What time was the "pinnacle" of Pokémon for you?

When was the pinnacle of pokemon? I'd say Gen 2 were the definitive Pokemon games, building on the original and adding even more to love about the franchise from the pokemon, the atmosphere of johto, and the mechanics it brought like breeding, happiness, and baby pokemon. I also enjoy Stadium 2's minigames.

When was I most into pokemon? Gen 4. I was barely alive during gen 2 so I didn't exactly get to experience gen 2 at its peak. The sequels however became my favorite games in the franchise.

I agree with what people said about Gen 3 through Gen 4 on this thread, and I just want to add that Pokemon felt more magical around that time. All the flagship Legendaries were some cool deities which went hard in the playground, but the BIG thing for me personally was that collecting Pokemon actually meant something back then! GTS definitely wasn't common where I was, so I felt like the coolest kid on the block having caught around 400 out of the 493 available in DPPt through pure willpower and bargaining with the other kids (I almost lost my mind when a friend lent me Emerald and Fire Red!).

I still very much enjoy Pokemon these days, but I think all Pokemon being easily available and Mythicals not even having mysterious side quests/events anymore took a bit of the magic away for me.

There never was. My pinnacle of Pokémon was basically just me being a kid and having lower standards.

All Pokémon games had their issues, and it's really hard for me to go back to past titles (if not impossible, depending on the gen). Despite the older games having some things they might have done better, there is stuff, QoL, and ways of doing certain things from the modern games that I miss, and situations where I can't help but asking myself how was my old self ok with that.

It's hard for me to say. I don't know if there was a "pinnacle," but I think it's just a franchise you either love or hate.
I kind of got out of Pokémon after Gold and Silver but I got back into it. I would say I'm still in the "love" category.
