The promo for the new Ghostbusters film has attracted more "dislikes" than any trailer shown on the YouTube website.
At time of writing, the trailer for the comedy franchise "reboot" has more than 647,600 "dislikes", compared with about 220,800 "likes".
That puts it 18th in YouTube's list of most disliked videos - higher than any other item of non-music content.
The trailer's unusual ratio of views to dislikes suggests a concerted campaign to vote down the video.
According to the ScreenCrush website, "a certain subset of people on the internet... are teaming up to downvote it into oblivion."

Released in July, Ghostbusters sees Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and others take on a franchise previously headlined by male leads.
Its director, Paul Feig, recently told The Guardian that disliking the film because it has female stars was "just a non-starter".
Justin Bieber's Baby video is currently unassailable at the top of the YouTube rundown with 6.05 million dislikes.
Its nearest competitor, the promo for Rebecca Black's much-mocked Friday single, has just 2.05 million dislikes.

Not exactly, the reason it's the most disliked trailer because:

    1. It's a remake of a beloved franchise that no one wanted.
    2. Fans wanted a Ghostbuster 3, which will never happen now that Ramis is dead.
    3. The jokes in the trailers were unfunny and cringe-inducing.
    4. The whole plot got leaked on reddit, and the scenes shown in the trailer were accurate to some of descriptions from the leak.

There's more this issue than it meets the eye, so I will provide a 2-part video that goes into full detail about the situation of the remake:

  • Well, that settles it. I'm definitely going to see this movie now. If all the mansplainers don't like it it's bound to be good. At least, that's the lesson I learned from Mad Max: Fury Road.

  • The trailer itself wasn't that bad in my opinion. It's just that people don't want a remake, and unfortunately not everyone is happy with an all female lead.

    People are just... bleh :/

We've had female Ghostbusters prior to this remake (in the cartoons and comics), so it's really the former.

Indeed, Cringe worthy and Unfunny. It's already had to reboot/remake a beloved franchise like Ghostbusters but crossing those boxes along side it pretty much guarantees a shit fest.

That's definitely a big part of it unfortunately. I still think the trailer was less than stellar, so I think those who attribute it entirely to men not wanting female leads are oversimplifying.

Also 4chan probably raided the trailer for a mass dislike imo.

  • Not that I'm defending the movie. It looks pretty bad. Why reboot Ghostbusters? It wouldn't work in modern day anyway.

How would it not work in modern day to be exact? If there were plans for a Ghostbusters 3 prior to the remake, then it clearly there's something about the franchise that isn't outdated. Heck, outdatedness was a major plot in the one of the new Muppets movies to counter this mindset.

I think a huge part of the dislike is from the fact that this is another reboot of an 80's movie that was liked so much by people who saw it in the 80's. Wasn't Robocop and Total Recall also just rebooted? Looking up the general rating between the original versions of Robocop and Total Recall and comparing those to the general ratings of the reboots, the reboots all scored less than the originals.

Fans of a source material generally don't like having their favorite things touched by people who don't "understand" the material the way that the fans do, however misguided that thought is. Rarely do you get the fan that sees it as a reimagining of the source material. Mostly, the reaction is pure rage.

  • We don't hate it because it has women in the lead roles. There's plenty of great movies with female leads. Plenty of badass women in movies too. We hate it because it's a reboot that nobody wanted - like most reboots - and because it looks like it will be even crappier than the Ghostbusters sequel (which is saying something).

There's no need to turn an issue of taste into a feminist debate. That's creating a problem that isn't there.

  • "There's no one better at quantum physics than you!" *shot of a drab looking Kristen Wiig standing in front of a whiteboard filled with mathematics*

... aaand of course there is a sassy black woman on the team. How could there not be. Sigh.

I can see why people dislike the trailer. It even starts off with that familiar over-dramatic sequence of aerial shots, punctuated with redundant text in between. I would reserve judgement on the actual movie until I see it though. I generally enjoy Wiig and McCarthy, so it might still be good.

Alien and Aliens are prime examples of great movies with female leads, Seriously what more could you want from a badass women then fighting an Xenomorph Queen in a Power Loader. Going back to why people hate the trailer, I have to agree with anyone one of pie's quotes about people not wanting reboots. Reboots are most of the time horrible sure you get an occasional good reboot like Golden Eye, Casino Royale, Gamera Guardian of the Unvierse, Amazing Spider and Batman Begins but most of the time they really are just horrible. Nothing in the trailer made me laugh and there was quite a few moments that actually got me to cringe. The one and only good thing about this movie is that they will probably put the first movie on TV a week before this comes out.

  • I read the title as "Mythbusters" and I was so heartbroken. :c

The trailer was really just "meh". It wasn't all that good. And when people who love Ghostbusters see a trailer you would only rewatch to scoff at more, they press dislike. Besides, Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig are both hilarious people and are very well suited to be in a Ghostbusters movie.

I guess we'll have to wait and see but right now, it's not looking so good.

  • As has been previously said, the problem isn't that the cast in this movie is all female. Ghostbusters could potentially work great with a female cast. The problem is that this movie feels like another classic movie series that is getting a modern reboot solely because those in charge know that reboots, even lackluster reboots, are great ways to get people to give them their money.

    Also:

I wish we were getting a Mythbusters reboot. But maybe its just too soon.
