Dialga - Stopwatch
Croagunk - Kermit
Manaphy - SeaAngel
Umbreaon - BlackCat (No, I'm not racist :P)

Or I name them really random ones,

Well, I sometimes give them nicknames if I can, like I named a Buizel Tsunami, a Piplup Ice Cream, kind of like that, but I only nickname them if they're going to be important to me, if I just caught them to be HM slaves, I wouldn't nickname them.

Usually I stay with their names as is, but the 3 starter pokemon from blue and red I like to name after the pokemon from Pokemon the movie....bruteroot (bulba) shellshocker (squirt).
