What do you hope to achieve from forums?

So do you have any goals, do you have any specific PC goals?

Do you always set your self a goal when you join a forum?

Usually the only reason I join a forum is to find out an answer to a specific question.
It's been wayyy to long to remember why I joined PC, but I do remember that I got the link out of someones signature at Kyogre's Lair....

I'm more into social networks than forums...although now, you could argue that forums these days have many similarities with social networks. THey have blogs and walls and such.

    Superb topic, Angela.

What I hope to experience from forums (or simply PC, I rarely go anywhere else) is just... a fun escape. At the time I joined PC, I was in Florida Virtual School, and I needed some interaction with people, even if it was on the net. People I could relate to, have fun with, and just enjoy good times with.

And yes, I tend to set a couple of goals when I join forums, but they vary depending on the forum. I set two primary goals for myself when I joined PC...

    • Make friends, have a blast, & make myself known~
      • I think it's safe to say I've accomplished that, but it never really ends. I really didn't want to join such a fantastic forum and just be an invisible member, I wanted to be embedded in PC, and I love it that way.
    • And leave after being active for a year.
      • I set this up because I wanted to leave when I left back for high school, but after a while, I realized I could handle both and that PC was just too much fun to leave. I mean, could you imagine if I just packed my bags and left due to this? PC's too addicting and rich to leave. Just ask Vega, a true member who preaches, and is the perfect example, of the affects of PC addiction -- just from coming right back after trying to leave, several times. XDDD
At that time, I didn't really have any other goals. There were some minor things like "get a pair" (who turned out to be Aizuke) later down the road, but I don't really set goals anymore. I kind of prefer to go with the flow these days and enjoy the craziness of this forum. XD

As with every forum I have ever joined, I join to make friends and have good discussions with other members. The friends thing is because I am very social and love to chat and share stories with new people and learning about people and ways of life I've never experienced. I've got friends from the US, Australia, Italy, France and Canada over the past 3 years I've been frequenting different forums, and I'm so pleased I met them all.

The discussions thing is mainly because I love hearing different people's ideas and opinions on different things, from the next series of Pokémon to gay rights and all the other good stuff I've found in the 'Other Chat' section, and I always give every thread a thorough read to absorb peoples ideas and try and understand them.

I also join forums to meet people who have atleast one thing in common with me but also have differant opinions.

I am also an overly social person and like to mix so these forums are pretty good

It's a forum. I'm not looking to achieve anything; I just go on forums during my leisure or when I'm bored, partake in a few discussions and make some friends. Like BeachBoy said, it's a fun escape.

Like video games. Most people play video games for fun. They have no intention of achieving something from it.

Generally, I came here to PC to simply post my fan-fictions and battle, but PC feels 'different' from the other forums I am currently a loyal member of. I don't really set any goals, I just like reading the opinions of others and finding out new information. And, like what is mentioned, it's a fun escape.

    None, really.

I came here to promote Pokemon Jupiter Version (mainly because the place where I began to promote it is much less active than here), and I come here occasionally to rack up posts and have a good debate.

I come here less that the forum mentioned above, though XD

The only thing I could possibly hope to achieve is becoming a Supporter and getting more posts. I'll eventually donate when I have the money, and I will obviously be making more posts. Other than that, there is nothing I wish to do.

Help people, most of the time it comes across as me being derogatory.

I've also been doing a lot of experiments too, nobody has realised what though. They've turned out how I expected and some are still unfolding.

I never really thought about achieving anything here, seriously. I'm just here to hang around, talk to people, post in threads and have fun. I don't need to achieve anything so long as I'm having fun. Having fun is the most important thing. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't fun, nor would anyone else.

Pretty much all of these. ^^ I like Pokemon, I also have and I see myself loving it no matter how many generations they pump out. I'm sure new ideas for the anime, video games, and franchise in general will pop up to keep my interest, even when I have kids. XD (Though by then I won't make it so blatant that I love pocket monsters, just a general interest.)

I used to admin on a roleplaying forum; a small village-type forum that only had about 50 members, of which 20-25 of whom were active roleplayers. Then in 9th grade I got out of roleplaying and got into gaming again. Even though school, sports, exercise, social events, and family keeps me busy, I enjoy PokéCommunity as an escape, a fun place to chat, debate, and laugh, and a place to meet lots of Poké-fans around the globe! It's been a great experience for me and I really wish more people would get into the forum-life. Even my mom goes on a few medical forums (since she worries about particular health problems) and last year she got addicted to an American Idol forum. XD It's funny.

My little brother has moved off of forums, though (he used to be staff on InvisionFree Skin Zone), and now he's into Live Journal. I love that PC has Visitor Messages, Blogs, Community Groups, etc. Makes the place feel cozy and like our own little town! (Hopefully our town is in Kanto. ^^)

I'm not that big of a forum person (as in, I won't join many), so I didn't have many expectations.
Mostly, I just wanted to make some friends and talk to people about Pokémon (there are hardly anyone around here that likes it). In what little time I've been here, I have definitely achieved those goals. Making friends was really easy, which surprised me. I'm also slowly getting known a little better around here, which I definitely did not expect.

I join forums to talk about stuff that no one in real life wants to talk to me about XDD Such as Pokemon. I stay because it's fun, not because I've got goals or anything.

I never really thought about having specific goals for myself. PC is the only forum and will be the only forum that I ever join. I simply fell in love with the atmosphere and all the excellent people we have here. As many other have said, it's like my own little private escape where I can talk to all of my good friends and just have fun. I've been introduced to a heck of a lot of things here and I won't soon forget all the time I've spent interacting with you awesome folks. ;D

The only reason that I joined the community was to find some Pokemon battles but that was along time ago when I've created so many profiles but now since I basicely know alot of Pokemon battles from my cousin, I'm mainly a Pokemon battler here and an advisor to anybody who needs help with a question.

I never really thought about having goals.
The reason I joined PC is I was bored and wanted to talk to people. The reason I joined a forum as opposed to texting my friends is that none of the my friends like anime. I never even talk about it outside of the internet.
So yeah. I joined PC so I could chill out and chat with people.

The only achieve that I'm still working on is to be a great member here, and get to become a common member here too. :)

Also hope to be a Mod of "Other Games" too. >.<

I'm just sort of addicted to forums. I join, but it's very rare that I become active. I guess my goal is to make friends, meet new people, learn things and take over, that sort of thing. The only reason I'm sort of active here at PC, is because the people are so nice. (:
