Nimbus (Male, Moxie) - Night Slash, Sucker Punch, Swagger, Haze, Wing Attack, Sky Drop

The wind slammed against Kade as he and Nimbus trailed behind Sky and Sora, their flight over Sharlour revealing the full scope of the attack on the city in horrifying detail. Sharlour was engulfed in flames, an ominous red glow hanging over the city illuminating the ruins of obliterated buildings. Their view of the chaos below was hampered often by thick clouds of smoke, but when his line of sight wasn't obscured, Kade could see the unmistakable signs of hundreds of battles taking place below him: flashes of light, fireballs, arcs of electricity. Kade couldn't make out the details of who was engaging in these battles, but he knew Laurent and several other former classmates had been involved in the tournament. He wondered if any of the battles he was beneath him were them.
"You alright back there?" Sky yelled back to Kade from her place ahead of him.
"Not really," he replied, Nimbus underneath him giving a low cawing of agreement. Sky laughed a little at the earnest reply.
"The hero's meant to pretend they're fine until the action's over, you know! So you might want to get in character, we're nearly there."
Sure enough, the Tower grew ever larger before them as they neared it. Like the city below, it too was engulfed in a furious blaze as more and more pieces of it began to crumble. Large cracks ran up along the sides of the building, and multiple holes had been blown out of its sides. It was swaying precariously.
"Alright, time to go to work!" Sky called back and was answered by five flashes of light and the calls of the Pokemon she had with her. From the light materialised Artemis, Sabre, Nibbles, Buzz and Sprinkles - her Dragonite, Skarmory, Emolga, Yanma and Togetic. It seemed she still had the same team with her as back in Ambrette Town. "Scour the tower and save anyone you can, but be careful not to get yourselves hurt!"
Sky's Pokemon scattered as Kade clumsily reached for his own pokeballs, eventually managing to release four of his remaining team members. Stratus, Contrail, Cumulus and Nox. Unfortunately, Floccus couldn't fly yet and wouldn't be able to help. Nox couldn't carry anyone either but his night vision could at least potentially be helpful.
"Search and rescue!" he called out to them "Save anyone you can without getting hurt, remember to work together!"
They peeled off into two groups, Stratus and Cumulus went with Kade in the same direction as he had seen Sky and Sora take off while Contrail and Nox went the other way after the larger group of Sky's Pokemon.
There was a loud bang and the tower swayed harder, groaning for a moment as Kade rounded the curve of the building. Here there was a particularly large hole where half a balcony and much of the tower it was attached to had been blasted apart. There were no people visible on the balcony's remains, but he noticed Sabre fly off with an Audino gripped in his talons. Stranger still, Sora was simply hovering over the destruction with Sky on her back and across from her, astride an Aerodactyl, was another person, a man that was somewhat familiar to Kade, with a Rotom floating beside him.
The man was fighting something. Kade squinted to get a closer look, barely making out the form of a Scrafty that the man just about managed to shove off the back of his Aerodactyl. With the weight of the Fighting type pokemon gone, the Aerodactyl picked up speed and began to disappear into the distance.
Kade froze in place, nearly losing his grip on Nimbus as he watched the Scrafty knocked from the Aerodactyl and fall. Sora and Stratus both made to dive after the falling Pokemon, but there was a flash of violent electricity and both birds were forced to pull back to avoid it. The Rotom giggled as it floated along in the Aerodactyl's wake, leaving Kade to watch in horror as the Scrafty plummeted into the darkness below.
"W-what-" Kade stammered, he couldn't believe what he had just seen. That man had just murdered a Pokemon he could have saved. A cold weight hung in Kade's chest.
"You shouldn't have done that," he heard to his side, a furious tone. It took a second before he realised that the words had come from Sky's mouth, the idea of an angry Sky was foreign. He looked over to she and Sora just in time to them suddenly shoot off after the Aerodactyl.
"Follow them!" he shouted out, surprising himself, not sure why he gave the instruction. Stratus took off behind Sora with Cumulus and Nimbus, Kade on his back, close behind.
As they closed in, the man turned, a disgusted look on his face. Both young trainer's eyes met the man's own, determination and anger filling at least those of the female Sky Trainer. The man turned his back to them. Before they knew it, the fossil pokemon before them flexed his wings and roared into the above. With that a storm of grainy sand collected into a giant sphere around all five flying pokemon.
"Seriously?!" Sky growled as the Sandstorm took affect. Kade winced as the tiny, jagged flecks buffeted him from all directions like tiny ballistics. It was hard to see through the maelstrom, but he could still make out his companions all suffering the same as he was.
