I haven't seen any downloads of the source code for Pokémon Essentials, or even any threads of anyone asking for it.

Is it available for download anywhere? Is the project even "open-source" (so far as the RGSS scripts go)?

I ask because I may want to try tinkering around with the scripts and refashioning game mechanics and the like.

Have you even used the starter kit before or even RPG Maker XP? Press F11 when using the kit, you'll see the scripts console...

Pokémon Essentials is a RPG Maker XP project that you can open on RPG Maker like a game that someone started before. So you have access to the scripts and can edit them, even totally remake the battle system mechanics and similar things.

I didn't see that part of the project - all I saw in the download package was a demo executable.

(I apologize if I'm missing something _really_ obvious.)

Where did you download essentials from?!
DOwnload it from the wiki. It's some sorta zip file, a rar if I remember correctly.

I downloaded it from the wiki. I didn't see any files that jumped out at me as text files, though.

Download the file from the wiki. It will be a folder called pokemon essentials and then the version or something like that. It will be an rar file, so you will have to uncompress it. Now, once you have it uncompressed, copy it onto your desktop for easiest keeping. Open up RPG Maker XP, and hit file open. Open the folder called pokemon essentials, and select the file titled game. This will open up the game. Scripts, maps, and stuff like that can be edited in RPG Maker XP. If you want to change graphics, or add new pokemon or such, open up the folder on your desktop, and use the wiki, or this website to figure out how to change things.
