They were probably R/B/Y just because they were basic compared to newer ones.

^ WTF?! Gen 1 shouldn't be up there because it was the original generation. Graphic limitations prevented many 'intricate' or complicated design.

    Gen 4. Plain and simple.

All generations have their pros and cons with Pokemon designs, and I don't think any generation has more bad designs than good ones.

I would say Gen III has the most designs I dislike, but I still like most of the Pokemon there.

None of them has the worst. Some are more creative than others. And if you think that gen IV has the worst, you havent been looking very closely. They are actually getting more creative with the designs. Look at freakin Arceus! lol

Gen III irked me (e.g. Nosepass, Regis, Ludicolo, Volbeat, Minun, Exploud, Hariyama) although Gen IV is the next contender (e.g. Electivire, Magmortar, Magnezone, Lickilicky, Tangrowth, Wormadam, Phione). I hardly use them nor enjoy seeing them.

    Um, no. Creative=/=Good

Yes, the designs are getting more creative, but some of us dislike all the round features that are so common on the Pokemon today, It's ridiculous. Some ideas were nice, like the concept of a beaver Pokemon, but had terrible execution (Hey, Bibarel.) Looking through pictures of 4th gen Pokemon is like looking through a pool toy catalog.

    I think...

I think 4th generation because, by the time passes it getting worse, they now look like robots or digimons :\

I agree. What really bugs me is that they no longer pay attention to anatomy. Look at Pidgey and Kingler, then look at Starly and Crawdaunt, you'll see what I mean. There is almost no attention to bones, muscles, paws, wings, and other details you'd find on real-life animals. Pokemon have practically no angles in their entire bodies now. This is why Pokemon now look robotic.

Well I know this will just sound like a broken record, but I'm going to say generation IV. I agree with GlitchCity. The designs were just so complex that somehow that ended up taking away from them then adding to them.

    Gen 4.

    Proof: Magmortar

Thats about it. Gen 3 was pushing it for me, Gen 4 was too much. Gen 5 should be "interesting".

If you look a little closer at the Gen 4 ones, they still very much had as much originality as the previous Gen's designs. But I do have to agree that they got a bit complex when you reached the legendaries, and though every Pokemon had a decent animal or object it was based on, there are quite a few Gen 4 Pokemon that are confusing in terms of design.

Not to mention they went overboard with designing evolutions for all the good Pokemon from Kanto. The Johto and Hoenn evos were decent, though.

They are getting to be more like Digimons
I wouldn't call them digimon, digimon has a different style all of it's own.

Actually digimon, is now looking more like Pokemon, fourth generation Pokemon any ways.

    Now it's like Neopets. NEOMON.

    Lulz.

Yeah. I agree with the majority here. Generation 4 wins (or loses, depending on how you look at it). I like some designs from Gen 4, but most of them bug me.

I understand that there are fine lines between lack of creativity (cough Voltorb cough) and complete insanity and just plain ugly designs (I'm looking at you, Purugly), but... really. Some designs could be better.

Yeeaahhh, I'm going with Generation the First myself. They were too plain overall. I mean, don't get me wrong, stuff like Mewtwo and Charizard were great, but:
    Pidgey.
    Magikarp.
    Nidoran.
    Weedle.
    Rattata.
    -_-"

And I don't think every one in all the newer generations were super duper, either. Probopass, and need I say more?

I mean, if you were looking at 1stGen replacing 4thGen, you probably would not be impressed. I look at it like this:

Overall (and remember that word), if Generation A was released at the same time as generation B, would you still like most of the Pokemon in A more than most of the Pokemon in Generation B?

Though, it's all kinda paradoxical if you take into account that had we started with generation 3 or 2 or whatever, this following generations would probably be completely different than what we have now.

As for what I liked, the designs of Generations 2 and 3 were best (2 was kind of convincing to me somehow, and I liked the vibrant, uh, vibe 3 had), followed by 4, followed by 1, in terms of creativity and design.

    Luck

Bull. Every other game had graphical limitations of some sort. It's their fault that they decided to put it on an early handheld.

    Generation 1.
It was all too dull of a generation.
3 poison gas cloud pokemon(koffing, weezing, and ghastly), all of whom are clearly unoriginal, even in their current generation forms. A pony set on fire, a pool of sludge, a bunch of eggs, and what else? A terrible tentacle rape pokemon just below the starting town.

Generation 4 had poison dart frogs, woolly mammoths, emperor penguins, beavers, pimp crows, skunks, masked lovebirds, scorpions, and probably more.

This is most definitely biased, but personally:
