So I searched but didn't see any particular threads focused on the Nintendo 3DS... In any case, I came across this wonderful piece of news today:

    https://www.wiinintendo.net/2010/09...-launch-details-revealed-at-1-am-est-tonight/

Aside from the many features of the 3DS being unveiled, I am particularly interested in the Virtual Console aspect. GBA GB & GBC games (as well as certain 'Classic Games') now rendered in freaking 3D! :cer_boogie: Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and/or Emerald Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow Versions come to mind especially! :)
The main downer is that this feature might completely kill the chance for 3DS Ruby/Sapphire remakes... :cer_cry: I'm still holding out hope, though... :rambo:

Originally I was hoping for an additional GBA slot in the design, but the 3DS Virtual Console might be enough to compensate for the absence of such a slot... The negative aspect is that my Emerald and FireRed carts could be rendered almost pointless if they get released on the 3DS-Virtual Console...

So is anyone else excited for the 3DS Virtual Console that was announced? Any particular games you want released on the Virtual Console?

Also, do you think the DPPtHGSS Pal Park feature might be able to connect to "rereleases" of RSE/FRLG? Could BW be able to connect to said GBA RBGY/GSC Pokemon rereleases in the near future? Discuss! :D

EDIT: On a side-note, I'm quite disappointed that the red version of the 3DS won't be available at launch! (only Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue have been said to be available at first) The red version was the one color scheme that had me hyped from the start! :\ :pink_cry:

You mean to tell me I just got LG and R/S/E off ebay and now they're doing it on the 3DS!? Ah well. I probably won't get mine until august for my birthday. I'm trying to save my money, so I figure that'll make a good birthday present from my parents (hopefully we won't still be super tight on money then) and then they should probably have more colours.
I'm really excited for Orcarina of Time. I actually don't think I ever got to play it and have only recently discovered LoZ. So that's pretty cool for me. There'll be heaps more games no doubt that I'll go crazy for.

All these new features... new games. Ahhh this is going to be good. Hopefully they still remake the hoenn games. I love hoenn...

Actually, as much as I would like for this to be true, Nintendo hasn't announce the Game Boy Advanced for the 3DS Virtual Console. Only GB and GBC games, sorry.

Hmm...well, that's a lesson in why one shouldn't rely on just one news source. :nervous: Thanks for the notification. I double-checked the official Nintendo of Japan site, and there was no mention of GBA games at all; just GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and Classic Games for now. :disappoin So maybe GBA games might pop up on the 3DS Virtual Console in the near future...

Well, at least 3DS remakes of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire Versions are back in the running! :cer_boogie: Still, the announcement is great. Though adding GBA games would help those who were unable to get the actual carts...

Anyway, instead, it looks like 3DS Virtual Console releases of the original Pokemon Red, Blue/Green, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal Versions may be in order, where we'll revisit Kanto/Johto once again! :D Though some people might have gotten sick of Kanto if they received a double dose of it from FR/LG and HG/SS...

I'd be very surprised if these games didn't show up again, considering that they're among the best-selling games for GB/GBC. I can understand GSC being left off since we just had HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions released for DS, but you never know with Nintendo! I'm wondering whether BW or the Gen V third version will possess the capacity to connect to such games, though...

Aside from possible Pokemon rereleases, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Kirby, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Tetris rereleases have me excited as well!

if they put pokemon on, i wonder if they will make it so that you can trade and battle other virtual console pokemon games. If they can manage to do that through the wireless, that would be awesome.
it would also be awesome if they had gb and gbc pokemon games on the 3ds, and then also releasing pokemon stadium on the wii, which can connect to the 3ds virtual console games.

well turns out my pokemon silver has finally died on me. so hopefully they'll put gsc up.

GBC games in 3D seems sorta tacky to me. I'd probably play it with it turned off. I never liked playing GB on the GBC. GB games better be in B&W and not given a randomly applied palette like when you play on a GBC or original GBA.

So.... is all content played on the 3DS given the 3D treatment? Is it just dependent on the slider? Can I play Pokemon Black & White in 3D? :O

Hmm... it does seem a bit tacky. Some of us just might want to play games in their old 2D versions. But that's what the slider is for, I guess.

