Why are Grass Pokemon considered the easiest to use?

This is something I have heard people say but never understood. I admit I have never played through a whole game with a grass starter but every time I did, I found myself hardly ever strong against something but weak to a lot.

Personally, my favorite is fire but I love water as well, both of which I have found to be much easier and more fun to use.

Grass Pokemon aren't all that easy to use as they are weak to 5 types and strong against 3. However maybe it's because they learn lots of status moves like Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Poisonpowder, Leech Seed and more.

Well, by region standerds let's reveiw this.

    - Disadvantage, = Standered + Advantage (Im rating by Starters, not other Pokemon)
    Spoiler:

I'll be reviewing Jhoto, (2nd part of Kanto), Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova later.

I've only used a grass starter once in my Sapphire game and I'm not really feeling it with my Sceptile at the moment -.- I always used to pick the water starter but now I'm more of a fire type gal <3

I think it seems that most people think that Grass types are instantly easier to use; but this could be because (as chaos11011 pointed out) that most of the Grass' type advantages are at earlier stages in the game. This won't help you in the long run, as you will be weaker to types that have an advantage over than you later in the game.

I hate using Grass types. Most of them learn low PP moves that aren't good for the long run and most grass TMs aren't good to have either for in-game. And like it's been said, they have 5 weaknesses. I mean, I'll use a grass type, but only if I can really spruce up that moveset. They really need a good grass type move that all grass types can learn, like a grass alternative to Flamethrower and Thunderbolt. Grassbolt or Grassthrower obvs. There might be one, but it doesn't come to mind here.

Grass pokemon, for me, are pretty much the easiest to use, especially in some gym battles like rock and water types. Even though Meganium on my team doesn't have a good moveset, Razor Leaf is sufficient for me. I consider that it's powerful attack.

As for Bulbasaur, I use it a lot, I sometimes consider it the strongest in my LG team... at first. :P

I never used Treecko or Turtwig so I can't say what I think yet.

Grass Pokemon are nowhere near easy to use strength wise, but they are easy to raise. I'm assuming that's what that saying means.. that they level faster than most Pokemon do so it makes them easier to use. The status moves that almost all of them inevitably learn makes them even easier to use, but they really are quite frail as a whole type ; so the need for status moves only rises. Their weaknesses overcome their strengths, thus making them difficult to use in battle.. unless you're very strategic and don't rely on pure strength. It really depends how you like to battle and train. Your patience level will factor with these delicate dandies in battle as well.

Overall, I don't think grass types are easy to use unless you really plan stuff out.

Forgive me if this paragraph didn't make much sense, I'm still kinda tired. :x

Grass pokemon are 'easier to use' because most of the trainers in the game are rock or ground type, with the second largest majority being the water type pokemon. So they can faint the pokemon faster, lasting longer and getting more exp for beating more pokemon I guess.

Well, they aren't necessarily easy to use.
The game just has a lot of going through the sea and caves to get to the next city.
    Also, there's always a rock/water gym.

I really don't find Grass-types all that easy to use except in Hoenn where you have all those sea routes and Swimmers. And even then Tentacool shows up often to ruin the party. I typically use Electric to handle water-types and a Water-type to handle the ground and rock Pokemon.

Only time I used a Grass-type in-game was Bellossom in Sapphire and Emerald, and even then I didn't like having to choose between the 5PP Giga Drain and self-confusing Petal Dance...

I only really considered this to be true in the first generation, in which Bulbasaur's STAB attacks were super-effective against both the first and second gym leaders. Conversely, Charmander, supposedly the hardest starter, had STAB attacks that were not-very-effective against these two leaders.

In the subsequent generations, I don't really see a pattern here at all. Especially in Black and White, where...

Im pretty sure it's bulbasaur, even the description when you click the ball said so. xD

It definitely depends on the generation... Bulbasaur was definitely easiest in Kanto, but I've always considered Cyndaquil the "easy" one and Chikorita the "difficult" one in Johto, and haven't noticed a clear pattern in Hoenn. And I agree with others' posts that Grass-types' movesets tend to be less useful outside of statuses- a "Grassbolt" really would be quite useful.

The only Grass pokemon I ever used for a long time was Sceptile. He has a lot of different move types it can learn so he was awesome for E4 and the battle frontier.

I've always found Grass types easier to raise because they level up faster. I remember playing Generation I and choosing Bulbasaur instead of Charmander once and being pleasantly surprised when I discovered Bulbasaur was leveling up faster. (That said, I never chose Bulbasaur again.)

They are harder to use, though, I think. I always have a grass Pokemon in my party. It's just one of the four types I have to have. I, to this day, don't understand why. Their movesets aren't the best, a good electric type or water type can take on their strengths just as well, and aesthetically... I don't find them appealing at all. I think one of the reasons I have to have one would be the status problems... Like how some Pokemon will get poisoned by a grass/poison type simply by using a contact attack on them. And during tougher battles, being able to put an opponent to sleep really comes in handy.

I find Grass Pokemon hard to use, but I think they're easy to train/use because they can status their opponents. Some have good bulk, like Venusaur and Celebi.