"Cumulus, Air Slash!" Kade instructed, hoping she could break through the Sandstorm. With a flourish, the Oricorio obeyed and a single silvery blade cut through the storm. There was a moment of relief before the sand closed in on them again.
"Not enough, Hurricane!" Sky called out, and a second later Sora was producing the now familiar howling winds. The Sandstorm was blasted away before them, some of the tiny projectiles continuing to swarm over them, but their way was now mostly clear. "Cheap tricks aren't going to cut it!"
The man turned again. "Sloppy," he grumbled to himself with an exasperated sigh. The face of the trainer riding the Honchkrow caught his attention though. He'd recognised him as Kade Andrew's the first time he'd turned around, but the expression on the boy's face. Victor chuckled. He couldn't see anything there. In all his efforts to escape, after everything he almost put himself in giving Drew more time than the boy warranted, the Cinder Admin just couldn't help himself. He stopped his Aerodactyl and turned to face his pursuers. His Rotom appeared on the scene beside him, peaking curiously at its trainer's face, before turning to face their assailants. "Kade Andrews. I don't suppose you remember me." Victor spoke, just loud enough to be heard over the chaos.
Seeing the man more clearly now that they were away from the smoke, the mischievous Rotom leering at him from by his shoulder, Kade felt the hint of something rising in himself. His mind instantly flashed back to a canal in Lumiose City where a vicious trainer lorded over his friend with a Rotom that had destroyed her team and yet called an attack again despite his victory. He never got the chance to reply though.
"He's laughing now?!" Sky seethed, apparently missing the part where Kade had encountered the man before. "Sora, Air slash!"
The Pidgeot flung her wings forward sharply and a pair of shimmering blades of air shot forward towards their target, much stronger than when Cumulus had attempted the same move before.
The man faltered in the grandeur of his gestures. Rather than panic or act, he simply scowled at the incoming attack. His Rotom appeared between its trainer and the blades of wind, taking the full brunt of the attack with a smile as it winced in pain.
"Nothing, hmmm?" Victor complained, genuine disappointment in his voice. "Regardless, I just wanted to congratulate you on your performance at the Parfum Contest." He added, waiting a moment to see if that provoked any response.
"Oh shut up already!" Sky growled "Right through!"
Apparently understanding exactly what Sky meant, Sora suddenly slammed her wings shut as shot forward like a bullet with a Quick Attack. Ignoring the Rotom in her way, Sora passed directly through the Ghost type without any interference and slammed into the Aerodactyl behind it, knocking it back.
Kade watched this, but his mind was elsewhere, reeling.
He was at Parfum too? After Lumiose he was right there?
The Aerodactyl shuddered, seeming to take more pain from the low damage Normal type attack than any Rock Type should. Victor didn't so much as stumble in response to the sudden jerking beneath him though. Instead, the scientist continued to stare up at Kade. The boy was staring into space. Close to breaking. "Your performance was actually quite riveting. If not for the scintillating performance of Miss Baker, you surely would have won. I must say, I'm disappointed in the way you've replaced her." He finished, looking down at Sky. She had already cracked, and it bored him, but Kade…
At the mention of Brie, Kade's head snapped toward Victor's direction like the needle of a compass. Kade wasn't good at reading people, but it was strange to bring her up here, to talk about replacing her. What was he talking about?
Nimbus crowed menacingly below Kade.
"I thought I said shut up!" Sky yelled again, this time there was no command when the attack came. Sora immediately, at close range to the Aerodactyl, let loose with an Air Slash.
"Dodge." Victor sighed, both his Pokemon twirling in response, the Rotom unnecessarily so. The Aerodactyl winced as it turned upside down, while gravity seemed to barely affect Victor at all. "You're quite rude, aren't you?" He sighed at Sky. "Rotom, keep her entertained with a Discharge, while I discuss Mr Andrew's contest routine." He waved as the fossil beneath him flew over to the Honchkrow.
Before Sky could give chase, the electric ghost appeared before her with a dopey smile plastered across its face.
"Now Kade, I am curious." He began, finally easing up. "Where is Miss Baker? She couldn't be down there could she?" He added, pointing down to the burning city. "I assumed you travelled with her, yet she's nowhere to be seen."
Kade didn't look back to Sharlour, his grip on Nimbus tightening unconsciously as the Honchkrow's rumbling, crowing sound grew louder in warning.
"I don't know where she is," Kade replied, tone flat but his hands shaking. He didn't get to say another word though before their conversation was interrupted again. At the same time as a crackle of electricity was seen in Kade's peripheral, Stratus gave a predatory screech and dive bombed the Aerodactyl with an Aerial Ace as Cumulus cried out with surprise at the sudden move. An instant later, there was a pulse of wind and Victor's Rotom came into view, flung past Victor's back.
