Which games are worth the purchase?

    I know this is a very open ended up question but I figured I would ask it to get the feedback. I'm pretty new to pokemon (don't let my join date fool you) and I posted about that in my reintroduction post about a week ago. Through the years I've played a few of the spinoffs, such as Pokemon Snap and Hey You Pikachu (which I never really quite understood that one). I tried playing the Stadium games on the Nintendo 64 but learned that since I didn't want to link actual games to them that the point (and fun) of the series was kind of limited. I also tried the puzzle game(s) on the N64 but didn't really ever get into those much.

    So having said that, which spinoff games are good or provide enough uniqueness to justify the purchase? I realize there's dozens of them so that's why I'm trying to narrow down the series. To clarify, I'm not talking about the main games at all, just the spinoffs from the main line of games. Thanks for your feedback! Apologies if this has been asked before/elsewhere. I searched around but couldn't find a similar topic.
     
    Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky is, in my opinion, one of the best spin-off game of all time. Second place goes to Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. The stories are fun but complex enough for older players. It's also a nice change of pace, being able to play as a Pokemon.

    Just make sure you have tissues ready for these games.

    Thanks a lot guys (and girls!) for your input! I went to official pokemon site and looked at the games list and picked the ones I had a remote interest in. If anyone has any feedback (or additional feedback to add to what others have said) I'd really appreciate it.

    -So first off I noticed XD Gale of Darkness and Colosseum for the GameCube. I always had an interest in XD ever since it came out (I asked for it for Christmas when it came out but didn't get it, I had a rather large Christmas list that year...) but I've heard some pretty mediocre reviews about these gamecube games. So I'm not sure about these...

    -Next would be the series of the Mystery Dungeon games (Red and Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, Gates to Infinity, and Super). I noticed some of you mentioned these already, which is good to know! Is the whole series pretty good or just those mentioned games?

    -I'm not sure about the Ranger games (Ranger, Shadows of Almia, Guardian Signs). I'm not entirely sure about the premise of them, are they any good or would these be okay to just skip over in favor of better games?

    -Pokemon Battle Revolution seems to be something like Pokemon Stadium I think? As in, it connects to main line games and without that connection it's not really worth it?

    -The Pokemon Rumble series seems to be download only I think? Looking across some reviews it seems like kind of a "meh" series. I'm clueless about it though so I'm fully fine to admit I'm wrong if others find it really enjoyable.

    -Pokemon Conquest seems to be a stand alone game, as in there's nothing like it in the Pokemon series. Would this be worth getting? (I did notice someone here mentioned it above so I think that might be a yes).

    -They seem kind of silly but, what about the two pokepark games? Are they any fun? They might look a little childish but, I'm up for that every so often.

    And last, what's the consensus with the Pokken Tournament fighting game? I like fighting games, though I'm not a serious tournament player or anything. Did this one end up being okay?

    And to put in a little more information. This year I'm planning on buying a 3DS next month and, if a sale comes along around Thanksgiving/Christmas, a WiiU. So I'm not limited here by consoles.

    The Mystery Dungeon series and the two Gamecube games are generally regarded as the best spin-off games in the franchise. What about the main series games though? Or are you just not into the main series games?

    Pokken I'm not sure what to say exactly.....
     
    All of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are good, but if you want the best experience possible, Explorers of the Sky and Super Mystery Dungeon are the best route to go.
     
    If you play the Mystery Dungeon games, though, be sure to play them in order. Not because of the story or anything, it's just harder to go back once you're used to certain features being around no longer being there. Except skip Gates to Infinity. It really wasn't that good. And instead of playing Time and Darkness, play Sky instead. It's an updated third version.

    Another really good game is Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia (the second one). It has a really good and epic storyline and I've played it several times over. You also get recognized for all your hard work which is a plus :p Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs is also really good, but Almia is still my favorite.
     
    The Pokemon Mystery Dungeons are really the only spinoffs that pop into my head. There's Pokemon Pinball (I used to have the old Gameboy Color rumble cartridge back in the day) and Pokemon Trozei looked pretty fun, but I never got a chance to play it, but I think there is another Pokemon Puzzle game that's similar. Can anyone help me with that? Was Pokemon Ranger any good? Should there be another Pokemon Ranger?
     
