...would let their 10 year old wonder the lands alone to be a master at making creatures attack each other. Let's take Pokemon in real-life context here, the fact that their are other jobs your child could do. Aren't there normal schools? Isn't 10 too young? Is Pokemon Training really a life path? I guess you earn money from battles...

    Anyway, what do you think?
I hope a thread like this doesn't exist, if it does, I think it's old, haven't seen one.

    I'm on a thread roll again :D

I would LOVE it if I could just skip school entirely and get money from battles.

My parents would probably say no way but I would anyways! XD

xD I just started rewatching Pokemon from the start yesterday and when it says their ages as 10, I went and looked up all the characters ages... Misty - 10/12, Ash -10 and Brock... who I thought was like 25? Yeah he's 15.
Misty is the most kickass 10 year old ever o.o Seriously, she has a gym!
But yeah, I would looooove to be able to make money from battling people and not have to go to school etc >.> It would be so much fun.

That's a pretty cool thought ^_^ maybe their just used to kids leaving when they're ten years old =P It's just probably part of their culture...I'd love it =D so, maybe they start off as a trainer, then as they get older, they decide on what they want to really do =p

Not necessarily. Think of Pokemon trainers/coordinators traveling like a high school sport, it's generally something for younger people to do. You can see in the games and anime that it's pretty much just the young people who are traveling around and challenging gyms/entering contests.

Anyways, like a high school sport, not many trainers/coordinators/athletes are good enough to be professional trainers/coordinators/ sports athletes. Only the best are able to do these activities as careers. In the real world, most high school athletes pursue careers that don't involve the sports they play, I suspect that the same is true for the Pokemon world. Trainers/coordinators that didn't make it to the big time carry other jobs, but may still pursue training/coordinating as a hobby. Said trainers don't necessarily travel around, because they have jobs now. I think this is what has happened to most Fishers, Hikers, etc. They once were traveling around, but weren't good enough to have careers in the area, or didn't have any intentions on doing so.

I might be looking to deep into things, but it's a thought.

ah the beauty of violence, how it can twist the minds of young children into addicted animal/pokemon abusive weapons XD
and if only pokemon were real... i would drop school any day to become a pokemon master!

heck if i were a mother, i would force my child to become a triner and 'be the very best, like no one ever was'~ dun dun duun

Nice explanation! So from like 10-16 they can work on Pokemon and see if it's fro them, and if it isn't, back to school! :D

I know! It's ridiculous. They should have at LEAST made Ash like... 18 years old. lmao
Or they could have kept him young, but not journey out so far...
...and come home every da- I DONT KNOW! Something more realistic!

What also bothers me is how he didn't attend school.
I mean wtf is up with that...? Come on now. -__-U

I think the ten-years-old thing was there just to make Red more relatable to the target demographics of the game. In actuality, Red and the other playable characters look to be in their early-to-mid teens, which seems like a much more logical starting point for an adventure all over the region. :P

I'd let my kid do it. Builds character. Don't want no child who stays at home all day playing video games.

    The irony ^.^

My problem is how most of them aren't chaperoned, there are scary people out there, very scary...

And that's problem with this whole thread. It's not realistic. Trying to make something ficitional realistic only dooms it to look even less realistic then it already was.

I'm thinking the Pokemon world is something like this:

You go to school untill you're ten, with normal classes and Pokemon as a required class like science. Then, when you're ten you can choose to get a Pokemon but don't have to. At ten you can decide to go on the gym challenge, do contests, etc. and go on a journey or decide to stay in school to persue other jobs (non Pokemon related; real world jobs) and don't have to take the course on Pokemon. Then, when you turn a certain age you go different paths. Some become proffesional trainers (Gym Leaders, Fronteir Brains, E4, Champions) and others start normal jobs, and others go into different business (such as creating products for Pokemon ie. Devon Corp, etc, or just normal jobs using Pokemon). So basically, Pokemon would be a required subject untill age ten in school then you can choose to go on a journey or continue school. This way, the journey is basically not something you do all your life, just for a couple of years then you go seperate ways.

I agree. I don't take Pokemon realistically, and that's the way I like it. *Things are different in the world of Pokemon*.

I'ts like taking Teen Titans realistically ^.^

I think you are implying something.

And in Poke World, there is no scary people. The most dangerous crime gangs have crappy Pokemon.

I love how everyone keeps referring to the Pokemon world like our world.

Because you can really travel between two cities in ten minutes.

Well, sure you can, as long as you have a Magnet Pass. ;)

Pfffft. You can fly to the other side of the region in about 4-5 seconds.

My theory... in the Pokemon world mental growth happens much faster than in the real world. So the Pokemon World Humans go through the teenage mental years in about two, 8-9. Then they become adults (at ten) and go on with their lives. Some become Pokemon trainers, others do regular jobs.
