What does your school/work/whatever think of pokémon?

I'm a sophomore. No one really plays pokemon at my school. I'm pretty sure I'd get picked on if certain friends found out about me being a fanatic.

Let them think it. They're just ignorant like everyone else who has the same attitude.

This.

And at my school, well back when I was in school and pokémon was first around, it got banned for being too popular. Kids would go to detention for having cards or games at school. I'm not sure how it is now... but I thought that was a bit ridiculous.

And as for the age I am now, I know many of the people I know would not admit to still liking pokemon or playing the games. It's a "kids" thing to any adult that doesn't really know what it's about. Or, the people that do just hide it to be cool.

Back when I was in elementary, Pokemon was in its biggest craze, and eventually the school banned all things Pokemon-related, which included card trading and the like.

I swear schools just ban everything that gets popular. Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Tamagotchi, British Bulldog, German Torture...

Ok, I'll agree with that last one. Kids at my school were BRUTAL.

I work at Stix, so it is mostly Asians so its pretty popular with them. I love it.

Well, damn near everybody I know used to play it, watched the anime and had the cards, but I don't think many people do any more. Having said that, I know one guy who has Meboy on his phone and I'm pretty sure I overheard some guys in the year below talking about advance map the otherf day.

I'm forever proud of my pokemon love. I play the games and watch the show. I am often seen buying a pack of cards at the checkout counter. >_> Doesn't mean I don't get ridiculed for it, though. Someone once asked me if I borrowed my Pikachu t-shirt from my little brother!

Doesn't matter though, because if I get picked on for liking Pokemon, I just pick on them for liking Twilight. xD

Win. =D

No one cares at my school, I'll just burst out loudly, "So I was playing pokemon the other day and..." And they're all, "Wow you're cool Waffle-San." To which I reply, "you better believe it!!"
Well that's the haters reaction.
If I state I love pokemon most people talk about how they miss it or whatever and many admit to playing it too, heck there were like 5 Pikachu's two Halloweens ago, at a High School!!

Confidence!! =D People tend to come to me for Pokemon advice now. =D

When I was in elementary school, it was the most popular thing ever. The school didn't really mind, either. For recess during the winter or when it rained outside, our teacher let us play on our Gameboy Advances or even trade cards. It was the best!

Now, in high school, most people think it's immature and childish. I have a few friends who either still like it or remember it from their childhood and don't mind taking about it. I also have a ton of friends who remember the original theme song from the anime, and they sing it just to be funny. So, it's not that bad.

I was a wee one when the games first came out, and literally everyone (I mean everyone) played it or traded cards or what have you when we were young, so its not really out of the norm for my age group because its just like part of our childhood. However, it is kinda akward playing pokemon in my dorm room. :P

It might be a drama kid thing or something. But I go to a really art/drama oriented school [though I'm an exception since I'm a technology student here]. But TONS of kids here love Pokemon. It's pretty awesome cause I hear people talking about Pokemon a lot and lots of them even carry around Pokemon TCG cards in their wallets, which I found pretty cool.
I've even seen a drawing on the wall here of a self-portrait of someone with a Mewtwo and a Mudkip by them.

It's actually my brother who is the one despising Pokemon now, despite the fact that he use to be a big fan of it just a couple years ago.
I really don't get him because he keeps saying he hates it, but then when I said out loud that everyone I knew IRL was going to get SoulSilver and it wasn't good for my collecting all the Pokemon, he asked me if I would like it if he got HeartGold. Maybe he's got a sister complex or something towards me.

I've only met one adult who despised it saying it was like something from the devil. D:< I can say I really didn't get along with them that well.

A bunch of people at my high school still play it, so I'm not alone. It seems that people in my age group are gradually getting more accepting of these sort of things as time goes on, which is a good thing. From fifth to eighth Grade, though, I was afraid to even mention the word at school, though. XD

Auuugh. *'s trip down memory lane turns nightmareish* Fifth-ninth were my worst times, especially when the seventh grade came along. That's 'bout the time when I reintroduced myself to openingly liking Pokemon....

And 90% of my class was filled with Pokemon-disliking-jerks who picked on me anyway. >: I brought it on myself, auuuugh.

Yeah, anyway, my younger-years and Pokemon had a rocky road to go down. xD Makes me very glad that folks at my college really don't care if I play it!

... This suddenly all reminds me... I brought my then-newly-bought Diamond game to an art class once during the summer, and I played it during a short break we had... and the teacher of the class saw it, asked to play, and was totally fascinated by it (along with the students staring over his shoulder).

It was awesome, especially since I was the eldest student in that class. 8D *memory lane turns happy again!*

We're doing this project in my English class right now, and one part of it involves old TV shows we used to watch. Almost everyone mentioned Pokemon. One girl had the original theme song and a lot of people were singing along to it. I think the fact that almost every 90's kid watched Pokemon really helps, they can remember how awesome it was. :P

I've also seen people with Pokemon shirts and backpacks and stuff. I don't think I'd be embarrassed at all to admit to anyone at my school (or at least in my year) that I still play the games and watch the anime.

years 7-8 everyone played it in my school, but then came year 9, nobody played it apart from me and a few of my friends, by year 11 (Now) its just me that plays it on the PC in school, my mobile phone (Meboy) and my psp (gPSP).
I dont tell everyone that i play on it, but if they ask what im playing on i dont lie either, but up to know the people that have asked me think its alright, they even say its cool when they see it on my mobile phone & PSP.

Few at my college play it, but they have fond memories of R/B/Y and/or G/S/C and are mostly accepting of the fact that I still play it. Then again, at the 19-21 age, I would hope they would be beyond bullying over a simple game.

Well, last year back in my old middle school, kids loathed Pokemon.
I remember this one kid who loved Pokemon and all the boys picked on him, shame since I remember back in grade school we would bring our link cables and trade our Pokemon on the bus, trying to fill up our Pokedex's!

But I never told anyone that I liked Pokemon so I never got picked on. But I remember at the end of 8th grade, all the boys had this thing where they would go and buy some Pokemon Games like R/S and play them during math class, and when the teacher took 'em away they would yell things like 'HEY! I almost had my Pokemandex filled up! Don't erase my file because Pokeman is my LIFE!!!'
Of course they were just making fun of the series though >_>

But this year at my new high school, I have found that everyone is more accepting of Pokemon, as the other day in History Class the kids sitting next to me were arguing on how Prof. Oak got to the E4 so fast after the player beat them.... And they always seem to be talking about something videogame related though,

And not to mention on Holloween when we had our costume contest in school, a group went as Ash, Misty, Brock, Prof. Oak, Pikachu, and Blastoise and they won in the popularity contest...

And recently during my art class, I've seen the other kids at my table drawing Pokemon, one girl seems to love Cubone....

So I suppose Pokemon is pretty okay at my new school.... =/ I mean, I have a Lugia keychain on my backpack and no'ones said anything to me,

Many people on my school seem to look down on Pokemon, since it's often seen as a kinds thing. However, the few people that know I still play Pokemon are ok with it and I recently even found out that some fellow nerds also do occassionally play it (the older games, because of nostalgia). And I'm pretty sure there are more.

People at my school think Pokemon as a childish thing, something kids play or watch when they're 7-8.

I know some people that like Pokemon, but don't admit it because of criticism.

I personally take a lot of criticism because I admit I like Pokemon.
I don't care what people think.
