You can postpone getting Legendaries its just you have to collect 10 VPP's between each one. You'll have to wait at least until December to get your birthday one. I'll be changing it to the month instead of the week just to make it easier.

As for new Pokemon and Gen 8 I'm waiting till the beginning of the year before I put those out just to get a feel for everything and update for the new Gen.

Points are what you earn for each. You'll earn 10 less points for seasonal because it takes less posts to finish them.
