Musical animated movies are good as long as the music is good. See: all 90s Disney movies. I haven't seen Tangled or the majority of Pixar films since Finding Nemo, but from what I have seen it feels like music-heavy animated films are a dying breed and the quality of the music numbers still used is just lower on the whole.
Agreed. I think the last movie that I enjoyed with it's music would have to be Brother Bear. Phil Collins. <3

The next-most-recent 2D Disney movie I've seen after Princess and the Frog was Emperor's New Groove, so I've been out of the loop for a solid decade, heh. Ironically that's one of my favorite Disney films even though it's probably the most music-light of all the modern ones I've seen.

I'm kind of not a big fan of talking animals flicks so I haven't seen Brother Bear, but are there any particularly memorable songs in the late 90s/early 00s and onward stuff like Tarzan, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Barnyard, etc?

I've heard very good things about Emperor's New Groove but haven't been bothered to check it out for myself. It was showing at a retrospective on every Disney animated film (called the Disney 50 at the BFI), but I had to revise that day, so no animated llamas for me, unfortunately.

I loved that movie, that series they made for it too after had a pretty cool theme song too. xD; Gosh, I haven't recalled that movie in ages though, I feel nostalgic.

Like Tarzan, Brother Bear's music is composed by Phil Collins. So if you enjoyed his music in Tarzan, then I suggest you give Brother Bear a shot. They don't top 'You'll be in my Heart' or 'Two Worlds', but 'On my Way' and the other tracks during the movie are still really good. My personal favorite would have to be 'Great Spirits' by Phil Collins when it comes to the Brother Bear track.

Havent seen the Emporer's New Groove which has led to reactions like "omg why not its the best disney movie...." I guess I need to watch it sometime.

The Emperor's New Groove was unique in that they made a TV show after the fact and the show was actually also good. That's rare in TV.

K-U-Z-C-O, Kuzco, Kuzco, go go!

He's on his way to the throne, he's on the way to success! But he's got to go to school, he's got to ace that test!

Oh man good times.

Ahhh, I remember watching 'The Emperor's New School'. One of the last good cartoons on Disney, in my opinion (what does Disney even have these days in terms of Cartoons?). I think I still remember the opening as well.

Not much really. The only thing I watched was Phineas and Ferb, and I haven't sat down and watched an episode of that in months.

Oh yeaaaah. Phineas and Ferb. Basically the only good Cartoon on Disney these days, ne. I think I watched it sometime last week? When it comes to cartoons the TV has been more on Boomerang than anything lately. I don't watch TV very much these days, so it's basically Boomerang, until Wednesday in which we switch it to Criminal Minds, and then Psych.

I liked the TV series for Aladdin and The Little Mermaid when I was a kid, though you'd probably have to be my age or older to remember them. I haven't seen them for years unless they run on some dumping ground for old cartoons that I don't get with my cable.

2 years = Grandpa status. Good to know...

Wait for a few months a year my boyfriend is two years older than me ;;
