You can now delete games from your Steam Account

Why would anyone do this? It just seems like a waste of money, especially since you can already hide games from your library.

I mean, I guess it's a nice feature to have no matter how unnecessary, but...really, what is the point? Even if you want to stick it to the devs, they have your money and you'll be out a game, so you're only really hurting yourself.
 
Good idea on paper, but not really good in implementation.

If it's in terms of getting rid of the junk, uninstalling it and set the list to installed items did the job better. Or you can refund the junk you don't want.

However I would probably try it for the free games I don't even want to touch.

^ This. The addition of a "hidden" category more than met this need for me already. Plus, ya know, refunds, lol.

Even if it's an absolutely terrible game that I got in a bundle for a few cents, I'll still hang onto it; I'll just "hide" it. I'd rather keep the 1xp and the +1 to my 'games owned' and get something out of its existence, than just throw away something that I paid for (that is literally taking up zero space), no matter how much it was. Though if it was expensive and terrible, there are refunds now. Besides, then I'll know in the future that I already have it, and I won't accidentally buy it for a second time when it inevitably gets bundled or goes on a steep sale again.

...I'm still assuming you'd only do this with cheap Indie games and there are so many of them.. I have honestly forgotten whether I own a game when it pops up in a bundle or among sales.
 
This doesn't work for all games. For an example, I bought the Lexaloffle Humble Voxatron Debut Bundle way back when, and received a Steam Key to redeem Blocks That Matter. Unfortunately, also bound to that Steam Key is The Binding of Issac, a game I absolutely abhor, and upon trying to delete it from my library, I discovered that it would also delete Blocks That Matter. I like one, but not the other, and I'm stuck with both.

Those are still tied to your account? That doesn't seem right. I installed and played Civ: Beyond Earth and Injustice: Gods Among Us during free weekends -- but after the free weekends the "play" button was replaced with a "purchase" button, so I just uninstalled them and now they're gone. They don't show up in my library anymore.

My nvidia GeForce Experience panel had them for awhile, though. It doesn't now, but for about two weeks after I had uninstalled them it wanted me to launch them again so it could optimize them for me, lol.
 
I find it mind-boggling that you can delete games that you poured all your money on. It's just messed up. Unless there's some sort of weird policy of "play for 30 days or so or get your money back", then okay it's understandable. But otherwise, I just find it pointless.
 
You'll want this to get rid of the freebies and betas that clutter your library. It's been long overdue.

You could already do that, though. That's been a feature for years.

It wasn't exactly advertised, but by going into your past purchases you would see an option next to free games and betas to remove them from your account.
 
I see literally no reason to delete games from your account. You can already hide them, games that you installed while they were available on a free weekend, betas, etc aren't tied to your account and disappear when you uninstall them, games you don't care about can be hidden, ect. There's no need to delete games you don't care about since you can just hide them. And, there _are_ reasons to keep those on your profile.

I guess there may be some reason you might have to delete a game at some point in time but I can't think of it.

I've given it some thought, and I believe I've found a plausible reason to use this feature: ego.

Maybe they're really embarrassed that one of their 'friends' gifted them Bad Rats or Secret of the Magic Crystals or something during a sale.
