Earl had long ago saw what was happening and had sat down on a nearby hill with his newly evolved Croconaw Leonidas. While watching, he took several mental notes about the Pokemon being used and how they were being used. It was fairly interesting how they used the moves the way they did...

When the last Pokemon were sent out, however, Earl took notice of the paparazzi swarming around someone... He couldn't quite tell who it was until he finally saw her face.

"Ya... Yasumi! She survived!" thought Earl joyfully as he ran over. Leonidas, wearing a newly fitted black fedora hat, ran with Earl, until he tripped. He wasn't use to his new body yet. That wouldn't take too long though. As Earl got close, he heard Yasumi talk about some of the rather personal things that happened to her...

"Excuse me, but I think certain things shouldn't be reported. Now, why don't you pests go watch that amazingly tense battle over there?" asked Earl as he pointed over at what was soon to be the closing moments of John's and Israel's battle. Earl needed to say something to Yasumi whether the vultures were there or not.

"Yasumi, do you happen to remember me?" began Earl as he took of his hat, his long -blonde hair slightly rustled by the wind. "It's me, Earl. Earl Stevens."

Yasumi stopped, "Earl?" she said, then she turned to the Paparazzi people and said, "No, don't watch the battle, in fact I've got an idea, TAKE A HIKE!!!!" she threw a Pokeball into the air and out came Haxorus. "Hey are you threatening us?" asked one of the Vultures. "No I'm challenging you to a Pokemon battle, so what are you going to send out first?" she replied. The Paparazzi people looked at each other , "Well we don't have any Pokemon strong enough to fight that thing." "Well I'm not going let you pass unless you battle me" she said, "and I have five more Pokemon on me." "We have freedom of the press here don't think I won't sue you for everything you've got" said another Vulture. "I don't have anything to sue for" said Yasumi, "now battle me or leave." The Paparazzi knew that they weren't getting past her, and there wasn't a thing that they could do about, and they had already gotten a great story anyways so they left.

Yasumi then turned to Earl and embraced him and then let go, "Earl Stevens how long has it been?" she asked starting a conversation.

Meanwhile on the battle field Israel knew he was in trouble, he had a type disadvantage and Shadow had just launched a Shadow Ball, but Israel had something in case he had ever faced a Dark type. "Alakazam use Focus Blast" Israel ordered, Alakazam shot a ball of focused energy at Shadow, because the move was a fighting type it passed through the Shadow Ball and headed for Zoura. Shadow Ball hit Alakazam and damaged him quite a bit until Israel told him to use Recover bringing him back to full health. Israel looked to see if the Focus Blast hat hit it's mark.

John noticed Earl had just shown up. Good. Now he could get that book from him after the battle. Shadow had this one in the bag. Alakazam/Shadow stumbled back dramatically as she got hit. She giggled.
"Just kidding!" she said when the attack passed through the illusion.
"Good girl, Shadow. Mess with him all you want. But be careful. We have no idea what to expect," John whispered so no one could hear him. He turned to the battle going on.
"Shadow! Use Faint Attack!" John ordered. Alakazam/Shadow charged up her fist and blasted Alakazam with the attack that John knew was inacapable of missing. He smiled. He wondered if Alakazam knew it was an illusion and not a transformation he was fighting. Shadow was inside the illusion, but how was he supposed to know where.

Yasumi then turned to Earl and embraced him and then let go, "Earl Stevens how long has it been?" she asked starting a conversation.

Earl was just fixing to saw something to the press when Yasumi handled the situation perfectly. Earl simply smiled as Leonidas looked up and stared at the Haxorus, apparently dumbfounded.

"Impressive Pokemon Yasumi," said Earl as he accepted the embrace. "I believe it has been far, FAR too long Yasumi. I... I was really worried about you... What happened? Last time I talked to you, you were still in Japan."

Earl was sure he was fixing to lose his cool, something he didn't want to do. Leonidas, being the kind of Pokemon he was, wondered what was wrong with his partner. He had never seen Earl look as if he was fixing to lose it.

"I'm sorry that I stopped writing but, my father died" said Yasumi trying to hold her composure as the memories flashed through her mind, "he was murdered by some very bad people and I wanted revenge, I didn't think you'd understand me joining the Human Alliance so I just stopped writing." Her face lit up, "I would still be in the Alliance if it wasn't for Israel, if it wasn't for him I would have never seen the error of my ways and quit that band of monkeys, I'm telling you Earl you need to meet this kid, I have never loved anyone except him since my father died, he truly is amazing."

