I thought he was one of the more interesting rivals. With how he gets defeated by Lance and it causes him to rethink his motives. I even thought it was funny in gen 4, where he finally sees Lance in the Dragon's Den, and Lance is just completely oblivious to his grudge. It made the rival feel more like a child with a sour attitude rather than someone who was cruel. I can't remember if it was gen 2 or 4, but in the final match he has a Crobat, meaning it evolved from happiness, showing his change.

He was supposed to be the son of Giovanni, which could have been expanded upon more. I think it was only showed in an event, unfortunately. It's an interesting detail but on the islands in Fire Red a team rocket member mentions Giovanni having a child with red hair.

I've always wondered how far he actually gets. It's shown that he's going to challenge the Elite Four and you have a battle with him in Victory Road. He then appears in Kanto so I assumed he won and received a ticket. Which would mean he defeated Lance. But after playing Gen 4, he definitely wouldn't have beaten them considering he runs out of Kanto and wants revenge again on Lance.

Another thing that I've pondered a bit is if he would be collecting Kanto badges. Which would eventually mean he would challenge Blue, which would make for an interesting conversation considering the personalites of both.

I am fond of this rival, even more after playing Gen 4.

Oh, Silver? I've always loved him. Yes, it's the red hair, don't judge me. I've always liked how he's not a friendly rival by any stretch of the imagination. He doesn't love his Pokemon, at first... but actually grows as a person. Silver learns from it after meeting Lance and losing to him horribly, which was a really good development of his character, honestly.

I like how in the generation IV games, he eventually starts walking around with the starter that he stole from the lab, and even tries returning it. I never beat Pokemon Crystal when I played it, so I don't know if that's something that is said in the original games (Silver trying to return his starter), but it was an interesting tidbit.

I really miss having a rival like this. I'm hoping Bede is kinda like Silver, but I won't hold my breath on that happening.

I wasn't never particularly interested in him since he had no backstory in G/S/C, and it wasn't until HG/SS that he got more intriguing to me. I liked his battle theme, however.

As a rival silver was the last good one, the rivals after lost their edge, which kind of lost the competition of trying to be better than your rival
