    So hi!
I live in Iceland. I've heard and seen people who don't know what it is.
And these life experiences made me curios, what people think of the country i live in. I've got a funny story actually.

Okay i was just sitting home alone playing my Xbox 360 online on cod,
then this guy join in and starts talking to me. He asked me where i'm from and i answered politely Iceland, i knew immediately he was surprised.
Then he said" how do you play a computer in Iceland don't you guys live in igloos and stuff...". I thought "What a stupid kid..." Then i answered in a cold voice "It runs on coal(ironically) " Then he was like wow cool!
Then i turned of my Xbox and went to bed.

So yeah, what do you think of Iceland?

Well. I can say Poland is nothing special comparing to Iceland. Btw. YOUR VOLCANO ERUPTION DESTROYED the air roads for nearly week, mostly in north Europe. Thanks a lot :'P

Hmm, people still think it's the Iceland residence fault? We didn't want this to happen atleast not me, and people are complaining bout what? it stopped the airports!
Well people died in iceland here and many animals. I think you should think before you speak.

Calm down, that was a joke. I did caps-lock on purpose. I know that was very hard... But hey, in my country the president with most of the government died in one plane, there was a tremendous amounts of snow, rain and floods and now we still have outrageous debts, so I understand...

Wow, I didn't know people died from that. And it's been a common problem I've seen in relation to that eruption: there was more media attention on the air traffic being impeded, as opposed to the well-being of the Icelandic people. I thought that was wrong. :/

Anyway, on the topic of Iceland, yes, I do know where it is. I learned a bit of its history, including the fact that the Vikings called it that name so people would avoid it and instead head to 'Greenland'-which actually lives up more to the name 'Ice Land.' And I think it's awesome that you guys have the first openly homosexual head of state. =D

I would like to visit there one day when I have the money. ^^

Well okay, sorry for the bad reaction( I'm just a little sensitive about that i guess)
And btw sorry for your country's loss, i saw it in the news...

But i still want people comment on my thread!

    I'm sorry too.
Anyway. Why Iceland have that strange names of towns or even volcano's. Thats hard to say it, though.

It isn't really strange, an example Eyjafjallajökull Eyja=island, Fjall=mountain, and jökull=glacier. And the volcano isn't Eyjafjallajökull that's the glacier, the volcano however is under the glacier and we don't have a name for it so.

what i think personally is that you can't pronounce it except if you are a native or have lived here for a long time.

If anyone wants i can give them a little lecture in icelandic, though i'm not good in teaching.

Aren't there an English equivalents to this names? Like in my country - the capital city is Warszawa (in English - Warsaw) or Kraków (Cracov)

I think the Icelandic names seem a little different to non-native speakers, yeah. Iceland has been more isolated that the other Scandinavian countries, so ways were less likely to change.

Before I knew how to pronouce Reykjavík correctly, I said something like "Wreck Ja Vick." XD

Hmm, not that i can think of any right now. But there are words that are similar to english
I just can't think of anything at the moment.

And yeah Wreck ja vick it is a good beginning, but hey, practice and it will come with time.

"Break ya neck, come on!" "Give it away, give it away, give it away, now!" ;'D

    I speak it "Ray-kya-vik"

Why can't you think of anything Father-nature?

Hmm... It's too expensive for me to travel there now...

I think i got one, but it's from my bro's high school english file something techy :S

Acomb (Northum York);Eikum. 'Place near the oak-trees'. From acum (akum), dative plural of ac (oak)
i don't know if you people understand it but anyway...

I must say, that Welsh names are much harder than Icelandic.

Tell me about the temperature there. How is it for whole year? Are summers warm?

Well, when the sun comes out in the it can go to 10-30°C last year we had a record of 37°C in the winter it can reach down to -20°C and that's colder then you think xD
But it mostly depends on the wind on how warm it is like there can be ice cold wind in summer, because it's wind from the north. and warm in the winter because it's from the sout east. but i live in 101 meter altitude so it's pretty random.

    I see.
And what's with the climate. How are the falls?
Hmmm I had -15 in this winter and in last 2 weeks there were 38C temperatures. My country lies on the temperate climate zone. How about you?

Well it has been changing through the years...alot. This summer, the highest was 23°C
In the last winter it was um.. i'm not sure -25°C, that's rare. the fall are mostly warm, but it's raining most of the time, i can show you picures if you like?

Yeah I would like to see it :)

Iceland is that place kind of north of the Faroe Islands, right? The one with the volcanoes and the Center of the Earth? I heard Reykjavik has awesome night life.

Also you guys have Bjork. That is flippin' awesome.

Yeah, Iceland's in between Greenland and the UK, right? And Sigur Ros and Bjork come from there (I don't personally like them but every indie kid and their dog knows who they are. And the language is really difficult, or so I've heard.