"Let me guess…" Victor persevered despite the pokemon beneath him being knocked back again. "You lost her in Cyllage? Ambrette? Geosenge?" He cycled through locations, knowing at least one would've been the disastrous setting for the girl's disappearance.
Kade twitched at the mention of Geosenge. He'd been there, he'd let go of a lot of his baggage, but he hadn't finished his recovery. He opened his mouth to say something, but he didn't know what words to make. Deep in the back of his mind he was seeing blinding white light. So he almost didn't noticed when a very different light began to illuminate the night. His head drifted to the side as Sora exploded from a cocoon of prismatic light, mega evolved and making a B-line right for Victor.
For the first time, the fossil Pokemon was sent hurtling through the air from the attack. Despite all the uncontrolled twirls from the Pokemon barely bothered its trainer, who stood firmly, latched on the Aerodactyl's back.
His attention wavered from Kade. Instead it fell upon Sky and her Pidgeot. "Mega evolution?" He mused, examining the angry sky trainer for just a moment. "Perhaps I didn't give you the credit you warrant. You've certainly put yourself ahead of both Kade and young Mr Tucker."
"Mr Tucker?" Kade questioned quietly, the name rang a bell but he couldn't remember ever meeting a Mr Tucker.
"It wouldn't take much to put myself ahead of you either," Sky snapped "Kade, are you with us?"
It took Kade a moment, but he registered the question. He turned to Sky and nodded. Whoever this man was, he was doing something to get inside Kade's head. It was like he knew things that he couldn't, sometimes things about he himself that he hadn't even realised. He had to get a grip… but his mind was still reeling.
"Good," Sky replied curtly, before turning back to Victor. She didn't offer a command, but Sora immediately attacked again, unleashing a Hurricane of brutal intensity against Victor and his two Pokemon.
The hurricane was forced away about as soon as it appeared. Her opponent's leg began to glow, and could just about make out the Aerodacty again wincing as it was surrounded by a prismatic orb. The orb gleamed intensely before dulling and greying, then falling apart and revealing a Mega Aerodactyl. The intense focus on the girl's face weakened. The fossil Pokemon before her, this Mega Aerodactyl that she'd been slowly beating down, looked fresh as it had when they'd seen it depositing the Scrafty just moments ago.
"If you were not so rash in your assaults, you would have noticed there are still people in the tower that need saving. I'd advise making that your priority," he pointed to the tower, that they'd left in the distance behind them. The last explosion blasted apart the peak of the tower, sending huge chunks of rubble out over the ocean. "One of your classmates, Drew Tucker was in that tower. Perhaps you could have saved him, but now, he's suffered the same fate as Brielle in Geosenge."
"What?" Kade stared blankly at Victor. It now made sense to him, Drew from the school's surname was Tucker. He was in the tower? The tower that just exploded? Brie was missing. Geosenge? Did the man do something? He'd killed that Scrafty in cold blood.
For a moment, Kade was staring hopelessly as the beam of light fell upon Geosenge and he was too far away, too helpless. Two people he cared about and a whole town with them, gone in an instant and he'd just watched, unable to do anything. How was this different? He was sitting there watching Sky battle Victor while the tower fell apart, while Shalour was in ruins and while his classmates were probably all dead or dying. He felt his body shaking, he couldn't control it. He couldn't do anything… or could he?
Sky had said this was different, that he could make a difference this time. The two of them had already set most of their Pokemon to saving all they could from the tower and now he was a long way away. It was just he and his three Pokemon, Sky with Sora and that man with his Aerodactyl and Rotom. The man that attacked Brie in Lumiose, that murdered a Scrafty before his eyes - who implied he'd left Drew to die in the Tower of Mastery. He was not going to let this be another Geosenge.
Kade looked hard at Victor, it was as though icy water had washed over him. There was a clarity to his thoughts that he'd never felt, a calmness and a coldness he didn't know he possessed and yet at his core he felt a burning rage. Still staring coldly at Victor, Kade made up his mind.
"Stratus, Double-Edge and Cumulus, Air Slash!"
"Finally." Victor smirked as his eyes met Kade's own.
Cumulus looked horror struck at Kade, unable to process the order that he'd just given. She could see that attacking that Mega Aerodactyl was suicide. Stratus on the other hand, didn't seem to care. She pulled back slightly, then dove. A furious, blazing orange light erupted into being around Stratus as her wings snapped shut and she rocketed forward towards the Aerodactyl.
"Quick Attack!" Sky called, Sora immediately launching into the fray. She overtook Stratus and once more slammed hard into the Aerodactyl, unbalancing it slightly and leaving it open to the vicious Double-Edge.
