I'm not the pickiest in the world, in all honesty. There are a few that I don't like, though. Like, I'm not a particular horror movie fan. Like, at all. More specific examples include of course Twilight and, much to many people's surprise, Avatar. The former is.... while an interesting concept, not the best written piece and DEFINITELY not the most well-made of movies. The cast? I can't stand the two main characters. Or their actors as those characters. It just.... blegh. Like watching an indie college student 2nd rate production, to put it bluntly. As for Avatar, it's very weird explaining it. It was GORGEOUS. AMAZINGLY beautiful. And very well made. However, I think the plot was SOOO terribly dry and overused. SO often have I seen movies use the Pocahontas approach for plot or something similar. This is no different. I think that the ONLY thing that made that movie so popular were indeed the effects. I don't like movies that are all about effects. I like movies with SOME plot that isn't so cut and dry and predictable.
To me, in order of importance for a film to be good, is this:
1- plot
2- execution and delivery (the movie as a whole aside from effects and editing; raw acting, camera angles, lighting, etc.)
3- editing and effects
Twilight didn't have the first two, and it barely had the third until Eclipse when it had a decent director. Avatar was still missing that first one and somewhat the second one. It's very hard to explain without turning this into a massively long post, though =b
Next years movies on my list to see: Thor, Pirates 4, Transformers 3, HP7p2, Hangover 2.... way more that I can't remember right off-hand =b
