  • Imagine that for whatever reason (a hacker, ect.) took down all the major social media sites for a year (big IF).
    How would you feel?
How do you expect the world will react?
Feel free to add anything else you can think of to your posts :)

  • Personally, I wouldn't care. At all. I give less then a **** about sites like myspace and facebook. I have a FB account, but all I do is check in once a week.

Worldwide though, I think more people will go berserk over losing farmville instead of loosing facebook.

  • If you count youtube, I'd lose 90% of my entertainment, so I'd be kinda pissed, lol. I don't care about any of the others though.

  • If a hacker took it all down, then it'd probably just be temporary. So, no biggie. And if not, it wouldn't be long until someone made a new site.

  • Even when I use Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, I won't become crazy for losing them. I'll wait for the "new" social media that probably will be made ;)

  • I think it would be a good thing for me, honestly. I don't really use them, but people I know do and it's usually their way of contacting people (a good number of my friends don't live around me) so it would force them to get in touch the old fashioned way with phone calls and all that. I'd get to hear from people more often, and maybe I'd get to see them more because if they'd be deprived of the social-media-friendships they'd have more time for friendships they'd made in real life.

If Social Media was gone, the world would go crazy for a little bit. Especially the US.

  • Kids might actually have to socialize for once. At least those who over use it and forget about the real world.

A negative would be the loss of interconnectedness in terms of news and such. Social Media does allow for the spread of information at an insanely fast rate. It does have it's uses.

  • I wouldn't care because most of it sucks anyways, besides I got my PS3, phone, laptop, etc for music and games.

What happened to kids imagination these days? When I was little I had such a huge imagination, now a days kids are on FB, youtube, etc. So I would rather that happen.

  • Hey, don't say imagination is extinct.One thing I had as a kid(I'm 17 now.)was imagination.
If nothing else, I had imagination. It was my toy. Sure I'd play my GBC, but... I was the Imagination Queen.

(This is assuming that all social media sites are down for exactly one year and nothing can change that)
Lord almighty! We might have to... socialize! I must take a seat and sit down at the very thought of going outside, the very thought of seeing kids on the sidewalk PLAYING instead of taking 'sexy' photos for Facebook. There'll be the people who, recluses to the end, would just back away from the computer and play Xbox or something for a year and wait for their precious MMORPGS or Facebook or whatever, but I'm guessing the lives of majority of the people who use social media websites won't be that different. They'd be disappointed at the loss of Facebook and Twitter and whatever, yes. Angry, yes. But will it really affect them in the end? No.
Though, the loss of social media websites for one year would, as Live said, be a loss to the world of news. It's effectiveness was clearly shown during the Arab spring; what if an event of that magnitude were to happen again this year and all social media websites were down? It'd be interesting, to say the least.

This. I believe that face-to-face interaction is always preferable to online interaction but the latter is so much easier. People would, hopefully, put more effort into socialising and enjoy it more. And those who can't be bothered or otherwise don't want to socialise offline will fall behind, going from having no physical social life to having no social life at all. Either way, people who want to socialise will enjoy it more and people who don't want to... won't really be effected. Long-term I actually think it'd help people out in some ways.