"Ugh, Rotom step in!" Victor ordered, just a moment too late. The Rotom appeared before him, the same mischievous smirk on its face. The Staravia simply passed through it with the normal type attack and collided heavily with the cloned fossil.
"Do not let that happen again!" He grunted, frustration bubbling inside him. "Rotom, Discharge again. Aerodactyl, back up and then provoke another Sandstorm!"
Hearing the order the trainer gave to his teammate, the flying type acted quickly, just swooping out of range from the electric type move. As soon he was safe, he began to flex his wings once more, swirling another storm of granulated rocks.
"Sora, Air Slash!" Sky instructed, but her Pidgeot was already moving to intercept. With a hard flap, four shining blades of air were shot forward, exploding in a pulse of wind as they reached the Sandstorm and clearing it out.
Stratus wasn't as lucky. The flash of crackling electricity raced passed the Pidgeot as she flew forward and struck Stratus, she cried out in pain and dropped down, spiralling several feet towards the churning ocean before she was able to reassert herself and regain her balance.
Kade winced seeing Stratus take the hit, but it was as though seeing it from miles away. He was focused on Victor, tunnel vision locked onto the man while he was distracted. Even as Victor had ordered the counter-attack, Kade was giving an instruction of his own.
Out the corner of his eye, he saw the look of shock on Sky's face as Nimbus swooped down quietly behind Victor, talons outstretched and sunk them into the man's skin.
"You're not going to be killing anyone else after we drop you in the ocean," Kade spoke quietly, eerily calm.
Victor glared back at Kade, genuine shock on his face. He swung round and backhanded the big bird pokemon on the side of his head.
Nimbus winced slightly, but he'd taken much harder strikes than anything a mere human could dish out. He sunk his talons deeper into Victor and flapped hard, trying to pull him up off the Aerodactyl… but Victor didn't budge. It was only then that Kade realised that something was digging Victor's legs into the Aerodactyl's sides like spurs.
"Nimbus-" Kade began to instruct his Honchkrow, but the sentence was cut short by another loud bang and an ear splitting cracking sound. Kade turned back to the tower, seeing a huge flaming gash in its side as more and more of it began to crumble and topple into the water below it.
"Our Pokemon are still there, we have to go back and make sure they get out before the tower goes down!" Sky yelled across at Kade as though the idea of letting Victor go physically pained her. "Come on!"
She gave Kade a second glance, deep worry etched into her face, then Sora took off for the tower, flying as fast as she could.
Kade glared at Victor, but in that moment his bloodlust was immediately wiped away. He was not a violent person by nature, the safety of his and Sky's Pokemon took precedence over vengeance against Victor.
"Nimbus, let go, we have to go back to the tower," he sighed.
Nimbus crowed savagely and tightened his grip, appearing for a moment as though he would disobey. Then, he relented and released Victor from his grasp, backing up and turning back to the tower with Stratus and Cumulus in tow.
Victor fell to his knees, clutching onto his now gaping shoulder wound. He looked up, and watched the duo leave with their pokemon. Even with the agonising pain in his shoulder, he smiled. "Rotom, test them, one last time. Then catch up." He spoke in a muted tone. The command was enough for the Aerodactyl to get the picture, the fossil beginning in the opposite direction to the two sky trainers.
Rotom took its opportunity. The same dopey smile etched across its face, it zapped forward and watched the trainers fly away for just a moment. Its smile grew just a little as a grey sparking cloud formed just in front of where Kade and Sky were flying.
In an instant, the cloud began to glow, before firing a booming strike of electricity down on the trainers and their flock of birds.
Sora, still mega evolved, cleared the space where the lightning would strike before even realising something was amiss, keeping Sky well out of harm's way. Nimbus however was not as fast as the Pidgeot - even when she wasn't Mega Evolved - and was right in the blast's radius.
Time seemed to slow for Kade as he instinctively looked upward to see the sudden swirling of storm clouds above him. There was a crackle and a flash, and in that moment Kade was sure he and Nimbus would both be dead.
But the strike never hit him. As if materialising from thin air, suddenly Cumulus was between he and the bolt, surrounded by the eerie light of several wispy spheres of purple light. The orbs intercepted the attack, holding off the worst of it before the Thunder broke through and collided with her, engulfing her in the bright electricity although Kade and Nimbus were shielded from harm.
Then in the next instant, the attack was over and Kade was watching in horror as, charred and smokey, Cumulus plummeted from the sky. Stratus screeched, diving into the darkness after the fallen Oricorio and snatching her prone form in her talons.
