why do you think most main series games have no father figure?

In my opinion, it's probably because the father is a salaryman who is rarely seen? Or at least, that's what I think for the gens i, ii and iv Pokemon games, as they take place in Japan. It could be true, though, that the father figure in most Pokemon games is always working, so they're rarely seen. I don't think it's some stupid bs like "there was a war" or anything.

so, i think the games try to play off the whole "Ash's father's is never around" thing from the anime and implement that into the games as sort of a gag/reference, and it just.... stuck. with the only exception being gen 3 because Norman canonically is the player's father, so there's that. but aside from that only exception, it's just kind of a reference that has stuck around since the beginning of pokemon gaming.

imo, i think that reference is getting fairly dated anyway, and i would like the opportunity for the player in pokemon games to battle their own father again like in RSE/ORAS.

Because stereotypical Japanese culture in media has mothers as stay-at-home wives and fathers as workaholics who spend more time at their desk than anywhere else. Their fathers are just always at work, and when they DO come home from the office, the kid is probably asleep.

Men don't do domestic work, and mothers don't do anything other than domestic work. If that sounds awful...well, that's culture for you. That's the way it was...or the way it still is in Japan; I'm not sure if it's quite so prominent as it used to be. I am somewhat surprised, though, that there aren't any prominent father figures in later generations. Although the stereotype of housewives and working men is also a thing of Western culture - at least in the past - so I suppose it's justified in that respect. Still...it does seem a little odd for those games not based on Japan.
