Shoddy, which means that event moves and the like are not going to be particularly viable. However, I doubt that I actually need to say this, but go ahead and assume that all relevant IVs are set at 31, anyway.
Registeel @Leftovers
Careful/Impish Nature
252 HP/100 DEF/156 SP. DEF
Stealth Rock
Thunder Wave/Toxic
Iron Head
Earthquake
Smogon's Lead Registeel, only with the Attack EVs moved into Defense for a bit more longevity. Earthquake over Explosion for the sake of hitting other Steels a bit harder. I realize that the Smogon set uses Careful, however I am debating using Impish instead to give my team a bit more physical durability. I also need a bit of help deciding on the status move: Toxic matches the rest of the team better, but Thunder Wave hits most of those Pokemon that poison cannot. Any suggestions?
Roserade @Leftovers -Natural Cure-
Calm Nature
252 HP/252 SP.DEF/4 SPEED
Spikes
Rest
Sludge Bomb
Energy Ball
This was originally a SubSeeding Spiker, but Dark_Azelf suggested focusing purely on special walling, so here it is. It might lose the element of team support that the previous set had, but it heals itself much more efficiently with Rest combined with Natural Cure.
Spiritomb @Leftovers
Bold Nature
252 HP/252 DEF/4 SP. ATK
Rest
Sleep Talk
Calm Mind/Will-O-Wisp
Dark Pulse
Ah, CroTomb. I still have a variant of this that was used in Early D/P OU, so I know just how dangerous this can be. Blocks Rapid Spin, immune to Fake Out and the two Fighting-type priority moves, absorbs status...what else can I say, really? He stays, even if the entire team is thrown out.
Clefable @Leftovers -Magic Guard-
Calm Nature
252 HP/40 SP. ATK/216 SP. DEF
Wish
Protect
Encore
Flamethrower
Yes, Clefable, my replacement for Chansey. There were two major reasons for picking this fairy:
1. Magic Guard.
2. It can actually use Wish without needing to come from an event.
Anyway, Smogon standard Wish support along with Encore stalling.
Claydol @Leftovers
Bold Nature
252 HP/144 DEF/112 SP. DEF
Rapid Spin
Toxic
Earth Power
Shadow Ball/Psychic
Rapid Spinner, again from Smogon but with the offensive EVs moved into defense, as well as Stealth Rock removed due to it already being covered. Cloyster was once again considered for this spot, as was Blastoise, but I decided against it as both of them lack the immunities and resistances that Claydol's typing and ability give it.
Altaria @Leftovers
Calm Nature
252 HP/200 DEF/56 SP. DEF
Perish Song
Haze/Sing
Dragon Pulse/Pursuit
Roost
Now this one, I have some serious doubts about. I was looking for a Pokemon that could both handle last-Pokemon sweeps and provide a direct threat to stat-boosting sets while at the same time providing either offensive threat or defensive bulk. I originally had my eye on Honchkrow, but seeing as that is currently banned from UU for at least the time being, I needed to settle for something else. This was my eventual choice, but the moveset is undecided as of yet. Of course, Perish Song is a given, as is Roost, but what goes with those two is what I need to decide on. I suppose that Sing does have a certain synergy with Pursuit, although that low accuracy and resulting Taunt weakness is unattractive.
There you have it. Now for the tally:
Pokemon resistant/immune to Stealth Rock: 3
Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock: 1
Pokemon affected by Spikes: 3
Pokemon affected by Toxic Spikes: 0.5 x2 -Clefable takes no damage due to Magic Guard, and Spiritomb has Rest-
Pokemon available to absorb status: 4
Pokemon available to absorb Toxic Spikes: 1
Wish Passer? Check.
Stealth Rock? Check.
Spikes? Check.
Toxic Spikes? Not included, due to the mass of Poison-types in UU.
Weather? Not included.
Status absorber? Check.
Status infliction? Check.
Rapid Spin? Check, although perhaps not necessary.
Rapid Spin blocker? Check.
Hazer/Pseudo-hazer? Check.
Way to stop last-Pokemon sweeps? Check.
There you have it. I could not really come up with any major "counters" to this team, although as I look at it now I see some potential problems with Mix Blaziken carrying HP Ice--which I wish that I could come up with a way to handle--, as well as the same Rain Dance weakness that plagues most UU teams, so I am probably forgetting about others as well. So, rate/comment/flame away.