Meanwhile in the battle Israel was in trouble, the Zoura just used Faint Attack which was super effective against Psychic types and didn't miss. The attack hit it's mark and did quite a bit of damage to Alakazam until Israel told him to use Recover. Israel knew that Zoura had to be in that illusion somewhere because he remembered Shadow hurt herself trying to make a separate illusion, but where? It wasn't possible to track it psychically because Dark types were immune to Psychic energy, and then came an idea from Israel. "Alakazam flood this whole field with psychic energy" said Israel, Alakazam's eyes glowed and then some kind of force arose from it and engulfed the field like a bubble, then it disappeared. Alakazam could track Psychic energy, and now it was everywhere except where Zoura was. Dark types repel Psychic energy which means that when Alakazam would scan the field for that energy, there would be a fox shaped hole where Zoura was and Alakazam would know exactly where it was. "Alaklazam use Focus Blast" said Israel, and Alakazam fired a focus blast exactly where Shadow was, Shadow couldn't hide any more.

"I guess you found me! Now, can you catch me!?" Shadow shouteed happily. She dropped the illusion and jumped out of the way of the Focus Blast and began running around the Alakazam.
"Shadow Ball!" John said with a smirk. Shadow began firing Shadow Balls all around Alakazam, hoping they would hit him as she ran. John knew that if they hit, they might make the next attacks she tried hurt even more. If he was going to beat Alakazam, he needed his defenses to drop enough that Recover wouldn't even matter.
"You're really slow!" Shadow shouted. She turned into Israel and wagged her finger at the Alakazam, then turned back into herself again, firing another Shadow Ball.

Israel laughed at John's foolishness as Alakazam dodged the Shadow Balls. "Alakazam has a higher speed stat than Zoura dingus" said Israel. Israel's telepathic connection with Alakazam was no longer being interfered with by Extrasensory seeing as Shadow was occupied at the moment. Israel sent this command telepathically, "Alakazam that was a pretty good strategy though I hate to admit it, so I wan't you to do what she's doing, run around her and fire Shadow balls continuously, you'll be too fast for her to dodge." Alakazam then ran continuously around Zoura firing Shadow Balls. "You underestimated me and my Alakazam moron" said Israel with a smirk, "and that's why your gonna lose."

"Dingus? What kind of an insult is that? If you won't be my equal in pokemon, at least try to come up with a good insult. I mean really, this is just embarressing," John said. Shadow leapt and rolled playfully through the hail of Shadow Balls.
"Can't hit me! Agh!" she yelped as one hit her right in the head. She went rolling and was up on her feet. She started crying profusely.
"That hurt!" she wailed. John started a little, but realized she was using Fake Tears. He didn't even flinch as he turned to Israel. Time to act like a fool to back her up.
"How could you do that! She's just a little pup!" John said, sounding very angry, but on the inside he wanted to burst out laughing. If Israel or Alakazam fell for this, they must be dumber than rocks.

Israel saw that the Zoura was crying and laughed, and then said, "Alakazam use Focus Blast." It wasn't that Israel noticed that it was a trick, it was just that he didn't care. Alakazam blasted a Focus Blast at the crying Zoura. "Well if you didn't like dingus the I'll just call you Douche" said Israel, "or I'll just call you afterbirth, or needle....." Israel stopped, he was a Christian and hadn't cursed since High School but this fool made him wan't to, it was then that Israel realized how much the words that John had said about his father had impacted him.

"Hah! Can't you come up with anything original? Shadow, let's put an end to this joke!" John said. Shadow stuck her tongue out at Alakazam as she leapt over the attack. It exploded when it hit the ground and Shadow was sent flying. She got up with a groan and faced her opponent.
"Ready Johnny!" she said seriously.
"Faint Attack!" John said. Shadow blasted Alakazam with her strongest attack, and just knew it would hurt a lot more than her first one. Fake Tears wasn't just a trick. She could trick people on her own. No, the move had the very nice effect of lowering the defenses of the one it was used on. Specifically the defenses for attacks like Faint Attack!

