5th Gen What do you think the new "Dragonite" spot is going to be?

It's actually both Salamence and Metagross as they both have a BST of 600. It's the only generation to have two (three if you count Slaking and it's 670 BST) psuedolegend families, at least to my knowledge.


There are a lot of possibilities but personally I'm hoping for Dragon/Ice. =D

Mold Breaker:
If this Pokémon attacks and the target's ability would prevent the effects of the attack from taking place, or hinder the effects of the move, the ability is temporarily nullified while the attack is in progress. Abilities that prevent status such as Limber are deactivated during the attack which allows a Pokémon that has one to be affected by the status they prevent, but the ability cures the status immediately after the attack.

This would allow him to use Earthquake against levitate pokemon!



I would love for Ononokusu to be Dragon/Steel, as long as he isn't UBER. That way we got a Pseudo legendary with 2 weaknesses, beefed up stats, and Mold Breaker. He is going to be a beast!

Whoa. Hold your horses there buddy: the first stage doesn't always carry its ability all the way through.
Shed Skin -> Inner Focus
Guts -> Sandstream
Rock Head -> Intimidate
Clear Body -> Clear Body
Sand Veil -> Sand Veil (did, eventually, after a year and a half of debate, turned uber)

So, the majority don't, so we'll have to see what Ononokusu brings. Does it balance things out or go with the Tyranitar-like awesome ability at the beginning to a switch? I was somewhat stunned that it got Mold Breaker, because it's an amazing ability, but we'll have to see how the rest plays out here.

Also, guys, play nice. We're all here for simple speculation, the last thing we need is a flame war and a lock to shut everyone up, okay? Just... play nice.
 
just pointing out there's no true fighting types on the uber tier.
Wow, the game's not even out in Japan and we're already talking about the metagame, lol XD

Imagine a Dragon/Fighting pokemon - whose STAB is unresisted by anything (unless Gen V brings out a Steel/Ghost, which would be awesome on it's own).

I'd love spamming Outrages and Close Combats all the time.

EDIT: Actually, I'd love some sort of Fighting pseudo-legendary. Too many dragons, lol.

And we've only had 3/5 be dragon, its not like an epidemic or anything. D:

well really the reason dragons are deemed to be broken is because almost all dragons have really good stats and good moves such as dragon dance but the type itself isnt HUGELY broken
 
If he, say kept mold breaker, was indeed Dragon/Fighting, and had a movepool similar to the other pseudo-legends with fighting type moves added and a BST of around 600, would he get into uber?

thats hard to tell really it depends on how exploitable its weaknesses are and its movepool and where its stats are distributed. plus i dont think a lot of people thought garchomp would be an uber but it is

It's actually impossible to tell at this point. We don't know what we'll get in Gen 5, a bunch of other OU pokemon that nerf it? What if it's speed stat is horrendous? We just don't know. There are so many factors out there that have to be determined.

Garchomp was uber because it had that perfect recipe for a nasty debate: brilliant stat spread, amazing typing (that laughs at Thunder Wave, specifically), an ability to make people miss, beautiful revenge capabilities, sheer power, and a knack for always going down with some pokemon.

What if Ononokusu doesn't even get Swords Dance or a major auxiliary move? What if he's like a metagross? Void of power* stat-increasing moves? Sure, there's a good chance he'll get dragon dance, but we've got a beautiful dragon dancer already. (see Salamence) We can't be sure and throw around uber talk until we see how it's done in the metagame for some period of time.

StratusJm's got some good points, too.

haha i smiled when you said i had good points! :P

great analysis of grachomp btw

and its very likely ononokusu will get swords dence and/or dragon dance but there are several dragon dancers (gyarados, salamence) that do well in the metagame so the fact there are fragon dancers already wont negatively affect ononokusu imo

and also just to point out that metagross does get the stat booster it needs most, agility

For the mind reader dynamicpunch combo
I bet it will know Guillotine which is banned from the metagame
but I can guarentee some strong trainer in the game will use mind reader guillotine if Ononokusu learns them

oh haha sorry but in fairness metagross needs the speed boost more than the attack boost so if i had a choice between putting swords dance or agility in my metagrosses moveset i would choose agility but that is just my opinion

Anyway we have Heatran whos fire/steel
 
Well wichever it is, no new pokemon can be better than Dragonite... people please let's be serious!
