Your mindset when playing a video game

I mean, it really depends on the game. I'm just gonna say both, as it depends on the game. In comperitive games like FIFA 15, I mostly play to win. When it comes to other chill games, I'm a casual chill gamer. Pokemon is one of them, for example, although PC just made me start my path of competitiveness. Thanks PC.

I hate competitive people and games. I find them rather tedious because I don't understand why everyone takes such things seriously. It always bothers me to see someone rage quit or some other stupid thing over a silly game. I just play them for fun or because I'm in the mood or bored or whatever. I don't even battle in pokemon games or bother with games that have a lot of competing.

I tend to have a strong mindset with pokemon. I'll always be trying to talk to my pokemon and trying to encourage them. Whether they hear me or not is another story. XD I do get frustrated a lot with certain NPCs in game when they do things I don't like as well.

It's a bit of both for me, just varies by game.

I usually lean more toward "relax and have fun," otherwise I wouldn't play games like Animal Crossing as much as I do. :pink_tongue:
But every once in awhile the mood strikes to play competitively.. though I think I even do that kind of casually? Not to say I'm bad at it, lol, just that "casual" mindset, I guess. Like Juno said, I might get a little frustrated when someone on my team is doing poorly, but it doesn't bother me too much. To me, all kinds of gaming - even playing competitively - is still meant to be for fun.

Mostly it's just for fun. But if it's a series I really enjoy like Fire Emblem, Tales, and Phoenix Wright, I'd really want to do everything within the game, haha. Every challenge, know every character, and get every easter egg. In other words, I'd be a ruthless completionist. :3

Personally when i play through a game for the first time, I try to focus on the plot line.
Like with Skyrim, when i bought it four years ago I tried to progress the story as much as i can before completed side plots. With that in mind i have never completed skyrim to this day. I always get sidetracked with side quests!
In addition to the plot, I try to keep my game play up in pace so i'm pretty much always doing something (even if it just like picking alchemy ingredient).

My mindset? Kill everything.. I... I mean to have fun!

That's my mentality when it comes to RPGs since I spend so much extra time grinding them until it becomes painful at that point and then I continue with the story. No roaming enemies will escape my sight when I'm wandering the plains, assuming the game does not incorporate random encounters and have enemies meandering around.

Unless it's Mario Party. Then muk gets real haha.

More like Friendship Breaker Party ;D

I'd say Mario Kart would be more likely to ruin relationships, haha. Mario Party to a certain extent, but I've had intense moments in MK with my friends and cousins than MP.

Mario Party and Mario Kart are probably the only games I take relatively seriously to the point where I will trash talk the crap out of anyone, does not matter what their relation to me. If I recorded everything my boyfriend and I say to each other while playing MK, it would probably sound like domestic abuse. Apparently his roommate finds out intense gaming and screaming amusing though.

Otherwise, co-operative/multiplayer games are played out of fun. After experiencing the LoL community, I'd much rather avoid them altogether and has been one of the main reasons why I stick with single players.

Any game can basically do that to be fair if there is some competitiveness in it, I've had it happen in Borderlands when I sneakily took a pearlescent weapon xD

I generally play games just to have some fun, explore a unique/new world and follow an interesting story and/or character(s). Only game I've ever played even remotely competitively would be pokemon and that's just in the past year. I wanted to battle others and I had no chance unless I figured out IV's and EV's. But even that, I have no intention of doing a tournament or anything serious. I think I'm a pretty casual gamer. I don't even go for completion. Just fun.

I've gotten so into trophy hunting on my PS3 the past couple of years honestly lol. I'm currently trying to get my first Platinum on Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Final Mix because Kingdom Hearts was the game that my parents bought for me along with my PS2, so it just feels appropriate like on a nostalgic-level for my first Platinum to be my first PlayStation game.

ANYWAY... I don't go out of my way to get trophies until I'm done with the story mode. I just play for fun, and only do online if I'm playing with a friend - never ranked or random match-up, which sucks because a lot of trophies are like, "Get x wins in Ranked!" or whatever, which is meh.

I think trophies and achievements are great additions to video games, personally. I feel like I'm experiencing the games so much more fully than I would have if I were just playing on my own accord. I thought that I had 100% mastered everything there was to master in Kingdom Hearts back when I was younger and had my Ultima Weapon at level 100, but after trophy hunting for the game I realized I missed out on sooo much.

I'm not competitive and I don't enjoy being party to any organised format such as being in a clan. I like random, preferably silent encounters where each experience has the potential to be unique; invasions in Dark Souls are a great example of this. My mindset is one eager for capricious whimsy.
