what's the point of Everstone?

Umm.. dunno still a mystery... :p

If you like the Pokemon (speaking deeply)

There are some benefits of the Everstone...

*Even though they are not evolved yet, they learn moves quickly.

Take a Squirtle for example. It learns Hydro Pump at an early level when it's not a Blastoise yet.

*Or if you just like the Pokemon the way it is (Like my Pichu), you use Everstone.

My opinion, i guess! :)

P.S.

Well, because you want to keep that magikarp the way it is. NOTHING can beat one of those, and it learns flail WAY before Gyarados.

Also, I think if you give an everstone to a ditto, there is a 50% it will have the same nature. Correct me if I am wrong.

Well, I have an Ivysaur and I really, really hate Venusaur (besides, I already have one. Go GameShark! XD), so I need an Everstone to stop from pressing B all the time. XD It's easier. =P

The Everstone.. it's my most important item! I love that thing! it saves me pressing B whenever my pokemon is evolving :)

To stop a Pokemon evolving so they can learn a move or for breeding cause you can get the same nature 50% of the time if a parent is holding it ;)

So you can finally achieve your goal of wiping out the Elite four with a Magikarp of coarse/hit

and you can't do that if its a gyarados >: and it saves me from pressing B all the time

Beating the Elite 4 with a level 100 Squirtle or something would be win. eue

But yeah. Saving your sanity so you don't have to press the B button every level.
...
Except I don't really mind pressing it. lD

I had the 'pleasure' of having to cancel the evolution of my male Kirlia in Platinum eveyr time it gained a level past 30, as I wanted Gallade rather than Gardevoir, and I was nowhere near getting a Dawn Stone. Dx So yeah, it's just a small help to the admittedly rare cases where you don't want a Pokémon to evolve quite yet.

so u dont have to press b:P

so haunter wont evolve into gengar when u get it from npc, when you get SO excited thinking you'l get gengar, then you get so disapointed because now you have ANOTHER freaking haunter

UUUUGH I HATE EVERSTONES!!!!

Moved over to General Pokémon Gaming~ Covers more games than just that era.

Everstone? Love it for breeding. Otherwise, no use for it from me. XD

It's more useful when one has a boo-boo on his/her thumb and doesn't feel like pressing the B button.

Other than that, I see no use for it.

Also, I think if you give an everstone to a ditto, there is a 50% it will have the same nature. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, if:

1) The Pokemon holding the Everstone is a female
2) The Ditto is holding the Everstone/the other Pokemon is male,

there is a 50% chance that the nature of the Pokemon/Ditto will be passed down to the new baby.

And the other reason for an Everstone still remains solid: to keep Pokemon from evolving (like if you like your pet Magikarp too much, or think Psyduck is just too cute).

As others have stated, for breeding. Still not 100% sure how that works... but I know it has something to do with it.

And for that rare occasion when you actually DON'T want your Pokemon to evolve. I've only used it once. When training an Eevee that I didn't want to evolve into Umbreon or Espeon. It would've grown annoying pressing B all the time.
