Suggestion: www.pokecommunity.com/user/sphericalice

Okay, so I've got a suggestion. Would it be possible for user profile's to have their links changed to user/usernamehere instead, or as well as, user ids? I gather this would probably be too large a task for every user, so perhaps it could be for supporters and staff?

I would find this useful for checking if usernames are taken and VMing people etc. The former wouldn't be possible if it were for only supporters and staff, though. Idk.

Maybe I'm missing the point but wouldn't the following suffice:

https://www.pokecommunity.com/member.php?username=Spherical Ice

I agree that spheres idea is nice. But too big of a task to redo all of the thousands of members. Plus I think it's part of VBulliten, and would be a pain to change.

Though I knew about the username= thing, I would prefer if the username link was the default link over the user ID. I've been on some vBulletin communities where that's the case, so I know it's indeed possible.

Wouldn't it not be thaaat difficult? Just do a mod_rewrite so that people can type pokecommunity.com/username and be redirected to the ?username= URL.

it can be done with some SEO plugins but not really sure its worth the hassle overall.

That would be nice, considering both links work anyway.

It might be nice to SEO the whole site~

Maybe 6 hours of downtime? If you'd give a prior notice then the community would accept it.

It's nice, sure, but there's very little point in it imo. I don't know how much "hassle" it'd cause but it's just as easy for everyone to just bookmark that username link and open the bookmark when they want to search for users by username. :(

I dunno, I just don't see the point when we have a perfectly viable alternative.

I have a bit of a way around this if you use Firefox. It won't change the URL but it'll make it way easier to get to someone's profile. First of all, bookmark this link:

https://www.pokecommunity.com/member.php?username=%s

Then, go edit the bookmark's properties (open your bookmarks and right-click>properties or ctrl+i, I think). Give it a keyword (I've set mine to "pc") and save. And that's it! From then on, just put pc lightning (or whatever keyword you set) into your address bar and you'll be redirected to my profile. :3 Should work for any username, I think.

I imagine other browers have this feature hidden away. It's called custom keywords in Firefox, I believe. It's meant for use with search functions (an easy way to set one up for, say, google, is to right click the search box and choose the keyword option) but it's quite adaptable, I've found.

Oh wow, that's awesome. I'm definitely going to be using that, thanks! It even works with spaces and everything :B

Whoa that is a useful feature. It's very easy to use, I'll definitely use this a whole lot. Thanks again Erica. (:
