Let me just say, you can never run out of ideas. That's humanly impossible.

While I don't like the new Pokémon (apart from this one here) I find it silly how you all are saying "They're not being creative!" "They're running out of ideas!" without looking at the big picture. They're trying something different, and while I don't like most of the results because they remind me so much of Yu-Gi-Oh cards rather than Pokémon, I respect that. We've seen Pokémon previously shown and they all have somewhat of a resemblance to Pokémon from past generations. I think you guys are comparing them too much to Pokémon from the past. Pokémon has a life of it's own after ten+ years! It's growing and becoming more involved. These Pokémon being introduced in this generation live in Isshu. If you remember, Isshu is so far away from previous regions - the Pokémon should have some outlandish qualities!
I agree. This Generation V completely reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh. By just looking at the Pokémon, it feels like I'm playing some of the Yu-Gi-Oh's games. I just hope they don't "over work" on the new Pokémon. I agree that they should try something new, and that this Gen. isn't going to the as the first three Generations but they should try to keep it simple just like Pokémon has always been, in my personal opinion.

I'm honestly not liking the new Pokémon so much, but I'm not going to make any prejudices. I'll wait until we get to see the rest of the new Pokémon and hope for the best.

I don't think the developers are running out of ideas, but I will say they're lacking in creativity. I know some people will disagree, but I can't help but relate the design of the Gen V Pokémon to that of Digimon *shudder*. I'm also not enjoying the new Pokémon very much, but then again, Ononokasu is pretty epic.

Game Freak is only now starting to get creative. Take a look at Gen I and II. Count the number of Pokemon that are real life creatures/objects with very minute changes.
I'll give you some help; Krabby, Pidgey, Persian, Ekans, Arbok, Bellsprout, Grimer, Exeggucute, Tauros, Goldeen, Ledyba, Pineco, Remoraid, Mantine, Stantler, just to name a few. Oh, and let's not forget the ingenius Voltorb (which is a Pokeball) and it's evolved form, Electrode (which is an upside down Pokeball.)

These Pokemon are vast improvements from what Game Freak has sold us in the past.

Now that is entirely opinionated. I felt that the more realistic the Pokémon were, the more I liked them because they felt closer to home. Not in a vanilla way, but in such a way that I was able to immerse myself into the game a lot easier.

Taking a dragon and gluing on some sythes and armour automatically makes it creative and an improvement, nay, a vast improvement?

The more fantastical and vulnerable to memes (Bidoof anyone?) the Pokemon series gets, the more it comes off as a kids game.

Also people out there calling the "nostalgia vision" argument need to stop it. You may be plucking on a different string, but you're just plucking it over and over and over...

I really think Ononokusu looks like it could be Rock/Electric. I also really think it is one of the coolest looking Pokemon ever. Maybe an exaggeration borne out of excitement but still, it's like Tyranitar but about 10 times awesomer.

I agree. I'm sick of people pulling the Nostalgia Excuse whenever somebody says they don't like a feature of Gen V instead of automatically loving it. :|

Except the problem is that most of the time, it is a nostalgia thing. A lot, if not an overwhelming majority of the complaints I've seen, are that it's not exactly the same as it used to be. The "nostalgia goggles" thing may get used a lot, but people who whine "they changed it now it sucks! Pokemon is RUINED FOREVER!" got old a lot faster. People don't need to "automatically love" it, I have no idea who ever said that, but these ridiculous claims about "they look horrible! They don't even look like Pokemon!" are just mind-numbingly foolish. It's in the game, drawn by Sugimori, it's a Pokemon. It's that simple. And people refuse to accept that there have been designs of varying quality across all generations. They pick one design that they don't like from the new ones, and claim that because they personally don't like it, then the whole generation and everything related to it must suck.

That's not a good argument. That's not common sense. That's nostalgia, plain and simple. Especially when most of these people are going to buy the games anyway (and as I've said before, if they're not buying them, they really have no right to complain).

(And on an entirely different point, just 'cause Serebii says something doesn't mean it's right, guys.)

And I've not heard anyone yet explicitly state that they do not look like Pokémon. I've heard claims that the design style has changed, that they now resemble Digimon or Yu-Gi-Oh monster somewhat, but never that they don't look like Pokémon. I'll agree, there's a point where a rational "I think it looks ugly" seperates from the more radical "OMFG so ugly has spoiled Pokes now!".

The point is, whether it's nostalgia guided or not, it's still an opinion, and unless it's so ridiculous as to point blank state that "it doesn't look like a Pokémon", then it should be respected.

The two top most pokemon on the first picture look badass to me!

This! If these guys turned out so beastly, I really want to see what the rest of the Pokemon will be! The one in the dress is...interesting hehe.

I'm excited to know the little Ecto-Plasma Bear's typing. I'm assuming pure Ghost, or maybe another Electric/Ghost if it is indeed based on Ecto-Plasma.
Uh, Serebii said something about it being part grass so it's grass/ghost or grass/electric most likely
Edit: nevermind I miss read it, it was talking about a new move called grass mixer :P

I agree they should be respected, but a lot of the times it does end up w/ the 'it doesn't look like pokemon'. Actually I was having an interesting convo w/ another user in another thread on by what they meant a 'hardworkiing' pokemon was and why they thought a certain gen 4 pkmn wasn't 'hardworking' just b/c of its design :D.

I hope that the Axe dragon has an evo that's cooler though it does look more like a final form but still can you people imagine if it had an evolution, it would make all other pokemon we have seen so far look like well bidoof...

I dont really have much comment on the new pokemon, but i love that green ghost bear thing... It better have a new typing... I do tend to rely on the moveset, so if they are unimaginative, they wont sell. The rock thing that DOES NOT LOOK LIKE PROBOPASS just doesnt seem creative at all.

I have one thing to say:
    THEY DISGUST ME.

They do not look like Pokemon, the old ones they announced were cool, but now this? There's too much going on, I mean look at the old Pokemon like Ekans. Purple Snake, that's it, no weird parts or anything. Right now they absolutely DO NOT look like Pokemon.
