I used to think that the desert, especially if Desukan and Meguroko (even though Nile crocodiles are in the river) are found there, would based off Egypt. There seems to be some modern buildings there, though, so yeah...

I like how some mod deleted my post and didn't even explain why and didn't even leave a deleted notice where my post was

I think your post is in another thread, lol.

the actual geography of the region is based off of NYC.
maybe some in game subtle hints towards America, but that's it.

Well as it seems, the new york area (hudson). Urbanized pokemaz ftw! xD Im kinda suprised the layout they chose for the Isshu region, I was expecting something similar to the sinnoh region, although they did manage to keep that "random showy mountain" look from the sinnoh region and transfered it to the Isshu region. I was thinking that the Isshu region might be either in Vietnam, seeing thats its close to japan. Maybe one day they can base a region off of there in the future.

I dont agree with neither shanghai nor NY theory, but i think it will be based on a place in japan like every time, they said that isshu is far away from other regions so it would match the story and the fact that there are only new pokemon there, but real world and pokemon world are probably different.
From what I see most of ppl here think it is based of NY, but I also noticed that most those ppl had stupid reason for believing in that, like:

"If there are a lot of pokemon with a red, white, or blue coloring, it's probably America"
- -.- yah, riiight

"3 on 3 battles... reminds me of 3 on 3 basketball. I would think basketball is big in NYC so maybe that's a reference?"
- I dont see how that has anything to do with 3on3 battle

"The older main characters are based on that Americans are much more protective over their children (this is true.)"
- This one was just funny

"The Subway....okay what's one of the most infamous things about NYC? The gross subways."
- Subways are more like Japan, NYC is not infamous bout that at all thats just dumb

"The trailer suggests that there are backpackers/homeless people"
- And?

"People of varying nationalities"
- This one is stupid too

"Docks"
- Oook :S didnt knw other countries have docks

"Protagonists clothes"
- Wtf?

And the most popular, geographical location... when u look at the picture on isshu and NYC, the only similarity are those 2 rivers, beside that its not similar at all, I mean check the other parts, totaly different, same goes for Shanghai.
As for the fact that you can only get to isshu form other regions by plane of boat...well Japan is an ISLAND so you cant get anywhere else except by boat or plane, so it could be everywhere.
Maybeh im wrong, but I highly doubt that gamefreak would put a region in America.

oh really :/ hmm well anyway my hunch still tells me its not in america :P
Cant w8 to see where it really is

Im not really sure what Aloe has got to do with Isshu being based on America. Musicals suggesting america, i dont think so, just cos of broadway, well if there was a pokemon film studio, would it be america just for hollywood? Football players are the only good point, but japanese ppl love to copy other cultures so it makes sense they put him in there.
And well i guess it is a good thing for them to move on, although im gonna miss Nippon :( (XD)
Btw. lol I just had to look up in a dictionary when i saw that word "ubiquitous" :P

Because, adding another race into the game suggests more racial and cultural mixing. Since the U.S. is based on that..

Not to mention, how diverse is Japan? Most people there are Japanese (race), and Japanese of origin. Here that is not the case.

Erm i said in my last poin that it isnt based on japan. Cultural mixture doesnt have anything to do with US thats just pointless, by putting a balck person thinking its america.
When pictures of Hiuin city first came out everybody most of thought it was NY, cos it actually looks like it, but the rest of the region is definitely not NYC.
If I had to pick a country it reminds me of it would be australia(which probably isnt), but i think it could be shanghai cos of the whole yin-yang story, which btw. puts up the qustion, IF they based isshu on NYC why put yin-yang mith in there, that would make no sense, so my gueass would be shanghai, but in the end it might turn out to be something made up cos that deser looks kinda weird to me :S I mean for a desert to become it should at least be separated by something form the sea, but in here its just next to it.

the geography matches almost perfectly to NYC.

there ARE mountains in new jersey. i know they are for a fact. i go there all the time.
two rivers.
the islands are located in the same spots as the ones in isshu
central park is right were the pokeball lake is in isshu
need i go on?

i didn't think so.

I stopped reading after this, because apparently you don't know anything about how the Americas were founded and what kinds of people live in the Americas.

When they announced the Starters on Pokemon Sunday the guys holding the pokemon picture posters were dressed like old style NY Paperboys.

Do you actually know anything about America or are you just spewing **** out of your ass?

Just because the US is diverse doesn't mean it has to be the US; there are other countries with diversity.

I'm assuming that's what the other person was getting at; I didn't actually read the post.
That's not the only point I made. And that's not what the person said, they said cultural diversity has nothing to do with the Americas. That's what the Americas were founded on.

Probably this.

I agree that people's reasoning is a little... out there. We are all pulling ideas out just to make fake connections to prove our point. But let's look at these pictures:

First, Hiun City:

Now New York Harbor:

Very alike, right? But to be fair here is Shanghai:

OMG! They're like total triplets! And youve probably all seen the map of new york compared to ishuu's shape, as well as shanghai's. they both match almost perfectly! But look at these photos of the cities... I think It's more like new york because a)the buldings are taller than shanghai and hiun city's buildings are pretty tall; and b) look at the building shapes--most of them have a match in hiun city, like the building with the obelisk (pyramid triangle thing) on top (see some other nyc pictures for it, its not very obvious in this one). So, it could very well be shanghai, but I'm leaning towards New York on this one. Plus, Nintendo is a lot more popular in the US than China. (I googled "Nintendo in china"). So hiun city is obviously based off of whichever city's look, but ishuu is shaped like the city's area. So the battle continues...

I♥NYC! <--Sorry, I had to. I support NYC in this battle!

Both NYC and Hiun have a building with a pyramid top (You can barely see Hiun's but it is noticeable) I do not see a pyramid top building in the Shanghai picture.

Actually I found a pyramid top in that pic, it's just hard to see...
