I picked Piplup as my first. Diamond is my first pokemon game and I didn't really know much when I started so I based it on cuteness. I got lucky and got a female too so I bred it and traded the babies for a turtwig and a chimchar.

Chimchar, since there weren't too many good fire types this time around.
 
Ha ha I kinda cheated and used my bf's diamond to get all three starters...
I used chimchar and piplup and got them to final forms.
I'd have to say that Empoleon is much better than infernape
 
I chose a Turtwig! :)

Even before getting my Pokemon Pearl, I already decided to choose turtwig as my starter. And it was really strong, it was able to handle some strong opponents. I could've been one of the best starters if it was just fast.
 
Chimchar, because of it being a monkey and can spit fire outta its mouth.
 
Turtwig. My Torterra is awesome. Plus, I just like Turtwig.
 
Well, although I got both versions together, I started them at different times.
I went through Pearl first, choosing Piplup. Mainly because I thought it was better looking than the other two ;)
He certainly proved to be a reliable starter when he evolved into Empoleon..

And after a week or two I started Diamond, this time choosing Turtwig. I don't like Chimchar or it's evolutions, so I doubt i'll ever choose it should I ever play through again :l

But I wouldn't mind trading an egg over and starting with a Beldum ;P
 
I started off with piplup, then i got the chimchar and turtwig as the game progresses.. I chose piplup as my starter because I thought the evolution of it looks the most normal. Because Infernape looked like a ripoff or Blaziken and Torterra just looked weird because it has a tree on its back... Its just my opinion.
 
I started with piplup becoz I usually get the water starter.
 
i chose chimchar and not regretting my decision yet. (;

i do wish i could've started out with all 3, but oh well. chimchar, to me, is like another blaziken for me. :P (& i loved blaziken, especially the fire/fighting type)

water and steel doesn't really work out for me.
 
I picked piplip because i usaily pick water but later i got all three because off friends :)

Actually, I just thought it was the only one which didn't look like it had passed through the digestive tract of some large, violently flatulent beast, but I digress...