"Idiot" said Israel, "Fake Tears lowers a Pokemon's SPECIAL DEFENSE, and Faint Attack is a Physical attack, your attack damages Alakazam normally, now Alakazam use Recover." Alakazam's health was now full, then Israel sent a telepathic message to Alakazam, "fire Shadow Balls in every place that Shadow can dodge, this will force her to be in one spot, then use Focus Blast." Alakazam started it's attack immediately, Israel began to see John making more mistakes, this was good.

(OOC: Oops, I forgot that. Let's put an end to this, shall we? I promise, it's going to be good!)

"I know that genius. I was just setting you up for my next attack!" John said. When Alakazam used Recover, Shadow hit him with another Faint Attack. He was too busy listening to Israel to use Recover again. She took a step to the side and took a Shadow Ball to the nose, but it was weak. She then fired one of her own while Alakazam blasted the Focus Blast at her. He was good, but he wouldn't be able to dodge and fire at the same time, and he was already in the process of firing. John had this one done.
"And here I thought you'd be able to counter my strategy. I will say this, you're not that bad. But you're no match for me!" John said smugly as the Shadow Ball flew past the Focus Blast. Shadow jumped out of the way of Alakazam's attack. And if John was not wrong, and he was almost never wrong, then Alakazam would not be able to dodge her Shadow Ball and get taken out.

(OOC: I want Shadow to be at one HP when Alakazam faints like what happened with Israel's Combusken in the last battle between them.)

Alakazam jumped to dodge the Shadow Ball but was hit in the leg, Alakazam was damaged badly but Israel knew it was now or never because that Zoura wouldn't let up. "Alakazam use Focus Blast and this time hit the Zoura" Israel said telepathically. This was the last straw, it was Alakazam or Zoura.

"I... I met him," said Earl as he looked down at the ground, anger washing over his face. Leonidas' face took on one of worry as he saw his partner. He had only seen Earl angry once, and that was a bad thing.

"Did Israel happen to mention that it was ME who took you to the hospital? Did he happen to mention he was more worried about a battle against the Gentleman than you?"

Earl's calm demeanor was fading quickly while his voice cracked briefly. Here he was, talking to the girl he loved, but the same girl was telling him she loved someone else.

"Yasumi, I'm sorry," said Earl as he quickly looked back up, his face taking on a look of neutality. "I've met Israel, and I gotta say that I hate the cracker. He will never have my support, no matter what his stance is against the Human Alliance. For that matter, Lord help him if he EVER fails to protect you again."

Without waiting for a reply, Earl turned around and walked away, his face quickly becoming more twisted in anger. Leonidas followed, but he made sure to stand a few feet back. Without caring about the battle at hand, Earl walked up to Israel and picked him up by the collar.

"Cracker, you're lucky you aren't getting pummeled, so listen up. If you ever, EVER, fail to protect Yasumi again, I will kill you."

Earl quietly then placed Israel back on the ground, staring at him. If Israel wanted to man up and prove his worth, he better do it now.

((I know I know, there's a battle going on, but I feel that Earl doesn't really give a damn at the moment. If Israel chooses to do something about it, he better do it now. Plus, it can add something between John and Israel about Earl interrupting their last battle.))

(OOC: No problem. But you have to admit, I covered my mistake pretty well.)

"You'll never beat me!" Shadow growled. She blasted a powerful Shadow Ball into the Focus Blast, causing a very large explosion, that covered both pokemon. When the smoke cleared, they were both on the ground, fainted.
"Shadow?!" John yelled. Shadow giggled weakly and dropped her illusion.
"I'm ok," she mumbled, as she turned her head to look at him. John knew that nothing could be further from the truth. She was hurt, bad. But she was still standing! In a manner of speaking. She struggled to her feet, and went down again.
"Johnny? Did I get him?" she asked.
"Yeah! You toasted that worthless Alakazam! I told you Israel, you can't beat me!" John said triumphantly. Shadow gave a little victory bark, and got to her feet. She walked slowly toward John. John had no pokedex, but he didn't need one to know how close he had come to losing that battle. Shadow's quick thinking had won it for him. If she had done anything else, she would have taken the full brunt of that last attack. And she would not have been able to dodge in time. She would have fainted, and it would have been a tie, or worse, Israel could have won. He needed to train more. Next time, he wanted to blow Israel out of the water. He looked over at his opponent.
"Well, don't you have anything to say?" John said, "like how badly I beat your sorry a**! Or that I really am better than you! Nothing? Nothing at all? Fine. Be that way. I'm outta here!" John said as he walked out to grab Shadow. He noticed that Earl was attacking Israel. Oh god! Now Israel is going to whine about how Earl interfered with the battle, and he wouldn't have lost if Earl hadn't been there! That clearly was not the case, but John didn't want to deal with it! Damn hick always messing things up for him! If John didn't need Earl to help him now, he'd just ditch him and get going again!
"Earl! Leave the idiot alone! He's not worth it!" John said. He hated having to be the voice of reason.
"Earl! Come on!" Shadow wailed.
"Come on man! What would your girl over there say if she sees you beating this fool down!" John said.

