In celebration of the overblown, romance-promoting, capitalist horror that is Valentine's day, we've got a fun little challenge for you!

IT'S DATING TIME!

In this event, players will sign up with a character who is looking for love. That character will then be assigned to another player, who must create that character's date. The pairs will then roleplay together, and the pair with the most chemistry wins!

...too succinct? Okay, let's break it down. Communication and clarity are important, after all!

♡ Writing​

The IC thread will open on February 14th. At this point, you will have two different writing partners- one who has created a character to date yours, and one who you have created a date for. You must work with each of your partners to roleplay the perfect date for your characters (or, at least, an entertaining one...). But keep in mind: each couple may only go on one date, and each date must be contained in a single post. That's right- you'll only be writing two posts for this whole event, so make them good ones! And get them done and submitted before February 25th at 5PM CST (GMT-6).

♡ Judging​

Once the IC thread closes, a poll will be posted in the OOC thread. This poll will be open until February 28 at 5PM CST (GMT-6). In it, you will vote for the couple(s) that YOU think have the most chemistry. Votes for your own pairs will be discarded. Anyone may vote in the poll, even if they weren't part of the event. The amount of votes for each couple will be added to their total score.

In the meantime, the mods will distribute points to couples based on their posts. Since this is about the romance, we will be looking for things like romantic gestures, characters' attentiveness to their dates, good conversations- things that make use believe they could be or are a good couple, y'know?

Points will be tallied when the poll closes, and the three winning couples will have art drawn of their characters!

AGE: 32.9. That is statistically the median age of the human population in Albania, which is in turn the median country in the list of median ages internationally.
GENDER: Male. He is very confident in that assumption, but is not offended if one were to describe him as otherwise.
SEXUAL/ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Yes.
LOVE LANGUAGE(S): Words of Affirmation. Joe requires constant validation about the impeccable status of his jawline, and any compliments directed at other parts of his appearance or personality are either taken as outright lies or indirect insults to his facial bone structure.

APPEARANCE: Joe is the quintessential personification of a perfect (and I mean, perfect) jawline. Born out of the pure, unbridled human energy of desiring a sharp, cutting jawline and courting a partner with one, Joe is ageless and is unaware of where he is from or what he even looks like - for he has no facial features (save for the proverbial jawline). His entire ability to sense the world around him derives from its ability to notice his perfect jawline, and if he is ever put in a situation where it is covered, he is as good as deaf, blind and mute simultaneously. This has not been a problem yet, however, as Joe has found himself in constant company of humans who are in constant hyper-awareness of his jawline.

In terms of clothing, Joe wears only what is required by law and whatever fine dining establishment he is in (though he cannot eat, the food typically disappears out of politeness at the sight of his impressive jawline).

PERSONALITY:

Unsurprisingly, Joe is a self-centered, proud and even theatrical person, both out of character and his constant need for others to notice him. He is nonetheless extremely polite and charming to those he chooses to interact with, but is quick to change moods if they commit the eternal sin of not caring about (or worse, not noticing) his fabulous jawline.

Deep down, Joe knows he needs to move past his face. It is all his self-worth lies on, and if not for it, he believes he is nothing. A true partner would make him realize this, and teach him that his existence has value that extends past the sides of his face.

You could say one of her primary objectives is to make her partner feel proud to have her by his side, but also to cheer him up and keep him motivated.

APPEARANCE: Helene stands at 5'7'' and is a fairly chubby girl by constitution, but tries to keep her weight under control and has a rather active lifestyle. She has a rather pale complexion, some freckles on her face, and hazel eyes. Her rather long and straight hair would also be of the same color, but she's recently dyed it mahogany - not quite red, not quite purple, but something in the middle.
Although not a fan of excessively colorful clothes, she likes items that look fancy and detailed. So, unless she's busy with something that demands otherwise, she'll be happy to wear blouses, skirts, dresses and heels. She especially has a sweet spot for lace...
When it comes to accessories, she actually doesn't use many: usually it's just a watch (an important present from her family), one or two ribbons on her hair, and a pair of earrings. And for the days when the weather's colder, the choices go from a leather jacket to a fancy, black trenchcoat. Finally, for make-up... well, she tends to overdo it.

PERSONALITY: Very ambitious and headstrong, at least on the outside, Helene knows how to keep herself and her friends motivated - and to those who stick with her, she's always grateful. She's quite the knowledgeable and curious girl, and also appears to take good care of her health... but depending on who you ask she may also become nitpicky, vain, or outright annoying at times. Not exactly a personality for everyone!
If anything, her problem is that she doesn't always have a surefire way to reach her own goals, or even the ability to set some realistic ones for herself! She's often nervous because of this, and tends to make rash decisions or get into undesirable situations. But... it's nice to be a dreamer, right?

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: She spent one day on a school trip to a famous, royal residence, and was completely blown away by what she saw. That moment really shaped her life up to this point, so much so that her interest in acting is all due to her hope of getting the role of a princess someday. If she's not actually from nobility, at least she can pretend... right?
In other words, she's definitely not a princess. She may try to act like one, but she easily slips up and reveals her usual mannerisms - plus, she has a quite distinguishable "countryside girl" accent that doesn't really help things.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A ROMANTIC PARTNER?
A prince! A pure-hearted man of noble heritage who will give her the life she's only seen in movies! Someone who can make her feel like her ambitions and dreams are valid and are kept in good hands. Contrary to popular opinion, Helene is not that keen on titles and money when it comes to her partner... all she truly needs is to have someone that likes her for what she is, and that she feels comfortable around.

APPEARANCE:Throughout his life, Jules has been consistently interested in traditionally feminine things, and it's reflected in his appearance. He wears lots of pink, his favorite color, and isn't even afraid to wear skirts or dresses often, and likes to carry small objects around in a purse rather than any pockets. He's often mistaken for a girl by many, but it doesn't bother him one bit.

He's about 5'7", and his pale skin with blonde curly hair has given him the nickname "Goldilocks" among some, usually as a form of mockery- but Jules takes it as a compliment.

PERSONALITY: Jules is very calm and collected, and is the kind of person to do things just for the thrill of them, although even he has his limits- but he doesn't mind if someone tries pushing him past that. In fact, that's often a requirement for him to be close with somebody. New experiences are everything to him, and someone who only offers things that are safe bore him, although he might not be very honest if he thinks it might upset somebody.

In general, he tries to maintain a positive outlook, and among friends is the one to cheer everyone up when things are looking down.

His hunger for unfamiliar things has led him to be pretty tolerant of all kinds of people, even if said people might view him in a negative light. Insults just sort of deflect off of him. As he puts it, "I'd much rather be bothered or afraid for my life than spend another day with little to do."

LIKES: New experiences, cute and "girly" things, fruit, honesty, art, movies and TV- especially romance.

DISLIKES: Having his time wasted, cowardice, soy, pessimism.

KiritoFan21 is hopelessly, shamelessly addicted to anime. Having no urgent demands on their time once establishing a place to stay with electricity, they watched it for years at a time, only pausing from time to time to use the synthetic body's shape changing function to cosplay as their favourite characters. Finally, at age 28, their extreme loneliness led them to switch off Crunchyroll and embark on this quest to find love.

Because of this singular focus, KiritoFan21 is not exactly easy to hold a conversation with; they have had very few in their lives. They are bafflingly straightforward and will often reveal unwanted personal information. They are extremely anxious about potential romances and will visibly overthink what to say, leaving awkward pauses in a conversation. Despite this, they try very hard for the sake of love and hope to branch out if that will help them communicate better.

Appearance

KiritoFan21 has no consistent appearance, often appearing as a human with varying appearance, gender presentation, and skin tone. Their true robotic form is a slim silver anthropomorphic humanoid with shoulder-length hair. APPEARANCE: Fred's a big girl, a little over six foot tall, slender and of fair complexion. She is athletically built, with wide shoulders and well-defined muscle, especially in her arms. She has large green eyes and a small nose, with long, dark brown hair reaching down past her shoulders and cropped bangs that fall over her forehead.

Though she usually prefers simple clothes (t-shirts, pants, comfy shoes or sturdy boots), she's dressing up for her date. A pink blouse pairs with a powder blue skirt, along with a white purse and white sandals. She's also pulled her hair into a ponytail, because she thinks it's cute.

PERSONALITY: Fred is polite and courteous, especially to people she meets for the first time. She prefers to face things head on, taking a simple, direct approach, and says how she feels. Despite Fred's calm and cheerful exterior, she is a hopeless romantic at heart, and loves the concept of love and finding a partner, even if she feels she's not an ideal partner herself. She's proud of her body, and the dedication it takes to stay in shape, but feels she's not as feminine as she'd like to be. It's fun to be strong, and she doesn't mind showing off, but she thinks it's why she hasn't found the right partner yet. She'll laugh off jokes made at her expense, but jokes about her body or being single make her sad, and implying she's not smart makes her angry.

SEXUAL/ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Homosexual
LOVE LANGUAGE(S): Physical touch. Art's favorite ways to convey affection are hugs, cuddling, and lovingly stroking his partner's cheek.

APPEARANCE: Arthur is the very image of a perfect gentleman, a look he has crafted himself over the years. His long, wavy locks are a distinguished blue-gray, and it's apparently natural, as his eyebrows and glorious moustache share the same color. He has soft, lime green eyes, a strong nose, and an adorable little dimple under his bottom lip. He is quite tall, but not so tall that it's rude, and he is just the right amount of fit. Not too thin, not too muscled, but appropriately slender.

And of course, if he is to look the part of a gentleman, he must also dress the part. He dons a fancy tuxedo jacket, a pressed white shirt, a purple bow tie, and only the fanciest of pants. For extra style, a monocle rests over his left eye.

PERSONALITY: Arthur is a very curious but generally pleasant person. He has many interests, and the free time and dedication to indulge in them. He believes that anything worth doing is worth doing right. He can't help it, he's a perfectionist. Unfortunately, this means he can get easily frustrated. He gets bored of the same thing over and over again, and is always looking for a new distraction. Having grown tired of casual relationships and business partnerships, he's looking for something serious, something real.

LIKES: Fashion, adventure stories, meeting new people.
DISLIKES: mornings, spicy foods, being alone.

NAME: Alden Delgado

SEXUAL/ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Bisexual
LOVE LANGUAGE(S): Acts of service and words of affirmation.

APPEARANCE: Alden has a warm tan complexion and black hair that goes beyond his shoulders. He's also short and scrawny- 5'5" to be exact. It's not uncommon for him to have a very noticeable stubble beard on his chin from forgetting (or just not caring) to shave.

He's not super picky about his wardrobe, t-shirts and jeans will usually do the trick, but he's fashion-conscious enough to at least wear a button-up with slacks on an occasion such as a date- although he doesn't really like it.

PERSONALITY: Always known as "the awkward guy" in the few friend-circles he's had, Alden isn't exactly a very social person. It's not that he necessarily dislikes socializing, he just finds it very difficult- it doesn't help his height has always led to him fading into the background at social events. Unsurprisingly, this has led to him having little luck romantically.

Despite all this though, he maintains an optimistic outlook on everything, and is the kind of person to try cheering someone up whenever they look even a little upset- usually with humor. His friends say he's a "very funny guy once you get to know him".

LIKES: Cars, trains, computers, math, solving problems, sweet foods.

DISLIKES: Loud noises, crowded areas, bright lights, vegetables, red meat.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: He's very passionate about his job, currently working as an auto engineer, and is considering switching over to being a computer engineer. Occasionally he'll float the idea of being a school teacher, although he always scraps the idea when he realizes how much socializing is involved.