    Yeah definitely any Mystery Dungeon game, the concept and the way the games are made is just brilliant. Also, if you still have the original DS, it wouldn't be a bad idea buying a Pokemon Ranger game, again the concept is unique and they were all really fun!
     
    I'm sure you'll enjoy gates to infinity or Super Mystery Dungeon, Interesting storyline, lots of playable pokemon and you can play without storyline progression

    To Nah, I didn't include the main series in this topic because I'm already getting those. I'm starting my play throughs with Fire Red right now actually and really enjoy it! I made a topic about it in the third generation forum section here.

    So you've all convinced me to go ahead with the Mystery Dungeon series, I will! They sound interesting so I'm looking forward to those. I'll get the entire series (not all at once of course, I'll make my way through them). So I'm sold on that.

    This is the first time so far I've heard the Ranger games being brought up so, it's good to know there's interest there! I'll look into that series. I think I'll take some time between tonight and tomorrow to look up each of the games I've listed and make a couple decisions through that process. More feedback is definitely welcome! I'm enjoying hearing your opinions.

    EDIT: So I started looking into the games and I came across some videos of the Mystery Dungeon series. Oh my God! Adorable! It's neat how the pokemon actually communicate with each other, this looks like a really charming series. I'll edit this post again when I get more information about the rest of the games.

    Okay everybody, I did all my research and made my decisions. Here's what I decided on getting:
    -The Mystery Dungeon series (Red and Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, Gates to Infinity, and Super)
    -The Ranger series (Ranger, Shadows of Almia, and Guardian Signs
    -The GameCube series (Colosseum, XD)
    -The Pokepark series on the Wii

    The Mystery Dungeon series looks really cute and pretty fun, so I definitely want those. The Ranger series seems kind of quirky but it looks unique and fun, I also heard some good reviews about it and on the used market it's not that expensive. The GameCube series is a kind of mixed bag but, I figure I've wanted them for years, I might as well just get it. The pokepark series looks too cute to pass up. Yes, I'm 26, yes the game was probably designed for a much younger audience, but I've still got a very big kid at heart on the inside, the graphics and animations just tugged at my heart strings too much to say no.

    So I think I'm all set for now! Thanks everybody for all your help and input! I wouldn't have known where to start if it weren't for the help.

    The good: The PMD series in general. Explorers of the Sky is my personal favourite of them all, but GTI is also good too. For EOS, it has a fairly enjoyable plot as well as a just as good gameplay as well. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it yet. SMD is my least fav of the ones I've played, but I don't hate it. So all the PMD series are worth buying, IMO.

    The meh: I've never played XD, but it looks pretty boring so you can skip it if you want. I don't think it's anywhere as good as what people give credit for, and the plot/gameplay of it looks attociously lame from what I had seen. Conq from what I remember was okay but I haven't played it in a long time, so I can't say much about that one. Rumblast isn't worth it, so you also can skip that. I can understand the praise for it, but the Rumble series is pretty lackluster imo. Speaking of which...

    The HORRIBLE: Rumble WORLD. It is hands down, my least favourite Pokemon game. Don't you dare download it. Just... WHERE do I begin with this pile of dissapointment? Lousy storyline, lousy concept, lousy everything. Maybe it's gameplay is good.....oh wait no it isn't. It's A FUCKING REHASH OF Rumblast. Once and for all, there has officially been a video game that I found to have no redeeming qualities, and no, just no NOTHING. I highly reccomend everybody to avoid Rumble World like a plague.
     
    Colosseum and XD are must haves. They're personally my favorite spin off games and if you're bored of the typical format of the main games, but want a similar experience, then I highly recommend them. They're darker (Colosseum more than XD, imo) than the main series or most other spin-offs and treat the story a bit more maturely. Great games.

    Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy is really fun too. I finally got a copy a few months ago and I've really enjoyed it so far. If you've never played the card game, it teaches you pretty well, and since it's all the old sets of cards, it's easier to grasp than how the current card game is, imo.

    It's interesting that you bring up the trading card game on the game boy, Schwann. I was considering potentially getting into the card game. I used to collect the cards way back, when they were new and everyone was collecting them. I sort of learned how to play the game a bit and might have played a round or two with my brother but that was a long, long time ago. I was considering making a topic about the card game actually...
