As you should know there are 5 Generations of pokemon games with remakes of the first 2 generations. Well how long will they keep making new Gens. and will they keep making remakes each new gen?
For example if they make 3 more generations of pokemon Remakes would go like this:

    B/W - R/S remakes - Gen 6 - D/P remakes - Gen 7 - R/B re-remakes - Gen 8 - G/S re-remakes

So how long will this go on? Will there be to many pokemon to count? Will they remake remakes?

I think It can't go on for much longer, Can it?

If the trend continues and R/S are remade in Gen 5 and D/P in Gen 6, wouldnt Gen 7 be B/W and Gen 8 be what ever is in gen 6?

    When it stops making money.

He hit the nail on the head. As long as there's still money to be made, there's really no reason for Pokemon to just suddenly stop being made.

People will probably grow out of it eventually and at some point it'll fade and die out, but that's presumably quite a ways away in the future.

There are things that have been around for longer than Pokémon. Super Mario, anyone? ^^

Most of us thought they wouldn't be able to do anything sensible with the 5th gen, but look; the pokémon in 5th gen are very nice methinks. They can probably come up with even more... But let's hope they wait at least 5 years before that. Because we don't want another rushed game...

B/W are the first pokémon games that don't have a new Nintendo gaming device that the earlier generations didn't have, right? Something more advanced than the DS is bound to come out sooner or later, and then there might be another generation of pokémon games ^^

Maybe they'll simply make new games and focus on storyline instead of making new pokémon? That was kind of what PMD and Pokémon Ranger was about though. More of those are sure to come. I find that more likely than another generation at least. But then again... I thought so before they announced 5th gen too xD

As for the remakes, I'd like to see R/S remakes :3 Hoenn gets far too little love. It was the most epic region I've played in, and remakes in B/W graphics would be awesome. I hope they'll polish and/or enlargen the cities and landscapes then. I actually don't doubt there will be Hoenn remakes.

If it keeps making money, it'll sell. And please God no let's not remake remakes. No. More. Red/Blue. Please. Ruby/Sapphire remakes are the next step after BW's third game I think. I don't think they're stupid enough to remake a remake. DP still seems new right now, so I can see why you'd skip that in your timeline, but when it's about ten years old, then yeah, you'll think it needs a remake.

yeah uh, that's coming out next month.

It's pretty much a sure bet that the 5th Generation is going to be cross-platform, like how the 2nd Generation spanned both the Game Boy and Game Boy Colour, just on a more advanced scale. The 6th Generation is a long while away yet.

    When it stops making money.
This pretty much sums up every thing. As I say on every topic that is made about this. If the product is selling they will keep producing. Pokemon has multiple markets on top of games in the show and card game so it is not just one thing that is keeping them going. So I see it lasting for some time.

I kinda hope it'll be when they're really running out of ideas, and they'll release one last good game, even if its' region is filled with older pokémon because they had only 50 good pokémon to put in it.

That and/or when Satoshi Tajiri (the creator) is completely out of the picture...because then it's bound to decrease in quality.

Sadly, as it's being run from a business point of view, nevermind if we actually enjoy the games (that's just a side-effect), it won't go out with a bang. It'll just quietly slip away into nothingness...

The Pokémon design team is constantly being filled with new blood though, so there should easily be a constant upkeep of new designs being implemented.

I'm going to give an approximation:

    3 more generations

Hear that, GameFreak? I just approximated how much longer your little game will last. I'll be a fan till the end... but the end is going to be within my lifetime.

The games will stop when GF realizes they just can't keep selling us the same game twice. Even if it is WAYY better.

I think after Gen.3, there won't be anymore remakes because really, you can't really improve D/P/Pt/Hg/Ss that much. And small features like putting Dream World and C-Gear and stuff doesn't really fit these games.

Will you really say that in over 6 years time?

Nobody can predict everything the future will hold for the games.

Thing is, I actually wouldn't support Generation III remakes in Generation V, and I would prefer that they do that in some later generation, if at all. We certainly don't need remakes every generation from now on, and especially not remakes of remakes so soon.

They make good filler material for Game Freak to both make money and have the time to work on the next big games by producing remakes which involve less development work. It's only natural they will be seen again.

When gamefreak and nintendo stops making enought money is when it will end and the chances of that happening are very slim due to there being more and more people joining pokemon daily.

A remake of a remake? I cant really say much on that seeing how GameFreak operates on suprising people. But I guess it will stop when the game will not sell like they always do. And this is not going to happen for a long, long time.
