So last night I spent about half an hour setting up my own VPN via my VPS for the heck of it, and it had me thinking: how many of you guys browse on VPNs?

    I do! :3

I use Private Internet Access; it runs about $50 a year for me and tends to provide the best spread of privacy and functionality so far. :3

Mostly I use a VPN to disrupt things like carrier snooping or traffic shaping...T-Mobile has begun to act a little bold in disregarding Net Neutrality recently and I firmly believe that at the rate I'm paying I should be allowed to do whatever I want on my connection without fear of being slowed down ridiculously.

At the moment I am using NordVPN. It's pretty good, and I got the subscription for 70% off during a promotional sale. Freedome VPN is great from when I used a trial of it, and it's probably what I'm going to switch to once my NordVPN sub has ended.

I use Gom VPN to browse the US Netflix, but soon Netflix is blocking people from doing that and I have a feeling that'll happen before I finish 30 Rock :'((((((

What is a vpn and do you recommend any? Sorry that i don't know i usually browse around via firefox (sorry google chrome lovers and i know they are a lot lol) but with private browsing window sometimes not all.

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network. Because your ISP can track what you do, what website you visit, what you download, etc. VPNs are used to hide that sort of information. Generally most VPNs will not log what you do, and if there is logging it is usually only when you connected and disconnected from it.

VPNs are also used to bypass any blocks that might be in place(Chinese internet users use a VPN to bypass the Great Firewall of China), or just access another country's netflix library.

As for recommendations I would recommend reading this: https://torrentfreak.com/anonymous-vpn-service-provider-review-2015-150228/ to find one to your liking. Or anything listed in the thread will be a good start.