Also, Triforce, regular DS games won't be given 3D treatment on the 3DS. The new games have special coding to make use of the 3D (part of the new SDK) that the DS SDK doesn't have. But that's why they have third versions, I guess.

If I remember correctly there were little cheat code-type button combos you could use when turning a GBC and/or GBA on to manually select a palette for Game Boy games. But meh.

The games will still have to have code for the 3D effects, or maybe have the 3DS read graphics layers from game itself, but that could get messy. So maybe Black and White will get the 3D, this close to release, but not something like Mario 64 DS.

I thought I saw somewhere that 3D ports are listed separately from the rest of the 3DS Virtual Console, but I don't feel like verifying right now. -3-

    I been ninja'd! AppleFreak...

This has enlighted my day ! lol.
Well, I can't wait to HACX ViRTUAL CpNSOLE LOLOLOLL buy those and start playing. I remember when I used to play on the couch with my old DS Lite. <3

How awesome would it be if all the nutty tricks from the glitches in RBY/GSC became accessible to the current-gen Pokemon games through the VC?
Mews, shiny Dittos and flying Rhydons for everyone!

If Pokémon games are being released on it, then I hope that there will be an alternate method do evolve all those Pokémon that require trading!

I wonder how preforming glitches on R/B/G/Y might affect the console, though...

Oh gosh...it'll be the revenge of glitch Pokemon! Missingno. and 'M rising from the depths of Cinnabar's coast once again! :D

I have a feeling that Nintendo/Game Freak might specifically remove said glitches due to their notoriety and potentially gamebreaking effects (they even acknowledged the glitches officially and stated that they weren't a part of normal gameplay). But if the only thing being altered are the game's graphics, the rereleases would be awesome!
Encountering Mew and Missingno. in 3D? Yes, please! (as long as my save file data is safe, that is!)

But if the games do get rereleased and can connect with BW, all sorts of incompatibility issues could arise, ranging from TM lists to movesets to internal Pokemon data structure... Or maybe those might get tweaked a little so the enhanced 3DS versions of RBGY/GSC could still become compatible... Anyway, it would be epic if they left in the Cinnabar glitches and Glitch City in for kicks! :D

I am loving the announcement of the Virtual Handheld, I am really looking forward to been able to play Pokemon Yellow again, as well as games such as Zelda: Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Season, MGS:Ghost Babel, Super Mario Land and a lot more.

The only thing I am unhappy about is that GBA games are missing, I sold a lot of them a few years back before I moved to London, and the only GBA games I have anymore are Pokemon Fire Red, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and I would love to be able to play Zelda: Minish Cap, Golden Sun/GS:The Lost Age, Pokemon Emerald, Advance Wars, Wario Land 4, Metroid: Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga, and many more on the 3DS, so come on Nintendo, you removed the GBA slot from the console, so at least compensate us by putting them onto the Virtual Handheld.

It certainly wouldn't damage the console. Only your save data

Actually I hadn't heard about this till I saw this thread 'cause I guess I don't read up on news enough.

This is wonderful, considering we only were allowed to have Game Boys and their brethren for most of my childhood. All my real game nostalgia is in those old GB/GBC games, and a Virtual Console for them is something I've been waiting for. All the more reason that the 3DS is meant to be my second DS (after my good ol' Phat).

Considering, if I ever get a 3DS, I plan on turning the slider all the way down on everything, being able to play these games is a plus. I hope there can be Game Gear and other 3rd party handhelds on there too. In fact, the Sega Nomad was a portable Genesis, maybe if I'm we're lucky, Sonic 3 & Knuckles Genesis games will be put up too. Nintendo, you know how to milk your past. You know how to milk it well. n_n

I forgot about that! They have non-Nintendo consoles' games emulated on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console, they could do the same for non-Nintendo handhelds on the 3DS Virtual Console/Handheld! That would be freaking awesome if Sega Game Gear games (especially Sonic ones) were announced later on in the future as well, coupled with possible GBA rereleases... In 3D! :cer_boogie:
