"So, you are a mutant too," I said, kneeling down next to the bird as I aproached. If she responded to language, than it probably wasn't a machine. "Can you speak?" I asked, not in a rude tone, actually wondering. It was rare, but there were mutants who had powers that kept them from doing simple things, such as speaking. I wasn't aware of the eavesdropper, and was considering that I might be able to show her the institute if she was a mutant...

I nodded slightly, not saying anything for now. But, that could be because I was busy re-icing my internals so I could have speaking capabilities. I could alter almost anything about me in a matter of moments, just a few seconds ago I had been totally unable to make any sound. I stabilised myself to deal with the change in my weight, then waited to hear what he wanted.

"It's been a while since I've seen a mutant who either wasn't one of us, or wasn't trying to kill us. At the Xaivier institute, I mean." I said, quietly, though I still didn't know that anyone was listening in. I knew that she could probably speak, but she might not want to. I figured that what I said might convince her into talking, though.

I almost said something, but I managed to stop myself, staying quiet as to not give anything away, though my repetive nervous shifting showed clearly that if he didn't give me a good reason for staying, I was going to leave. I was too used to being alone anyway, I had learned a long time ago that people were nothing I wanted anything to do with.

While Yi-Ling was twisting her hair nervously, waiting for David's reply, she heard the familier voice of...

"Yaaay~! Sissy got a date!"

Yi-Ling whirled around, seeking the sourse of the voice, finally deciding that it came from a tree.

"Isabelle~ What are you doing?" she said, embrassed, her face flushing red.

"Anyway, my name is... Chal." I said, I would have held out my hand, if there was another for me to shake. When I realised the form I was in. I had forgotten about my forms, I was so used to changing by now. "what do you call yourself?" I asked, thinking that this probably wasn't the best place to talk. If someone came by and saw someone talking to a bird that looked like an ice sculpture, there would be problems, I was sure of it.

" Are you sure that it's human?" I asked, finally coming out of the shadows. "Ther have been mutant animals before." I suggested. "This could just be a mutant animal. " I looked at it carefully, not sure of my own suggestion. "Sorry to have been eavesdropping, but I was curious."

"My name is Aqua. As for if I'm human or not, it's a need to know and you don't need to know." I said calmly, re-freezing my form since it had been starting to melt. The disadvantage was I could melt and evaporate. The advantage was I could just re-form and freeze again

"What difference does it make, if she is an animal, which I doubt, she's more than intelligent enough to be human." I said, not getting up to face him. In my own opinion, it would probably be better if she was an animal, then she wouldn't be targetted for as much prejudice as the rest of us. I considered becoming a dove and trying to find somewhere quiet to talk, but since she didn't know about my powers, I would probably only upset her. I now knew it was a her though, because of the voice.

ooc: You know, just because you can turn into a species doesn't mean you can speak the language. Look at beast boy. :\

ic:"Dolphins are smart enough to be human. Doesn't change the fact they're classified as animals. basically saying, you might as well be talking to the ground unless it actually understand you and turns out to be a human in disguise." I said, leaning against the wall. "I'll introduce myself to it when the time proves it to be worth the effort. In the mean time, how about figuring out if it's human or not?" I said

"Humans go under the animals classification, thank you very much." I said. I was unwilling to turn human at the moment. I moved to the grate, my external appearence starting to look a lot less solid, as I prepared to melt away and never see them again. At least, I could hope that would be what happened...

"Then I guess that makes this one human." I grinned despite myself. " Never knew an animal to talk. Sorry for previous behavior. Had to be certain first. And I am aware that people are classified as animals. They just don't think of themselves as one. Anyway. I'm Lucas." I said politely. "What an odd day this has been I've ran into four mutants in a row in the period of a few hours."

"At least, scientifically they do." I agreed, as I saw that she seemed to be melting. I didn't want to leave her, so I was already preparing to become a moth, and chase after her. Not a simple moth, but one of the poisonous species of africa that I had read about. Frankly if she was a bird, or if she got hungry in that form, I wasn't completely certain I trusted her not to try to have a snack...

I saw him preparing to change. I had come to know who he was by now. And she seemed prepared to dissolve or something and hide away. For some reason I didn't want to just lose sight of them. I had yet to even learn the name of this strange water girl's name. My hands were already growing warm. She seemed prepared to go through the grate, and I was prepared to blow it open and go after her.

"Sure... now is fine." I said, not knowing where the Robert and the others from earlier had gotten to. I was interrupted by the voice of a younger girl, startling me. When I realized it was her sister, I began to blush even harder. "What... what were you doing watching us?"

With a pout on her face, Isabelle leaped off the tree and rushed to Yi-Ling. Then, she crossed her arms and eyed the 'Catman', searching his eyes for any signs of evilness, as she liked to call it. Seeing none, her arms flung to her side and grinned at the cat-like boy.

"I had to protect Sissy," She started as she flashed him a na?ve grin, "so I followed her in any case there was trouble. Sissy's the closest I have to a family and so, I didn't want to lose her."

Breathing out a sigh, she continued, giggling afterwards. "But I guess I just wasted my time worrying since Catman doesn't look like such a bad person."

"I had to protect Sissy," She started as she flashed David a na?ve grin, "so I followed her in any case there was trouble. Sissy's the closest I have to a family and so, I didn't want to lose her."

Yi-Ling blushed, thinking about the time when she tripped... And Isabelle saw all that?

"But I guess I just wasted my time worrying since Catman doesn't look like such a bad person." she finished.

Yi-Ling smiled, Catman? that was a funny name... she thought, trying to stiffle a giggle. "Isa~ you know that I'll never leave you..." she started, smiling.

"Catman?" I mumbled softly as I reached under my hat to scratch my right ear yet again. "I have a name you know, kid, and Catman isn't it. It's David."

I looked around, and smiled. "We should go get the food, and find somewhere private to eat, if you'd like." I offered.

I dove below the grate as my ice form dissapated, then reformed only long enough to land on a concrete path along the drainage system. There, I melted again, and started reforming into a diffrent creature, this one a quadruped... I had to keep focus now, otherwise I'd have to start all over again..

A black and yellow moth, almost the size of a dove fluttered between the grate bars and down, landing near the shaping mass of water, and turning into my usual, male form. I watched curiously not interupting. I remembered how much concentration it took me to change when I had first become a mutant...
