What happens if you die?(part 1)

So, you don't believe in any god? Just so I get it straight.

Ok, it's true that I was born into a situation where I was raised into a commonly-professed faith, but after seeing so many of the other options, I truly do think this is the truth. If there were something in the Bible or the world that directly and unequivocally disproves my faith, and provides something which has no such problem, I'd likely turn from Christianity. But, until I see it in front of me, I'll hold firm to what I know.

As for Deists, why would a god do that? Simply give a cosmic shove and fade into obscurity? This seems kinda trippy to me...

Last point: This isn't about evolution or creation, really. You said that nature connecting to God didn't make sense. I was giving you something to work off of. You could also consider Nautilus shells and Fibbonacci sequence for examples I should have noted. =P I'm out for the night, and If you want to continue this, it's probably best to move to profiles. Night all.

I forget the 3 names for them, but there are 4 different beliefs in the Christian God (I think it was referring to the Christian God anyway).

1. God affects humanity all the time like a puppeter for better or for worse.
2. God makes an occasional appearance (Jesus to revelations would be the best description) and among other things, makes miracles occur, but does it in a more mysterious manner (probably the most common belief)
3. God is vengeful, he only seeks to harm us and wants us to love him so as to gain his trust etc.
4. God sets things in motion and only watches from a distance (this is what makes evolution and faith work together).

*note: I'm not 100% sure if the above is correct so don't quote me on it. XD

What does this all have to do with death, depends on the certain belief, in all 4 of those above, you could say that there could be a heaven and hell, but not always.

A child born into a faith different from yours would say the same thing. What makes your religion anymore valid than the next?

Is that not what your God does?

Sorry if that came off as disrespectful. >.>

On topic, I'm certain that when I die the elements of my body will be recycled by nature into some other organism, and that the soul/spirit are fictitious.

So, you don't believe in any god? Just so I get it straight.
Well, not in the biblical sense that you speak of, with the universe creation and whatnot.
I do sometimes believe in Spinoza's god, but that isn't here nor there, now is it?^^

But that is the thing. You can't prove a negative. But I bet most Muslims and Norse believe their religion is true, so what makes them wrong if they have the same amount of faith that you do?

There are many kinds of Deists, but the one that I stated is the most common one from my experiences. It can just be any kind of god, but just one without traits that isn't or can't be grasped by humans.

Um... sorry to be a wet blanket, but isn't this a discussion on what happens when you die? It seems to have turned into a comparison of religion. Or you guys trying to prove each other wrong. I'm not saying that there is much to say, but should we at least try to stay on topic?

I want to talk more about the shaped bird. :)

Um... yeah, so... spam much lately? :nervous:

My family and friends, and even myself personally have found internal inconsistencies in things like Islam. (wish I could recall and give examples right now...>.<) I have compared such examples to my own faith and found nothing that conflicts.

Not at all. Valid question. This is my bit about all the mathematical patterns and historical consistencies in and about the Bible. Even in the present day, there are many examples of order that wouldn't seem to be required or even considered by evolution defined as "adapting for best chances for survival".

You know, in all honesty I like this kind of thing. At least you and Luck remain civil when discussing this sort of thing. Too many people just freak out over this, even over the internet... and seriously move to profiles plz.

And, now we return to regularly posted programming. On with the Birdies!

I suppose to understand death is to understand the semantics pertaining to it (such as religion) :3 so to some extent it is inevitable.

Talking about if dying, people have said to experience out of body experiences during a near death experience. Though it has also been found that provoking a certain part of the brain (electrodes) that such a feeling occurs.

Uh, a touchy subject for me - I think too much, and when I over think, I can't sleep, and get very ill.

But regradless, I'll say.
I have no idea, none of us do, it impossible for us to know.
However, we can know that all our bodily functions, including heart and brain, physically stop.
I have three theorys. We will just be there, in total darkness, forever (Not a fan of this one, myself), or we just go, gone, that's it (Don't like this one much either)
Or, we come back as something or someone else.

I would love to belive in something like Heven or Hell, but I'm not religious, and I cant bring myslef to being so.

Reincarnation is the only thing I can bring myself to believing. xD

Here's a question, why do people believe people go to hell, or for that matter go to hell to begin with?

Among the not so original translation, it is said (in the Bible) that Satan turned from God...

Now isn't this completely impossible? Cannot God dictate whether or not he [sic] wanted a hell?

Death does seem to be an important thing for the religious... I really can't understand why...

Well, that seems to be reasonable thing for followers to focus on, as religion tends to give answers to something impossible to comprehend unless you've done it yourself... Some people from comas say they saw things, but I don't believe hardly any of them. Like at all. Except one. Maybe.

It is interesting that a set of codes for living life give so much content on when you're done.

People lead themselves to believe in whatever they may find more conforting.

->Or they're honest with themselves, not so frequent though.

The only people who really know what happens after you die are incapable of telling us because they are, well, dead.

All sorts of things could happen. I believe that something happens after you die, because the uniqueness of the individual human soul is too vast. You wouldn't just cease to be. But... I really don't know anything other than that fact. :P
Jesus reserted from the dead.

You ether go to A) Heaven or B) Hell, its has simple as that.

In response to the original question, your neurons separate far enough as to stop firing completely. This separation is due to cellular damage over time, from a combination of telomeres' chopping of DNA and oxidative damage.

However, you do get a burst of neurotransmitters that make your final moment an unusually pleasant one.

Anything beyond this is guesswork at best.

Talk about lag :\
And I find it immature and stupid to base a person on what they believe, rather than what they did. I get many Christians telling me that I'll burn because I don't believe in their magic man, and I'd get that crap from Muslims and other similar religions no matter what it is.
so no purgatory?

And FYI, there isn't any evidence of this supposed miracle outside of the Bible.
I sure do hope that you will mention Josephus as a historian recording the saving of mankind.

Hmmmm .... Officiall Parts : Go to Hell or Heaven (this is what I think ! ) , You reincernate (If this counts , may I please become a plant ?) . Funny : You get sucked up in Darjness whene you meet your BF from life , you band together again then get out of the Vacuum in Space , come over the Earth and see it as a Wasteland then live there 4evar >:-) !
