You be the side plot!

Would you like or even play a Pokemon game where battling and becoming Champion is the side-plot? What I mean is the game's theme will be deeper, more mature, a RPG where you try and build relationships and well, just an RPG. But sticking with traditions, Pokemon battles would determine some decisions. There would be an evil organization to defeat and after doing so you can meet up with past members, admins etc. With more characters and plot-lines being downloadable, maybe the game should be online. Hopefully you get what I mean.

So would you like this type of game or do you like how becoming champion is the aim of Pokemon games?

This would actually appeal to me more than the old "8 gyms beat evil team become champion" storyline. :) I think if a game like this was brought out, it would sell well. Since it's a nice change, and most Pokemon fans would welcome the change. Although the game would take forever to be made. ): lmao.

That would be pretty awesome. Lets face it, with all the new online interactions that pokemon has nowadays, it's only a matter of time before pokemon becomes full online with the option to be offline. lol

Also, I agree with there needs to be a deeper storyline, I also would like to have multiple sub plots. YES TO DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT! If this means I have to upgrade to DSi or 3DS, I will do it just to enjoy pokemon downloadable content. When I say downloadable content, I'm not talking about event pokemon or items... I mean like full on new maps, new story lines, new characters, and new customizations, even new events to attend to in game. Real downloadable content.

Edit: All in favor for a Mature (Teen Rating) Pokemon say "I"!

Having a goal other than to become the Champion for a change might be a good idea, since the "battle to become champion theme" has been used for quite some time now.

I like the idea, it would definitely open it up more. I just honestly would like to see an mmo already, there's so many possibilities and potential that it could potentially give Blizzard and World Of Warcraft a run for their money.

Cant say much more than... ^ This right here.

I really don't like MMOs, but I would definitely pay for a Pokemon MMO, as long as it was developed well and not rushed.

I would also like a game that doesn't follow the formulaic structure of the past games. Even though each game puts a new spin on it, they all follow the beating 8 gyms, evil team, Elite 4 and Champion. I wouldn't even mind if they continued with this structure if the games had downloadable content that unlocked new missions, characters and areas. I think that a few fresh ideas (but not a complete overhaul) could help the franchise go a long way.

I can't say that I would enjoy this game too much, I like the eight badges, become champion plot (although I wouldn't mind Team X being replaced by some random criminals), and if it were to be implemented, I don't see it being overly successful either. Gamefreak has used the same generic formula each game, and it has brought them a mountain of money, and they have no reason to stop.

At the moment, you don't actually have to do any side quests (contests, pokeathlon, poffin making, etc) and you can comfortably complete the game. What I would like to see, however, and what I think would be more viable, would be a greater focal point on side quests, and bigger and better rewards.

As long as the whole champion thing still plays a minor role, I wouldn't mind. It would be the perfect chance to flesh out the usually one dimensional characters in Pokemon games. I'd like a game where your main goal is to fight evil, and not just from one main group. You'd have to deal with minor criminals as well as more sinister mafia-like groups. Maybe even throw in some dating-sim like interactions as well. I'm not so sure I'd do the MMORPG side of it, but being able to design our own character would still be a major plus.

I'd like that, the whole 8 gyms and champion thing can get boring after awhile. It would be nice if they tried something new.

It's already a side plot, Game Freak just won't admit it.

Absolutely agree with the idea of more mature Pokemon game with more complex story and gameplay. The champion conundrum could be a side quest, yes, but a major one. If it so, I hope that the battle against the Champion become much more harder than we can imagine.

For a RPG, Pokemon seriously what it called character development, personality, and side chararacter backstory as well as lacking of side quests.

No no no. No DLC in my Pokemon please. I prefer one full packed Pokemon game rather than have to bought an unfinished one and charged with extra money for contents that should be there from the beginning.

We already have incomplete pokemon games, think of Ruby and Saphire, having no Faraway island, but we have to go way out of our way to download it separately, or think of all the things we have to pay for to have actual downloads to complete the game or the pokedex. The originally impossible to find Celebi or Jirachi.
Wether you like it or not, we already are working with pokemon games that run off of downloadable content.

I'm saying the pokemon games should be a full play through game that is complete and full for the story line, but then later on when the game gets old, Game Freak can release some downloadable content that may be a few extra maps, maybe add in some hard to find pokemon, and then add in the impossible to find Legend pokemon.

I support this because I'm tired of being the guy that buys the pokemon games and can never get that secret impossible to find Legendary. Oh Nintendo just threw an event for it's release in Japan only. Well that's great... for the Japanese. What about all the other countries who are looking forward to having access to that event, we spent money on your games as well.

If Game Freak starts doing downloadable content, than with enough time all players will have access to all of the various events. Don't you want to have a complete game even if you have to download separate pieces or maybe pay a little bit extra to gain access to otherwise unobtainable events?

I fully support this idea. But seeing it as a mainstream game is a bit of a stretch, but I'm sure it would sell out.

I don't really like trying to be the champion. Mostly, it's catch/view all pokemon and finish the pokedex. And even when we are the champion, we still run around amuck. No champion duties at all.

Hmmm, it does sound like a very interesting idea, but I think it's too late for Pokemon to do this... Now matter how much Gen V tried to be all new and different, this sounds like a step too far. The games have always been about getting a Pokemon, starting a journey, becoming strong and beating the league, and I think they always will be. Maybe I'm wrong though...

Well I mean there is nothing wrong with keeping it's original game style, it's just we as players are asking for a little more. BW kind of began to do that and it was very nice and original, but more would be nice. I think Game Freak will follow up with adding more simply because BW was the perfect stepping stone for this transition and was received very well. I'm not a psychic, but I think I can take an educated guess and say that, expect more in Gen 6.

Even if they do keep the original sequence of events they could always build off of them and expand it out more. Which could be hit or miss but trying it wouldn't hurt.

Japanese developer rarely make any good dlc for their games. Even if they really create dlc for their game, most of it just extra costume and smaller set of stages. So don't get your hopes really high for DLCs even if pokemon really took a turn and maturized its franchise.
I can't agree more on the Japanese exclusivity of Event Pokemon. People who live in US may still have get their fair share of local event. but how about us that live in other than the US and Japan? forsaken. Game Freak or Nintendo or who ever responsible for event distribution should distribute event pokemon via wifi after some time passes.

Well, IMO more mature game plot doesn't mean its really need a dlc to extend its life. Pokemon game in nature already have very long time life.

I like the game the way it is already, if it were aim to the fact that I am the champion then in my opinion, the game will turn into a battle tower.

Interesting idea. I think it's a good idea, and the game would sell well, but I'm positive there would be an "I miss the way it used to be! I'm not even gonna play anymore!" type of uproar. The appeal of the game the way it is centres on the fact that it's not just "battle, battle, rival, battle, gym, team whatever, battle, champion, endgame". You have the choice to wander around the entire map, fight everyone, find little hidden things, play with your friends, do side-quests, win contests, take your time with training, trade and breed your perfect team, or just forgo it all and rush through. Even after you become champion, you have the National Dex to deal with. Plus all the cool things you get to do after you beat the Elite Four. If it became an RPG, then it would be an RPG and the point of Pokémon would be lost.
I think the thing to do would be to make an RPG-style spinoff, much like Mystery Dungeon with a better playing style, and sell that while still staying true to the games that made us all Pokémon fans in the first place. I guarantee that half of the people here wouldn't be Pokémon fans if it had started as an RPG game.
