How is there not a thread on this yet?

This game for the Wii U has come out/comes out today! Who has it/who is getting it?

My character has a drawn-on curly mustache and beard. This is the best game. :V

I'll be picking it up for Christmas. I was probably going to pick it up regardless of whether I had played Xenoblade Chronicles but since I have that now anyway, I might as well play it this month until I get X. I hope that running across huge landscapes isn't quite as tedious as it has been in Xenoblade Chronicles so far. I'll definitely need those data packs so that I can use fast travel frequently but I heard you need 15gb for them, which is actually ridiculous.

From the sounds of it there's a character creator but I'll probably just give him brown hair and not change anything, I'm not a fan of making silly characters, or player-created characters in general.

I don't like having them when I'd prefer it if they just make a complete solid cast of characters for me so I can watch their story unfold. Player-created characters feel like a way at trying to get me invested in a game from the start yet all they do is make me feel disconnected from it.

I'm sure the majority of people like being able to customise and create a character. I'm not one of them though.

It's kind of a mix for me, and it all depends on the execution.

I, for one, love being able to customize and create characters, but at the same time, if the narrative is character-based (especially as one would expect from the sequel to Xenoblade- or any Xeno game, for that matter), you wouldn't really expect a blank slate of a character to be the ideal role as the main character. But if we're talking something like, say, Dragon's Dogma, where you simply need a motivation and the world builds itself, I say by all means.

Oh, I should say my piece, actually. Bought the game today and I'm really enjoying it. The world's absolutely beautiful and New LA's a joy to explore. The music's an odd mix of everything. Not to say it's bad...it's more...something that needs to be experienced. I've been playing for several hours, so I'm pretty convinced that I'll be a little overpowered for the main quest.

Yeah that's true, if a game is created in such a way that the character creation is a pivotal part of the experience then that's fine. I still don't enjoy character creation but if it's implemented well then I can't knock it too much.

I'm looking forward to listening to the music in this game as I play, I love Hiroyuki Sawano music. That was pretty much the piece of information that got me interested in the first place.

Music is pretty decent - varied, certainly. Bet there's a lot more for me to here though, for this game is huge.

Quite enjoying it so far. Finally in a division and so able to explore at will. A lot of time talking to NPCs and taking some missions was had.

The battling system is certainly more involved than Xenoblade Chronicles had been.

I'm getting the special edition of this game for Christmas, but I haven't started playing the original Xenoblade yet, and it would take forever for me to beat it as quickly as possible.

What about Pokémon? You have the ability to name your trainer, and in XY, you can give them customizable outfits.

Naming a character is nothing like creating one, neither is changing their clothing. I didn't delve very deeply into the XY clothing stuff anyway. I changed his clothes maybe one or two times over the course of the game. You can't compare changing a preset character into different outfits or hair styles mid-game with an actual character creator at the beginning.

Anyway, I listened to some of the ost last night and it's amazing. It's a whole game filled to the brim with tracks composed by Hiroyuki, I can't wait. It's the only reason I need to buy this game.

I picked up the limited edition but had to take it back because it was damaged during shipment sadly. Waiting on a new copy to arrive!

It's not really a game you'd want to rush through as quickly as possible anyway.

Anyway, this game makes me die inside because the original Xenoblade is awesome but I can't play it. ;-; Not having a Wii U sucks right now.

Still playing it, still enjoying it! Nearing level 30, done chapter 5 the other day as well (been doing the other normal and affinity missions in the meantime). And now I have time off from work!

Gotta say I find the Day NLA music much more tolerable than the Night theme. Because. Yeah. Uh. Uh. Yeah. Uh. Yeah. Yeah.

Anyone encounter a certain red lobster btw? :V

Been enjoying this game a lot! The original was my favorite game of all time, and still is, so I guess I should have expected that.

Yeah, just found that lobster today. Can't wait til I find them all and hear more of the guy/girl's dialogue. I found it really funny for some reason. Also, how are you level 30 just after Chapter 5? I've been doing most all affinity and normal missions I can find, as well as a ton of exploring everywhere but Cauldros, but I'm only level 18 halfway through Chapter 5.

Got it early, played for a few hours. The tutorial segment is long but I assume I'm through the worst of it. MC implementation is poor like I imagined it would be but I'll deal with it. I heard you should read the manual to understand things but I haven't come across anything that I'm confused about so I'll be fine I think. The map feels pretty useless, unless there's an option to make it appear like the mini-map but super-sized that I'm missing.

