    i'm curious what you'll all pick

    following pokemon really changed the way i thought about the game and made me think about the Pokemon as real creatures and not just bits of code. really wish that feature was still around :c
     
    I'm still miss walking with pokemon feature, but I don't think 3DS could handle the animation
     
    Hmmm...I'd actually say the in-battle EXP bar underneath the HP bar. No, seriously, hear me out. Go back and play the first generation games (if you can stomach it) and see how utterly infuriating it is to have to constantly check each individual Pokemon to see how much EXP it needs to get to the next level. See how much time you waste doing that. It's the smallest, most trivial of things, but it makes such a huge difference to not have it there. Sometimes I actually forget Gen I didn't have it.

    New features in Pokemon have come and gone over the years, and whilst a lot of them have made a bigger impact on me, they haven't lasted, because Game Freak are a bunch of cun[? SKELETON WARRIORS ?] and keep taking them out. I love following Pokemon, day and night, upgraded Pokedex features like DexNav etc., and all that other stuff as much as anyone else, but they never last. Super Training was a thing I loved and would have said if Sun and Moon had kept it, and I'd LOVE to say Trainer Customisation but it's so painfully minimalistic and unsatisfactory that having it there actually feels like a slap in the face sometimes...and it could always get taken out with the next games anyway. All of the features I've liked have drawbacks, in that they're exclusives.

    Wi-fi changed things a lot for me, but only for Gen IV. The physical/special split made the games more interesting strategically, but has actually put me off using a lot of Pokemon or giving them certain moves - I'd love to use Sharpedo in ORAS, but teaching it Surf would be a wasted move slot, meaning I'd need a HM Slave for it, so I won't use it. I think in terms of time saved checking menus constantly, lasting effect throughout games, and just general convenience, having that little blue EXP bar changed things the most for me, and has made the games that much easier to play over the years.

    I don't wonder any more how much longer I have to wait until my Pokemon will level up; it's reassuring, having it there to tell me, so I can gauge how much more I have to do until I reach the next level. For someone who plays a lot of JRPGs that don't have anything like that, it's made a world of difference to me, especially when I haven't had the motivation to grind in a lot of Pokemon titles. "Just [x] more battles until the next level" is something I've said to myself more than once, and watching it progress is satisfying even when it's frustrating just how little it crawls up.

    So, yeah. It's the small things that make the biggest difference sometimes.
     
    mega evolution due to the huge impact it has had on the franchise as a whole. not only has it shaken up the way battles are played out, but it has also been integrated into the storylines of each game since its introduction.
     
    I find Pok?mon Amie/Refresh a great feature added to the game.

    You had barely any contact with your beforehand aside from it walking behind you (a feature I like to see back). It's almost like they're just for the battling.
    When I began playing XY, Amie was definitely my favourite feature because you could actually built a bond with your Pok?mon.
    I always enjoy the reactions that Pok?mon make, particularly the smaller, cute ones.

    Plus, it was also rewarding, as it has several benefits in battle due to the bond you develop, like more EXP, shrugging off status conditions and increased critical hit rate. It gives me more the idea you battle 'together'.
    Friendship is a big theme in Pok?mon and I like that we can have it ourselves than just watching it in the anime.

    I hope it gets expanded in future games.
    They did well in Sun & Moon, but I really dislike that getting maximum affection way too easily with the Rainbow Beans, it really takes out the meaning of the effort you put in.
     
    I'm so tempted to say Pokemon following but seeing as it's only existed in one game I'm not so sure. For Pokemon as a whole, wi-fi battling and trading made so much more possible so although it might not be my favourite feature, I'm gonna have to go with that.
     
    Wi-Fi Connection changed my life. Other than that, seasons, moving sprites (both the Gen III/IV and V kind), and Mega Evolutions, but the last one not so much in a positive way.
     
    I think the Physical/Special split and the removal of HMs were the two biggest changes for me (provided the latter becomes a regular thing going forward). Before the split, I didn't really care about any strategy for my Pokemon, as long as they hit hard, and I had passable type coverage. Now even when I'm playing casually, I'll pay more attention to movesets, and make sure my Pokemon are making the best use of their stats as they can. As for the HMs, it's something that really should've been dealt with a long time ago, and it saves us from wasting 5+ move slots out of 24 in our party just to navigate certain areas.

    The physical / special split made things so much easier for me - I had no idea how the types worked in Gen III when I started playing with Emerald, it always frustrated me how things like my Absol's Thunderbolt would be so much weaker than expected, or the significant difference in neutral damage from my Swampert's Muddy Water and Earthquake.

    Walking pok?mon lent Gen V an air of dissatisfaction due to them taking it out, although its crisp graphics kinda make up for it. Great feature but not quite a game-changer. Shout out to Eviolite in Gen V as well, even though its not a feature it really helps my enjoy some of my favourite pok?mon. I can't wait to transfer my Buizel to Gen V from my current Platinum save and not watch him get OHKO'd by almost everything (he's over 10 levels higher than Barry's Infernape yet Flare Blitz was an OHKO - even in Rain it put him in the red).
