Compared to Pt after DP, and B2W2 after BW this is nothing...we are still five months or so from breaking B2W2's record, and eight months from Pt which I think was the longest wait between previous release and announcement of a new game.

With RBY announced for VC in February, my suggestion that Z will come out in Blue's (japanese third version) 20th anniversary instead of in February is looking more likely. If so, then an announcement in January is possible, if we are getting a gap as long as XY. An OrAs sized gap will put the announcement in April. B2W2 and Platinum which had relatively short gaps between announcement and release (but damn, their announcement was a long time...which would make Z having a four month gap likely) could also mean another four month gap between reveal and release, so an October release would mean a June reveal. I don't think this fan base can take even one more month for it/them to be announced...

I'm hoping we don't have to wait until spring of next year to hear an announcement... but eh, there's nothing we can do about it except to be patient and find something else to pass the time until then.

There's something I did notice though on the Japanese website before the Direct, the one I had translated earlier. Other than that this Direct being about games releasing in the first quarter of 2016, it also mentioned that there would be another Direct next year very soon, possibly in January or February. I wish I could bring it up again so I can translate it to make sure... but yeah.

That would be hilarious if they did announce it this weekend on Pokenchi, even though I'm honestly not expecting it after today. That would send the fandom on a massive mood swing.

Just when we lost all hope, huh?

Really? I'll like to see this to make sure. Though, judging from past Directs there tends to be one in either January or February (sometimes both) much like how we usually get an end of the year Direct in November (like this one) or December, or both.
 
I'm now sure that the next game is the 7th generation included Kalos there. The next region will be combined with Kalos, and it will be in the 3DS.

That's why they revealed Zygarde's forme faster.

This is also to make a region with only the 6-7 generaion pokemon, without the 1-5 generations.

I don't quite follow... so because of no Z being announced yesterday, that means we're going to go right into Gen 7? I don't think that's very likely... if anything, that new Picross game is an indication that we are still not finished with Gen 6. IIRC, usually the transition between Generations happen between the last game of a current Generation and the first games of a new Generation, without any side-games inside that gap. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what it has seemed like. I don't remember any side-games being released between Emerald and DP, HG/SS and BW, BW2 and X/Y.

I think that Pokemon Ranger was (it even had the manaphy egg ahead of time).

I don't think the lack of an announcement means we're done with Gen VI either. OrAs came out a early compared to FrLg and Pt which came out a two years after RS and DP. E and HgSs followed shortly, now this Gen is the inverse of that. So this gap was merely delayed by OrAs's release one year after XY, instead of a gap between itself and XY.
 
Curious question because there's a whole lot about Japanese culture that I don't know... but do they have a tendency to overhype seemingly trivial things in their media? Because for the past 2-3 days, Masuda has repeatedly retweeted and tweeted about his Pokenchi appearance this weekend. And now recently, the Japanese website's Twitter has done the same thing. I don't mean to have my question come off as offensive, but I'm genuinely curious.

I'm not sure about Japanese culture as a whole, but Masuda and friends do have a tendency to overhype stuff. They hyped the Mewtwo event in Gen V, they hyped the OrAs trailer which was only a small clip.., there are likely more examples, but those are the most memorable.

I'm surprised to learn that it can't... I hope they give it that move. Also I don't think Tyrunt's line learns poison fang, they should give it to the line if so.