Music is amazing, I did spend some time running in circles before cut scenes so I could continue listening to the hub music some more. Thank god they added sprinting, that was my biggest problem with the previous game. Text is thankfully not too hard to read, some of the art descriptions are a mess though. Haven't encountered any troublesome enemies yet, I probably might have if I jumped off the cliff near the start but I took the other route. I might have missed a Landmark or Location so I'll go back soon.

Not sure how many side quests I'll do, I keep reading 'affinity quests' around the place so maybe I'll just stick with those whenever I come across them. I'm not going to rush but I don't need to spend 100+ hours on a playthrough with no intention of fully completing the game.

I have to admit, I'm the opposite...I love character creators.

But it won't be too much of a problem though, Crackin, because the generator in this game is limited and most of what is there looks so godawful, which is unfortunate considering how fantastic the rest of the game looks. I had to settle for what looks like a blue-haired Squall Leonhart, which stings even more because I hate Final Fantasy 8.

Have you been taking on Tyrants and enemies relative to your level? They give off a considerable amount of experience, if you've been doing so. I was nearing around level 30 around that time as well.

Yeah, I suppose I've fought some tyrants and been exploring quite a lot without skipping many monsters I could fight near my level (that is, the ones that wouldn't curb-stomp me anyway. That's still happened at times though, haha).

Word of advice btw - when you gain the ability (after chapter 3 iirc?), upgrade your Mechanical skills first. More useful purely because of the probe points.

Since i have a limited time to play X, I've been enjoying it surprisingly alot. Already at chapter 7, taking a little break and doing some online missions and finding nice locations to level up my Blade Level. So far I've found about 2 caves that help out alot. Trying not to ge a little too over leveled but sometimes I wander off and start killing tyrants that give a lot of EXP.

It's good to focus on Mechanical, especially since when planting Probes you get loot also when finding treasures. It's especially useful when you get loot like Storage, Boosters, etc. They help alot when you set up chains for quick cash.

So far my favorite JRPG this year.

There are end-game spoilers in these spoiler tags.

Ok so I beat the main story, the plot became pretty decent after Chapter 5 I think it was, there was one chapter between then and the end of the game that I thought was poor but the rest were pretty good. I had to do some grinding for the penultimate boss so I could purchase a Level 50 Skell but that was about the only time I needed to grind, however I did have a lot of trouble with the Chapter 9 boss. I didn't grind but I managed to get it done barely after a few tries.

I became more accepting of the player character after Chapter 4 since that was the point where they decided to stop using the characters missing memories as an excuse to spoon feed you tutorials and exposition that were all pretty self-explanatory.
    Spoiler:

As for side quests, I did all the ones that didn't make me go and farm enemies for certain materials or run around collecting blue diamonds to complete, unless I happened to already have said items or managed to get them some time after I'd accepted the mission. I didn't grind for affinity for the missions, except one of them that I needed to and that was about an hour of boring mindless slow grinding with very little progression which each battle. I did manage to get Elma, Lin and Alexa to max affinity just from using them a lot. A few others had one heart of affinity, Celica had two.

Skell combat wasn't very enjoyable compared to the grounded combat to be completely honest, ground combat is just so much more fast and fun. I used the Full Metal Jaguar set for the whole game, swapping to the Mastermind since the name sounded cool but kept the FMJ weapons/arts/skills. I liked the positioning attacks with bonus damage a lot. I used the Verus model of Skell since I liked evading attacks, also it wasn't too expensive.

Uh uh anything else to say uh
    Spoiler:

I finished at 75 Hours, probably something more like 70 Hours since I left it on occasionally when I went out for lunch or just went on reddit or something. I think the grounded combat ended up being more fun than Xenoblade Chronicles, with the Skell combat lagging behind. The story wasn't amazing in comparison to Xenoblade but it did get me interested closer to the end, Side quests were handled far better to the point where I actively ran around finding them because I wanted to do them, exploration was really fun and the world the game took place in was great. Worth the time and I have an interest in trying to get 100%, however that will have to wait until after vacation when I have time to spend farming for good equipment.

I think that is about all I have to talk about after playing for the last ten days. Sorry for the wall of text, it's better to just type this all out than keep it floating in my head whenever I try to play anything else. I believe I kept everything crucial to the plot in spoilers.

Oh and the music was amazing, besides the cut scenes sometimes being poorly handled by making the music either too loud or too silent. Tons of good tracks and I can honestly say that I really liked the background tracks for each area, which is something I never really take notice of when I'm playing a game usually.

I got Xenoblade Chronicles X for Christmas, it's going alright so far. Not very far yet at all (like Chapter 1 not far) but...

Something I was wondering though (and idk if this really even counts as spoilers or not but eh might as well throw it in a spoiler tag)
    Spoiler:

I want a Skell though. Always wanted to pilot my own mech
