You just KOed a shiny. What's your reaction?

  • I generally always have a Pokemon with false swipe in my team for this exact reason and i generally just trade a master ball over at the start of my journey to avoid this accident so in saying that i have never killed a shinny.

  • I would feel absoultely awful if this ever happened to me. I had the unfortunate opportunity of seeing a Shiny Paras in the Safari Zone and not being able to catch it, so I know how it feels to let one get away (also seeing the old man in Fire Red catch a shiny Weedle nearly made me punch a hole in the wall).

Since then, I've always had the policy that I would never use my Master Ball for any sort of legendary Pokemon, as they can be saved in front of and caught in a different type of ball with a little effort. The Master Ball is always reserved for if I ever see a shiny. Thought it would be better to be prepared then not, and my plan finally worked when I instantly caught a shiny Ducklett the other day. Granted, I probably could have caught it in something else, but if it had been a Shiny Voltorb or something, at least I would have been prepared.

Not saying that this is necessarily the best idea as shinies come up so infrequently, but it never hurts to be ready.

My reaction would actually all depend on what type and what species the shiny is. If its a Bug type, I truly would not care (I hate Bug types). But, if for example, it was a shiny Ralts, Cresselia, Latias, Suicune, Mesprit or any other Pokemon that I really like, I would definetly be very ticked off.

  • Don't worry, I totally understand. Something like that happened when I was little. I encountered a shiny Ryhorn on Victory Road in Pokémon Gold. I made my Feraligatr use Surf on it, and it fainted. I wasn't the brightest 7-year old.

I also encountered a shiny Wingull once at the start of Pokémon Sapphire, before I fought Landon. So I couldn't catch Pokémon yet. I had to defeat it, and I cried myself to sleep afterwards.
I read every comment, a laughed a lot. But I dided on this one. It's just so pathetically pitiful, that it's funny. Everyone else lacked poke-nballs, a move got them, or somethign else. With you, you just couldn't have Poke-Balls yet xD xD XD
So, so very sad. And the fact that you cried yourself to sleep multiplies it by 10.
    lol

Anyway, I'm quite rather unlucky. I have never come across a Shiny. Ever. At all. Other than seeing my brother come across a shiny Kyogre (and then I accidentaly reset his gameboy by dropping it...). I suck.
But, I probably wouldn't use it anyway. I'd just keep it in the box as a "trophy" I guess.

  • I never KOed shinies myself, but if I did, I'd rage for a few minutes, blaming the RNG for causing the critical/making the ball fail to catch the Pokemon, etc., then calm down.

  • Considering I have never even SEEN a shiny, (I don't count the shiny Gyarados in Lake Rage, which I did catch) I would probably start screaming and yell expletives no matter where I am. I would then bludgeon whatever was closest to me with my DSi. Considering I normally have a high level party with me where ever I go, unless it's a low level pokemon, I wouldn't have a huge chance of catching it. Because of this thread, I will now go and train a pokemon with status moves and False Swipe to take with me wherever I go.

Screaming, maybe throwing the game down on my bed and beating the hell out my pillow and then getting over it shortly after I release my anger. I'll probably have a short temper when it comes to other people as well, though. It's only happened to me... about twice. I'm sure it happened more than that, though, and I just didn't pay attention because before Generation IV I wasn't even aware shiny Pokémon existed.

  • I have had it happen to me before. Believe me, not a pretty sight. I got very angry, but came to my senses and calmed down.

  • I'd always be cautious when running into a shiny, I'd try and catch it with most health possible, even after one hit. This almost happened to me the other day however, I ran into a Shiny Roselia and I wasn't even paying attention, just grinding for levels so I was kinda watching TV and just repeating Tackle. Luckily I'd looked down and noticed it was a shiny so I was extra careful and thankfully caught it as my second shiny.

Ah, yes, I remember the first time I failed to catch a shiny. Crystal Version back in '01. It was also the first time I found one that wasn't the Red Gyarados.

*runs through Route 37, encounters shiny Pidgeotto*
    Me: Oh my god!!
    *GBA batteries die immediately*
    Me: *gasp* NO!!! D=

  • I've had this happen once. I was eight, playing either Gold or Silver, was "in the zone" and therefore not paying much attention to what I was doing- just going round, pressing A constantly.

Needless to say I was a bit upset when I saw a Shiny Rattata's HP drop to zero and faint. Sure, it was a Rattata, but it was SHINY. And to this day, it's been the only non-event Shiny I've encountered.

  • I would feel like a failure ! I already do, cause I have been playing Pokemon Black for a total of 298:38 hours (Ive just checked) and havent ran into a shiny yet.

My friend who have been playing Black for about 30 hours caught a shiny Clefairy. My cousin who is also Black playing for about 20 hours, caught a shiny Trubbish .

I guess it's totally random *sigh*

  • I've never KO'ed one but I did curse out the shiny Abra that teleported out on me (my first shiny too and it was completely random).

  • My head would explode. The level of anger I would, my body would not be able to sustain it. Unless it was a shiny Rattata, then who'd give a toss.

  • Here's my reaction...in detail.

A Lv 14 Wild Shiny Zubat appear! D:
Sends in my Lv 20 Sandshrew :3
Calls back Sandshrew and sends in my Lv 11 Mareep >:3
Wild Zubat uses Leech Life...take prolly 7 HP off. >_>
Uses Thunder Wave...Since Zubat's faster, it use Supersonic... )':
    It misses and I get Thunder Wave off...and Para Zubat. :}
Uses Thundershock. Watches as Zubat's HP rolls down... :x
Me: Alright, cool...After it stop, it should be weak enough to capture.
Watches as it starts to go pass the yellow mark. :l
Me: What the? Okay...you can stop now...it's just a damn Thundershock.
    Zubat's HP empties out...completely O_o
Me: Waaah? But Mareep's 3 levels under...
    Suddenly "A Critical Hit" appears.
    Me: -___-

I've only ever met one shiny Pokémon which was a Rattata (hooorrrraaaayyyyyy...) so there was no problem catching that with a regular Pokéball, but my main shiny hunts are for Koffing and Exeggcute. I'm hunting both in Gen III meaning Koffing's very likely to self-destruct and Exeggcute's likely to flee in the Safari Zone, so I have a feeling this'll happen to me soon. If it does, I think I'll probably quit the game there and then as that's my chance over for another 8,000 or so Pokémon. xD Although I'm certain I've found way over 8,000 Pokémon in total so I should've found more than just one Rattata so far >.>
