Where do you think the remakes will end?

Just a thought that came into my mind earlier tonight.

When do you think the remakes will end, if ever? Do you think we'll eventually see remakes of Pearl/Diamond? Or will Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire be the last remakes to come out?

Do you think we'll ever see re-remakes of games like Red/Blue?

Personally, I think that these will be the last ones. People begged for remakes of these games for years and now that we have them, I feel that the fanbase will be content. I can't see people begging for remakes of Pearl/Diamond in the same way.

Contrary to what you've said, I've already seen people being enthusiastic about Sinnoh remakes. Maybe not to the memes&hype status of RSE but DPPt were pretty loved. Thing is, they aren't yet that outdated and we're only just now getting back on the RSE train. Once we're done with this hype and ORAS have been out for a year or so, we'll probably be seeing a significant amount of Sinnoh campaigning. idk it also kind of depends on the next major tech/gen shift, doesn't it? GBA hosted a remake, DS hosted a remake, now 3DS. The next significantly different console will probably be Sinnoh's next home.

As long as people are buying, they'll be making, right?

I don't think that these will be the last remakes, not with the way that multiple companies like to milk Pokemon for all it's worth. .w.

After a time, I can see DPPt remakes being something that happens, though if I had to guess.. they'd release new versions of Red / Blue / Green first. I think that those three games, or two of them, will definitely see a 3D version at some point. We did get the Origins anime pretty recently, so it's not like RBY is forgotten.

I may beg for DP remakes in a few years...just you watch xD. Proably not to the extent I did for RS remakes though :).
I feel they'll run into some issues come Gen V remakes...as which will they remake? Both pairs? Some who liked BW didn't like B2W2 much...maybe two games in one?

I thought the remakes would end after HG/SS, because Gens 1 and 2 were the only ones not to be able to be connected to the current games (Gen 3 games still are by proxy) , as well as the only gens to be excluded from the continuity established since Gen 3, as the remakes took their place.

Now, I don't know what to think anymore :) .

To be perfectly honest, though, I think the remakes need to stop in favor of sequels, for the sake of bringing something new and different to the table instead of rehashing same old stories. Besides, starting from Gen 4, the main series games are playable on current hardware, so there's really no reasons for remaking Gen 4 and 5, unless the 3DS loses the DS compatibility some time in the future.

This is something that they should consider, as from Gen IV on they've made quite forthought storylines which could really have something else as a sequel. B2W2 worked out really well, so D2P2 would also be an awesome thing. Besides, isn't Diamond the second-best selling Pokémon game?

I think it's just that people started thinking they're just continuing on something old after Gen IV, and they didn't really feel nostalgic enough to 'miss' those games. Another point is the hardware linkage, so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't remake them until they go on to a new console.

You have a point with sequels tbh. I'd like to see some more of those being made. But that's also a difficult point because what about people who got into Pokémon recently? A sequel of something from a decade ago is going to be kinda confusing, especially if it's heavily dipped in the lore of the previous game.

True. I guess as long as they keep thinking they can make money off it, it's likely to happen.

I guess I thought DPPt remakes to be unlikely because I don't have much personal attachment to those games, but I suppose not everyone else feels the same. :P

And it would be neat to see Kanto in 3D, but at this point I feel like I've been to Kanto so many times, I don't need to go there anymore. :P

I really like the idea of seeing more sequels. I thought B2/W2 were a great continuation on B/W and think it would be really cool to see more games like that.

Strangely enough it didn't feel like B2W2 was dripping with references to BW, one could proably still play it and not know anything about BW and enjoy it (not as much as the originals, at least in terms of story).

I think D2P2 could work, especially considering Cyrus said he was going to return...that's something I want to see...or in the remakes he could appear some time after in the post game xD.

Different series, I know, but I thought "A Link Between Worlds", which was such a sequel for "A Link To The Past" worked out quite well. And, to be honest, I can't think of anything in D/P/Pt that can't be summed up in a few sentences by some NPC, just like the events of B/W were told to the protagonist of B2/W2.

I'm sure we will see more remakes, but because gen 4 had a lot more technological capabilities than gen 3, I think it's safe to say the wait will be much longer than before.

The idea of sequels is great, but as someone already mentioned, it would make it a bit difficult for people who hadn't played the originals. B2W2 worked out well because they were in the same generation and on the same system as BW.

