What would you be like as a Gym Leader?

If you were capable of becoming your own Gym Leader in the Pokemon games, what would you be like?

What would your name be? (Would you go with a pun?)
What type would you specialize in?
What would you gym be like? (Would there be any gimmicks?)
What would you badge look like? (What would it be called?)
What kind of role would you play in the storyline?
What order do you think you'd be encountered in?

For me... I'd probably be a Water-type gym leader and I'd use crustaceans; Clawitzer, Crawdaunt, Kingler, and Kabutops. Not sure what my name would be, maybe Crayton. My gym would be an old wooden ship that wrecked on the side of the island long, long before. The people who got stranded would have formed a community on the island, which would have started the town that eventually turned the ship into a gym. The gym itself would be full of weak floorboards that would give out if you stepped on them, dropping you to the lower deck or washing you up at the entrance. My role in the story would probably be something involving the villain team trying to do something to the island, but my story would be isolated to the island itself. My badge would be called the Shuffle Badge and would look like a crab claw.

I would love to be a gym leader! My name would be... unimportant. But I would specialize in Dark-types, and I'd use a balanced team (so I can cover my weaknesses). So things like Crawdaunt, Krookodile, Umbreon, etc. Or, I would use Ghost-types. That would be another type I'd like. I'm not really sure what my gym would be like. Maybe an old, dark mansion that challengers must make their way through? Choosing a badge is a bit impossible without knowing how it would fit in with the rest of the badges in the region. And my story would probably be a bit sidequest-y in how it connected with the rest of the game.

I love the idea of the old mansion gym. I really like when gyms are something -other- than just a standard "gym" building, though it's... actually kind of rare when that happens.

Any idea what Ghost types you'd use if it was a Ghost gym? I'm guessing things like Golurk, Jellicent, Chandelure, etc? Just anything with unique secondary typings? Or would you use specific favorites?

Yes, I would use Ghost types with a large range of typings. The only one that would be pure Ghost would be Mismagius. Other than that I'd probably throw in Gengar, Chandelure, Drifblim and Golurk. Jellicent if I wanted a bulkier team.

Hm... If I were a gym leader, I'd specialize in fairy types, and my name would be Roseli of course ^-^ My team would be Xerneas Gardevoir, Azumarill, and Dedenne. My gym puzzle would probably be something like... Hmm... Certain gym trainers have fragments of a mask-shaped lock on the door to my gym leader room. Some trainers don't have pieces though so battling them would be pointless :3 I'm so creative My role in the story would involve me being disguised as a weak trainer with the villain team having stolen my Pokemon, when really its a rare Fairy Type that the villain team was also after so I was trying to capture it first. The trainer classes in the gym would be Fairy Tale girls and Hex Maniacs. My badge would be way more creative than Valerie's (its literally just called the fairy badge I mean come on)... My badge would be called the Deception badge, and it would be shaped like a drama mask.

    Mmm... Fantastic topic!;)

What would your name be? Michel
What type would you specialize in? Flying
What would your gym be like? Set in a cathedral-like structure, you have to navigate through 3-4 maze-like floors (1/2 gym trainers each) where you have to go up and down and up and down the stairs (hahaha) and the Pokemon will be a little different from what you would normally expect (Scyther, Aerodactyl, Crobat, Skarmory, Salamence, Drifblim, Emolga, Talonflame) so it is more like flying as a part-typing. Then you reach the top spire with gothic gargoyles and an amazing view of the city and you'll face my team (Dragonite, Altaria, Gyarados).^^
    What would you badge look like? Spiral badge, looks like the gothic tower in Sleeping Beauty. {XD}
What kind of role would you play in the storyline?/What order do you think you'd be encountered in? 7th/8th badge, after getting information from me (because my information network through my flying Pokemon is vast, just like the internet ;) ), you'll go on to find the version mascot for the game and face off the villainous team's leader (woo-hoo). I hand you the Spiral Badge, and Air Slash (new TM) and from now on you can use the HM move Waterfall outside of battles.

I believe I had a similar topic in the Water-type Club around a year or two ago. xD

I would like a Water-type Gym! Probably like a huge toilet and the players need to flush themselves in order to reach the next room. xD

    Or something playful like Skyla's Gym, while mine involving hot waters and nasty mud. {XD}

My badge would be Splash Badge. :)

What would your name be? (Would you go with a pun?)
    Cylice
What type would you specialize in?
    Ice/Water
What would you gym be like? (Would there be any gimmicks?)

    • It have ice floors that would crack resulting restart if didn't solve the puzzle just right
    • Big snowball blocking the way like in Candice's gym where the player must slide through to break the snow and create a path
    • Rotation mechanic in Wolfric's gym where push a button to navigate the 2/3 part of the gym
    • Sliding ice floors
What would you badge look like? (What would it be called?)
    Christmas Tree

What kind of role would you play in the storyline?
So the professor informs the player to talk to the 6th city gym leader about finding a miracle cure for dangy fever because bad teams makes bad soup which makes people sick.