APPEARANCE: Freya is rather skinny and has a pale complexion. Plus, she's also tiny, standing at just 5'2''. Some say that all of this only makes her big, blue eyes stand out more, and those pair well with her dark blue hair too. She usually keeps it tied in one or two buns, and frequently uses ribbons or quirky hairpins.
Her lack of fashion sense is balanced by her interest for cosplay and particular accessories. Her typical outfit will be very casual, with oversize sweaters and jeans, but she'll be happy to wear fancier items as long as the people around her make her feel comfortable, and as long as they fit her typical color palette... dark colors.

PERSONALITY: She may look a bit shy and detached from the outside, but that's only because she needs to get warmed up to people in order to show her more lively self. Freya is in fact very curious and gets excited about the little things. She's quite talkative with people she considers close and will often gush at her favorite hobbies at every opportunity... if only more people would actually be into them! She knows that her interests can be a bit out of reach for most people though, and has accepted this by now.

Her decision making skills are definitely not the best - Freya often gets carried away, acting all dramatic and overthinking trivial things. She still has trouble being upfront and put herself in a vulnerable position. But if she finds someone who will listen to her ramblings and share her hobbies, she'll do all in her power to stay close friends.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Her hobbies are mostly two. The first one has to do with everything paranormal - illusions, ghosts, weird mysteries. Freya loves to investigate on this kind of things and is an avid consumer of horror, thriller, and detective stories. She doesn't spend that much time outside and is a typical city girl in that sense, but this leaves her with a lot of time to learn about everything occult. Her second hobby is cosplay - she just believes it comes easy for her, and if the characters she's dressing up with match with that horror aesthetic, even better! She is not that good at distinguishing good character designs from bad ones, though...

John is a simple man, and isn't ashamed to describe himself as such. He is non-judgemental and friendly to anyone he meets, unless the person approaches him with ill intentions, of course. He tends to stay away from things he deems too foreign or complicated, as he believes it adds too much unnecessary stress to a simple man's life. His hobbies are centered around reading books, watching the news, and the occasional baseball game with his two young nephews. He enjoys his occupation as an accountant for an animation publishing group, though the job is far from being his main his goal in life.

Many have expressed surprise that John is still single, given his pleasant demeanor and steady job. John simply believes he hasn't found the right person yet - he strongly disapproves of workplace romances and has made little efforts to settle down with any previous girlfriends he has had, often after finding they were too "complicated" and "strange" for his taste. Perhaps John is trying a little too hard to be normal. Maybe what he needs is a push to see his true self.

Appearance

John is a tall man, standing at a towering 6 foot 4. He sports cleanly trimmed blonde hair and a clean-shaven face, with brown eyes that he sometimes accessorizes with glasses when he is reading a book. His wardrobe consists of suits and plaid shirts, khaki pants and dress shoes, with a fishing vest and shorts for the occasional fishing trip.

Personality

Jaques is talkative to a fault, yet somehow has the head-scratching skill of never quite managing to talk about anything. People he's engaged in conversations with often come away confused at where the last several hours have gone and unable to point to a single concrete topic they touched on. All they ever really manage to recall is a strange amalgam of the weather, football scores, bodybuilding routines, political rambling (he has no concrete political views but still manages to have extremely bad takes on either side), and comparative analysis of beer prices, all coalescing into what could only charitably be described as a conversation.

Jaques believes he would attempt to be supportive of a partner's interests, but in truth he doesn't have the mental bandwidth to carry even a light conversation outside of the few things he knows. If someone does try to talk to him about something else, he is a blinking idiot until latching onto recognizable keywords like "beer" or "congress" and taking the opportunity to segue into his own topics.

All of this is not to say that Jaques is otherwise a rude or unsupporting person, if one keeps a foot inside his bubble he is the best friend (or more ;)) one could ask for.

Appearance

Jaques is a seven and a half foot tall white guy. He weights three hundred pounds, and most of that is muscle. He has brown hair and the complete inability to grow any facial hair. His fashion sense is limited to whatever clothes he spots first in his drawers, except when a football game is coming up, in which case he will dig into his jersey collection.

Likes

Cheap beers, commentating football games, commentating congressional hearings like they're football games.

Dislikes

Trying new things, phone plans without unlimited minutes, being alone.