There is always a chance that Game Freak may want to make a game set in Sinnoh (just an example) but with new characters, that isn't necessarily a sequel, but...why go through the trouble? The artists and designers would have to "redesign" the old characters to fit the updated style regardless, so why spend all that extra time and effort making an all-new cast of characters for an already-existing region? I'm not trying to imply any sort of laziness, but it is an effective time and money-saver. And it also makes the older fans happy to see their old favorite characters in a new light.

I don't see DPPT and BW remakes happening for many years since they're still too pretty recent and have yet to bring in the nostalgia that Ruby and Sapphire have npw. Though DPPT is starting to become nostalgic considering it's 7 years old. The sequel idea sounds great for DP considering how the story is asking for it.

I don't think that these will be the last remakes. Five years form now I believe that we will see remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. I mean, if the game was successful already, why not recreate it and make even more money from it? Nintendo has been doing this with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the past 10 years and it has worked well. As for Pokemon Red and Blue, it could happen but I'd rather see a remake of Diamond and Pearl first.

When remaking these games, Game Freak needs to make sure that they add on. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire I would like to see the story retold similar to the original Ruby and Sapphire, but I would like to go further than defeating Steven. I would like ot maybe enter a brand new Pokemon League, or maybe have an Orange Islands scenario or maybe even a brand new set of gyms with Pokemon from all regions being included. To go up and beyond what is expected, will really push this game over the top. The Hoenn region was already my favorite, Game Freak should go deeper into the region and reveal more about Ruby/Sapphire that we don't know. What happens to Team Magma and Aqua after we defeat Groudon/Kyogre? These are questions which they should elaborate on.

The main reason they do this is because of the fanbase, and how they would profit from remakes, I suppose. And many people are still into Platinum still, and they feel that Gen IV and Gen V are close enough to feel like a single generation. Besides, not many new features had come up in BW that made Gen IV outdated.

Let's see Firered and Leafgreen came out 8 years after Red and Green came out (1996). HeartGold and SoulSilver came out 10 years after Gold and Silver came out (1999). And OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire are coming out 12 years after Ruby and Sapphire came out (2002). Coincidentally they've added 2 years from the anniversary of the previous remakes...if they were to continue like this than it'll be 14 years after DP which puts DP remakes happening in 2020...and BW remakes in 2026...XY in 2031 or so...

The +2 thing may be expected, because Game Freak has started releasing games faster, and the games are not really that much missed right now. But I think after five years or so people would start demanding DP remakes, though. So since they were released closer to each other I think it would become +4 or +5.

I don't think ORAS will be the last remakes. While DP aren't outdated yet, it will be a few years before there will be a hype for DP remakes. I'd actually prefer DP sequels, honestly - because DP had one of the best stories imo.

ORAS isnt gonna be the last but it will serve as the milk for the fanbase since we have been hyping about Hoenn for a long time and tbh remakes are there because the current platform has some difficulties tying up to the older platforms, and still it may be possible for a GBA -> 3DS connection, it is still hard. While for the DS -> 3DS, it is still too direct for a remake so I'm thinking we still have to wait on the future platforms before we get Sinnoh remakes :(

I don't know what to think exactly. But here's what I think will end up happening.
I think eventually Nintendo will decide to reset the Pokemon series and start over. The new games will continue on from where the last games left off mechanically. But the characters, region, and Pokemon will all be new. Or at least mostly new. I don't think they'd get rid of Pikachu. And to quell the angry fans that would surely appear I think they should keep Arceus and Mew (Implying that the new games are a split time-line.)

And I don't say that just out of personal reasons. With each Pokemon game the art assets increase dramatically. There are well over 700 art assets per game. You have to make a model for every Pokemon, and their various forums, and trainers, and backgrounds. Not only that but you also need animation data for each of those too. It's a lot of work and eventually it will probably become an issue financially.

I definitely don't think ORAS will be the last remakes. As long as money is being made from them, then there will be more. At the moment I'm not too concerned over remakes of DPPt, I really just want to experience the hype and enjoy ORAS at the present moment. Right now it's time for ORAS to shine, methinks.

But yeah, I'm confident that these won't be the last remakes we'll see. ;)