"Cracker, you're lucky you aren't getting pummeled, so listen up. If you ever, EVER, fail to protect Yasumi again, I will kill you." That was what Earl had said, and that is what cost Israel the match in his eyes. Israel was fuming angry so he used a martial arts technique that he had learned from Yasumi on Earl. The technique was meant to take out bigger opponents, and it did just that, Earl would have to be freaken superman to get up from this. "Who are you calling cracker Gringo!!!!!" yelled Israel as he continuously kicked at Earl while he was on the ground. Yasumi grabbed Israel and took him down with a technique of her own, and helped Earl to his feet. She then helped Israel to his feet, "Why were you fighting?" she asked them both.

"Because they love you!" Shadow said with an odd gleam in her eye as John walked over to the group.
"Because Israel is mad that he lost, and he can't take it out on me," John said simply. To tell the truth, Shadow had the right of it. He set Shadow down and she walked over to Earl. She turned into Shadia and leaned against him.
"Relax Honky! It's going to be alright!" Shadia/Shadow said. She was using Earl's nickname for John whenever he was being a brat on Earl. Pretty fitting really. John laughed.
"Yeah man. I got him for you. He lost, didn't he?" John said easily bringing the focus away from the love triangle and back to his victory. He got to keep his friend from being an idiot and rub it in Israel's face! Perfect! Wait, when did Earl start becoming his friend?

"John I'm warning you, get out of here" said Israel. Yasumi stepped between Israel and John, "he's right John you need to leave before things get out of hand" she said. Israel was ready to explode but he didn't want to go through Yasumi to do it because he loved her and because she could beat him into hamburger meat. "John you won this time BARELY, and because Gringo here interfered, but I beat you the last time and don't forget it" said Israel ready for anything.

"Get out of here? Make me! You won last time, and I'm fine with that. I won this time because I train my pokemon well, instead of relying on cheap tricks. You clearly weren't watching the same battle I was. I was in control the whole time. And the part where you say Earl stepped in? Did you even see the last attack? There wasn't time for either of us to react properly. Shadow won this battle. It wasn't some fluke because the big guy over there got mad. It was all me and my awesome team!" John said. He was not going to let them get him to back down. If anything, they were the ones that should back off! He had just proven to them both that he was the better trainer, what more did they want?

"Anyways, I've got better things to do than waste my time talking to some loser that can't accept the fact that he got beat. Earl, I need to talk to you about something," John said. He glanced at Earl. As he had expected, Israel was being a whiny brat and making excuses for his short comings. If he was weak, then that was fine. He could always get stronger. But trying to hide that weakness with excuses? Really! John didn't do that, and he didn't like it when others did. He was perfectly willing to admit that Israel had beat him. And then he had worked to get stronger to make that fact meaningless. And if Israel did the same, John wouldn't hold it against him. Losing a battle was nothing to be ashamed of, but making excuses for it was. And that really erked John.

"John I am the better trainer, I always have been, you are nothing but a useless abusee using how your daddy beat you every night as an excuse to be a douche bag" said Israel, "I'll submit to you that under normal circumstances that attack gave no reaction time, but I was telepathically connected to Alakazam, I could have had him use Recover in a second, and those cheap tricks are called strategy." "Enough" said Yasumi, "both of you are egotistical jerks, Israel no matter how you lost this battle you still lost, deal with it. I've been told by Earl here that you left me laying on the ground and decided to focus on your battle with the Gentleman when I was injured. Now I understand that you were trying to protect me but I wonder were you focused on protecting me? Or were you focused on the battle? Did you fight Earl because of me? Or did you fight him because he cost you the battle? Besides you led me to become a Christian and aren't Christians supposed to be humble and slow to wrath?" Israel stopped, she was right. And then Yasumi turned to John, "and what Israel said about you.... I agree with it. Grow past your issues with your daddy and start treating people with respect."