What order do you think you'd be encountered in?
After 6th gym, player first must find the gym leader on a skiing resort somewhere (it's pretty hard to locate, good luck) and the receive the TM Avalanche as a reward

I think I would specialize myself in the psychic type, trying to cover weaknesses a bit by Pokémon as Girafarig (against ghost) and Gallade (against dark). As psychic can be pretty strong I think I'd be seen as one of the final three Gyms. My involvement in the story can be telling something about the ancient Pokémon and legends that covered the region (directly in preparation for the box legendary encounter if I'm the last Gym Leader).

I would totally be a Dark type leader. I love Dark types and we have no current gyms of that type. I think my badge design would be that of a moon. I would love to be one of the later leaders so I could have a stronger team. I would have:

    Umbreon
    Honchcrow
    Houndoom
    Weavile
    Sableye (maybe Mega?)

As for storyline, I really don't know. I'd like to be one of the leaders you see throughout the game.

What would your name be? (Would you go with a pun?) My name would be Kusagari (the protagonist from Red Steel 2 for the Wii and one of my all time favorite games) but I would be known to the player as their older brother and they call me Brandon. I would look like this but instead of the holsters for the guns, there would be the six Pokeballs lining my waist.

    Spoiler:

What type would you specialize in? I would Specialize in the Steel Type.

What would you gym be like? (Would there be any gimmicks?) The Gym would be set up like a Samurai's Dojo with 4-5 floors and each floor has 1-2 Trainers that you have to beat to progress up to me. To ascend each floor the player must defeat the Trainers and then get part of the code that they must enter onto the PC in the center of each floor. After entering the code in, the massive gears would rotate their platforms and allow the player to go up or down. The battle with me would be a Double Battle and I would have the following Pokemon: Steelix, Aggron (Mega), Bastiodon, Aegislash, Magnezone and Ferrothorn.

What would you badge look like? (What would it be called?)My badge would resemble a forge and in the background there would be a couple of small swords. It would be called the Honour Badge (Code of Honour for Samurai's). I would give the player Gyro Ball and then after they leave the Gym I would also give them Swords Dance.

What kind of role would you play in the storyline? I would tell the player some backstory about the Box Legendary and how my town/city was affected by its awakening and what happened in the past. I am also going to be the older brother of the player that gets mentioned from time to time throughout the story.

What order do you think you'd be encountered in? I would be the final Gym Leader and give the player access to use the HM Waterfall.

Mine, might be somewhat of a tricky one. First of all, the theme I'd choose for my gym would be Mystery/Mirrage and as such, the player is introduced into it in probably the most unexpected way possible.

Imagine, you play the game, do all the things you normally do, up untill you receive the 8th Badge. After that, you head straight to Victory Road, but suddenly a hugh storm would come up, leaving you uncounscious. As you wake up, you find yourself on an island, surrounded by hugh waterfalls. You can't climb those, as you're still lacking HM Waterfall.

Now, trapped on that island, you soon realize that the whole island is nothing but a hugh city with all kinds of buildings, fountains, wells, waterfalls and a lot more, all covered in a mysterious soothing blue dye. You'd even find that there are still people living there, some of them being trainers you have to defeat, some of them being simple townspeople, who give you hints.
Beating those trainers and gathering hints, you then have to investigate the island, find more clues, unravel secret areas in wells, behind waterfalls or hidden in certain houses, leading you all over the island. Ultimately, you'd arrive in an impressive building with seemingly no entrance, or exit, besides the secret passage you used to enter it. The only way out leads to the roof of the building, where I'd already await you.

I wouldn't tell you my name, as it fits perfectly into the Mystery theme, the whole Gym was based around. Instead I'd just welcome you and start the battle right away. The battle arena would be completely surrounded by those gigantic and impressive waterfalls, that surround the island and my team of six would be completely based around Rain abuse. I'd have Pokemon like Politoed, Ludicolo, Mega Swampert, Azumarill, Starmie and Gyarados.

Defeating me would grant you the Mirrage Badge, the 9th badge, which should come completely unexpected, since even the game makes you believe that there really are just 8 gyms, so even your Badge Box would only have place for the first eight ones. You'd get the badge regardless and you'd also get HM Waterfall, which allows you to finally climb those giant waterfalls, allowing you to finally leave the island.

Leaving the island, will make it disappear; however you still are in possession of Badge and HM and are then allowed to advance the story.

    Name - Leo
    Specialist type - Psychic
What role you play in the story - Not much. I will express mild bemusement at the challenger nd laugh at the suggestion I sit in my gym all day, I have a Psychic business to run you know.
Gym Trainers - Psychics and Socialites
Gym order - 7th and somewhere out of the way.
    TM on victory - Psychic
Team - Gothitelle, Delphox, Starmie and Gardevoir
    Signature Pokemon - Gardevoir
Anything else - I am always amused at Gym Leaders dressing like their Pokemon. I may have a white suit with a red pocket to somewhat match Gardevoir.

Since Ice is my favorite type but most of my favorites are Normal, I would have to split myself into two different Gym Leaders.

