Have you ever had one of those moments? I've been using an octillery through the game and its diverse moveset has really impressed me. I have bug, psychic, ice, water moves on it and those always see me through. Never expected to find a water pokemon so useful haha.

Back in emerald I had a random Sunkern in my team while fighting kyogre.
I thought I'd let it faint but kyogre used rest then I used endeavor! easy catch!

But for DPPt, I found Banette useful with it's frisk cause it's hard to hunt for rare wild pokemon held items.
Abra, kadabra and alakazam for Natures and Ditto for breeding!!

    Sheer Cold Articuno xD
Also I think Shuckle is the best answer for this thread.

Skarmory. Back when I was a kid, I didn't understand the difference between offensive and defensive pokemon. I thought, Skarmory looks really cool, but it doesn't learn great attacks. Little did I know Skarm was one of the best defensive pokemon of the generation.

I never ecxepted a Gyarados to be so owning

Using a Gyarados in-game is too easy; you can just SPAM Dragon Dance and demolish everything in your path.

I was pleasantly suprised the first time I used a light ball on Pikachu. I didn't think it would make a huge difference back then, but it did.

On that note, I'm going to move this to general gaming since it encompasses all generations.

I was hoping you'd do that. Anyway, Bibarel has become the powerhouse of my Pearl team. No, I normally wouldn't have him on here out of personal preference; it's for a challenge. Right now, he's got Hyper Fang, Water Gun, Defense Curl, and Rollout. Everything will be replaced with HMs, but I still think he'll be a contender on my team.

Thanks hon <3 I was wondering about that~ I just put it in DPPt because... I was playing Pt lol.

And Bibarel has got to be one of THE ugliest Pokemon IN EXISTANCE. MADE SOLELY FOR HM SLAVERY. UGH. I hate it being with me all the time but with rock climb/rock smash/strength it's kind of ... necessary.

Raticate > Bibarel for hyperfang user.

Well, yeah. He's going to be the HM slave on my team, and I would prefer Raticate, but as of right now, he's kicking everyone's butt. He took Roark's team by storm. The other two members of my team couldn't do crap at that time.

Also, Unown has saved my butt on Pokemon Stadium 2 more times than I can count.

Linoone has become a Pokemon that I absolutely adore. I used to hate it until I realised how useful it was as an HM slave. It learns most of the HMs and also has Pick Up which is an awesome ability. 8)

I also use the ExtremeSpeed moveset for competitive battling. There's nothing like wiping out a whole team using Linoone.

when i first caught bibarel i was like 'wtf'
but then i found out it is a very useful hm slave and spends more time in my party than it has any right to.

The other one was Arcanine who after ten years has finally made his debut in my team in Fire Red of all things.

Girafarig, i used one recently, and found out it has a quite versatile movepool, not-too-bad stats, a decent typing, was a real powerhouse through a big part of the game... In the end still inferior to Staraptor and Clefable, but i honestly never thought Girafarig could be that useful

When I first caught a Luxray I thought it wasn't very good, but now I think it is a strong pokemon and could help you out quite alot =)

The Clefairy line. Not only does it learn a great variety of moves leveling up (Magical Leaf, Meteor Mash, etc) Wonder Guard is also an added bonus.

Muchlax w/ metronome, since all it had was metronome, tackle, & rest, I tried metronome when he was my last poke in my 2nd gym battle against gardenia, her turtwig's attack missed & muchlax used fire blast. =P
