So I was playing pokemon when I listened a little closer to the music that was playing and then I realized that my left speaker was blown. I couldn't hear my pokemon or hits on my pokemon and I was really frustrated. I then shut the game off and haven't played it much since due to lack of a left speaker... (yes I do realize I can use headphones and it'll work fine)

I got me thinking: "I wonder what random things makes people stop playing they're games?" similar to my lack of a speaker.

I have the same problem as you in my DS Lite. You can just switch your sound settings from "stereo" (that's the sound option you used, right?) to "mono." That way, you can hear the full sounds even with one of your speakers is busted.

As for me, what makes me stop playing a particular game is repetitiveness or lack of interest.

Usually I plough through games.. and "run away" instead of fighting battles because I am a save-maniac. (I will battle-save-battle-save and then rush through an area while runnin away from monsters until I get to the next savepoint.)
    >_> For this reason.. I am always extremely underlevelled.. When I have to face a boss that will take me more than an hour to level up for.. I usually just stop playing..

    >_> Usually I just try beating the boss.. and after like a 2-3 hour boss battle I can usually win. I am a miracle that way.. hahaha.. But if I can't beat it.. I usually just kinda.. stop for a while..

    >_> Which reminds me.. final fantasy X.. haha..

    I've never had a problem like your's.
I haven't had any problems with games like that, to be honest.

To make me stop playing a game, it has to be some really hard boss battle. I quit playing FFXIII when I got to the Shiva Sisters, and I didn't pick it back up til last week. I'm glad I did though, because I beat them ("obtained" rather) the first try after a two month hiatus and then I got a lot better at the game and didn't get stuck as bad as I did then. However, I haven't touch New Super Mario Bros. Wii in even longer because I just SUCK at Mario games. I got to the third castle, go to...Lenny Koopa? The one on the ball, lol. :( And I just can't beat him, I keep accidentally jumping down the hole on the side of the arena.

Rant aside! If a boss battle or level is too hard for me, or I don't feel like grinding, I will stop playing for a while. Whether I pick up the game ever again is merely up to whether or not I have an interest in beating it.

    This.
I hate it when i keep losing to some op boss. then i just rage and play a differant game.
grinding can be a major turn off for me too.

The one thing that will make me stop playing a game, is if it is bugged or glitched beyond believe.

ACII was a great example of this for me. I couldn't play the game because I kept breaking it and I didn't mean to =[

I typically don't stop playing the game intentionally, I'll just get distracted, and never return to it.

This typically occurs at a difficulty spike, though. I mean to get past that really hard boss, but I never get around to it.

What gets me to stop playing games is when you have to go through an insanely diffcult battle/trial or something extremely long and annoying. Then, when you finish, there is no save point in sight, no checkpoints etc.. AAAAAAAAAAAAAND you die and have to redo whatever it is that you just worked so hard on completing.

Losing progress. Whether you forget to save, the power dies/game freezes, etc. You don't want to do it all again.

These two are perfectly said and exactly how I feel. The top one would happen more often, but losing progress is the biggest rage inducer...

I only ever stop playing if I lose data.
Like when my Fallout 3 save files became corrupt and I lost 60 hours of progress.

    I suck at minigames so I got stuck in the first ranger game. At the part whereby you have to infiltrate into the bad guy team's base.. I think. >_>;
I kept getting caught so many times that I stopped playing for almost one month.

There's this one part in Final Fantasy X where you have you beat a flying fiend on top of your airship. The fight was quite hard, and it was really repetitive. After you beat it, you arrive at Bevelle, trying to save Yuna. But you have to go through like four groups of soldiers and machinas.

There is NO save point between the fiend and the groups of soldiers. I lost quite a lot to the fiend, and when I did win, I didn't have enough potions to last my health through the heavy-hitting machinas in the next scene. I didn't touch the game for like a week. Definitely the most frustrating part of the game. xD

Well, if I'm LPing something and I lose my save data (Thanks computers, I'm so glad you die on me so often!), I kinda avoid that hack for a while.