    ICE
    Name: Alex
Personality: Calm and uninterested with a touch of laziness. Quiet and pretty chill.
    Rank: 6th, I guess
    Pokémon: Sneasel, Vanilluxe, Froslass
Rematch: Vanilluxe, Glaceon, Froslass, Lapras, Weavile, Avalugg
Badge: Frost Badge (looks like an ice crystal resting on a white cloud)
Gym Location: I'm not sure... maybe in an icy mountain?
Gym Tricks: Maybe a maze of mirrors... Or something involving giant ice cream scoops (in which case the Gym would be in a giant refrigerator). xD
Role: Probably nothing more than usual. Gives player a TM for a new move called Ice Floor (lowers the accuracy of Physical Attacks used by non-Ice Pokémon for 3-4 turns and might make them "keep going and crash" -- has no effect on Flying or Levitating Pokémon).

    NORMAL
    Name: Xander
    Personality: Shy, likes cute things
    Rank: 2nd or 3rd
    Pokémon: Meowth, Lickitung, Dunsparce (Shiny)
Rematch: Furret, Lickitung, Girafarig, Dunsparce (Shiny), Porygon2, Persian
Badge: Maybe a circle with pink stripes with a pair of white wings at the bottom, based on Shiny Dunsparce's back.
Gym Location: Next to the Pokémon Fan Club in a small town.
Gym Tricks: A little something to represent each of my initial Pokémon. Maybe there would be lucky cat (Meowth) statues with arm levers that make "tongue" bridges appear when pulled. At the end, you would ride a Dunsparce themed cart up to me.
Role: Member of the Pokémon Fan Club and teaches the player about Contests. He's too shy to participate himself, but after the player shows him a Pokémon with maximum Condition, he builds up the courage to participate. Hereafter, you may encounter him in Master Rank Cuteness Contests using his Shiny Dunsparce, Noko.

Alex would be based more on my physical appearance while Xander would be based more on the kid inside me.

Oh... I'm really torn between a Water and a Ghost gym, so I'll just do both! I'd use my real name, personality wise I'd be really goofy and constantly break the fourth wall, and I'd be one of, if not than the last Gym Leader. Now for my teams!

With this team, I'd hand out the Scald TM, as well as the Bubble Badge, which is obviously shaped like a bubble. Now for the Ghost team!

    Ability: Pressure
    Shadow Ball
    Brick Break

    Ability: Levitate
    Shadow Ball
    Sludge Bomb
    Dazzling Gleam
    Thunderbolt

With this team, I'd hand out the the Shadow Ball TM, and the Grave Badge, shaped like a grave with some mist surrounding it.

Well, I'd be named Animus, since that's Latin for 'mind'. Of course, that means I'll be a Psychic type gym leader. My team will consist of Pokemons with high Sp. Atk or are likely to one-hit or cause red health. Starmie, Solrock, Gardevoir, Sigilyph, and Espeon as my main pokemon.

My gym would be located in a town where Psychic pokemons are in abundance, and almost everything floats or aren't bothered by gravity at all. Inside the gym, it would be operated by sliding panels(like Liza and Tate's). They lead to the gym leader, but are incomplete. In order to complete them, the player must get a book which will be provided by battling the first trainer, and runes. There are two types of runes: one changes the direction of any panel, one allows you to add a panel. The player can change the panels by using the book. Runes can be acquired by battling trainers. It should be possible to reach the gym leader without battling every trainer.

My gym badge would be called Sapience Badge and have the design of an open book. I'd give out the TM for Psyshock.

My role should be very largehuehuehue attentionho, just enough to make the players think I would be the Champion of the game. Maybe the town would be located near the Pokemon League, and just before the player approaches the town, I'll say, "Hey, you're nearly there. I can't wait to battle you!" and everything else suggesting that you're going the Victory Road. The guide shouldn't also reveal who the gym leader is, using only a codename to refer to me. Then when the sliding panels take the player to the gym leader suddenly BAM! oh wait....you're only the a gym leader...

Naturally, that would mean I'll be the 8th leader.

I created a Role-Play once with a new Pokemon region. I had five gyms that could be taken in any order and those were up for grabs to be controlled by any Role-Player (on a first-come, first serve basis, of course).
The last three, though, I designed myself and modeled them after DC's Trinity: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman (/comicbooknerd).
Wonder City (for Wonder Woman) had a Normal-type Gym with all female Pokemon
Knight City (Batman, the "Dark Knight), had a Dark-type Gym.
Kal City (For Kal-El/Superman) had a varied-type Gym; I never got around to designing his team (Role-Play didn't make that far unfortunately), but the idea was for Pokemon based off of each of Superman's powers (a fighting type for strength, an ice type for his breath, fire type for heat vision, etc.)

I feel like if I was a gym leader, it'd be a varied type like the above; maybe not with the same rationale as that, but something to really test a challenger's team's balance.
As for the gym itself, I think I would have it be a mini-dungeon. Slightly more gym trainers than average, all with full 6-Pokemon teams, at least one puzzle, and definitely the need for two or three HMs. I don't think I can think of anything else without getting disappointed that I can't make my gym a reality somehow lol
