  • So what do you think of hashtags? Do you find them annoying? Or perhaps you use them? Do you think they're a convenient way to pull up search results on social media sites?

These days, I'm pretty much annoyed by the fact that hashtags appear everywhere you go, especially in television shows. Some shows even will show a 'live feed' of their Twitter account in-show (such as The Talk on CBS, which shows a Twitter feed ticker with tweets posted to the show's account by viewers.)
Just about every topic in the world can be made into a hashtag now, but I'm not all that fond of 'follow this one' or that one.

  • I'm not a Twitter person, so the only place I use hashtags is Instagram :P And even then I try to keep them to a minimal in comparison to some people I know who write paragraphs worth of hashtags...I find them quite useful in that you can filter out what you're specifically looking for.

Didn't bother with them before I got a Twitter, unless I was mocking them.
Hashtags can be useful or interesting, but it's overdone. People overuse them to obnoxious levels. Seriously, you don't need 20 hastags in one post.

I've only used hashtags when talking about subjects I want people to find me for. They do help in that way.

    #But #when #every #word #is #a #hashtag, it's annoying. That's not a good way to get your tweets or whatever noticed because those aren't important words.

It's even more annoying when people use hashtags on sites that don't use hashtags. What's the point?

I'm a member of neither Twitter, Instagram, nor any other sites that use them, so no hash-tags for me. :( I used to have a Twitter account, though, which I deleted few years back. If I still had it and were active, then only time you would see me using them is when referring to something in particular, such as either movies, TV shows, music, or books.

  • I don't mind hashtags on Twitter and other sites that use them, as long as they're used for their intended purpose. I use them on occasion myself, but only if I'm following along with a conversation on Twitter.

Oh, and maybe that one time in the April Fools thread, which has a hidden message if you hover over top of it.

These are real status updates on Facebook. This person writes almost entirely in hashtag, every single post. I get using one or two relevant tags in a post, but this kind of hashtag abuse I find pretty annoying.

  • I actually never noticed you could now hashtag in Facebook until a couple weeks ago and I facepalm-ed. If you're going to use hashtags, at least use useful ones and not ridiculous ones that make me question your IQ -.- I try to keep my Instagram ones to less than 5-10.

  • I tried using them.. once on Twitter but it was awkward even though Twitter is hashtag heaven. Outside that first attempt I've never used 'em as I don't find a need to. They can get very, very silly. One of the current ones trending on Twitter US is "#ThinkOfALieToGetOffThePhone" lol whaat.

  • I only use hashtags ironically, or to get free stuff. In the former case, I generally do it around good friends, but I really don't mind who I do it around, and it's the same for the internet. In the latter case, I do it for the sake of giveaways and the like, the ones that make you retweet things. I don't really mind what I retweet since that's basically all that my twitter account is for.

I'm sorry, what? XD What is the purpose of that tag? So I made a screenshot of my ex-roommate's (who I absolutely despise; only person who I actually hate with a passion) Instagram tendencies. She goes completely overboard with the tags:

    Spoiler:

Why are all those necessary? Also, something I dislike about social media in general, and probably an underlying purpose for tags is that people want "likes." I've had friends tell me to like their photos just because they want them, to which I obviously decline.

  • I don't care about their usage online (I personally use them pretty often), but it grinds my gears when people use them in real life... it's just not necessary, even if it is in jest.

Tell me about it, haha. It's also really annoying to read #thosereallylonghashtagsthatrequireyoutoconcentratetofigureouteachseparateword.

I personally don't use hash tags that much myself, but I see them used a lot by others.

Not a #addict, but I don't mind them on the internet. Out of the internet is where I draw the line.

  • I'm alright with hashtags every once in a while, but am not at all a fan of overuses. #I #don't #freaking #get #why #people #do #this. Sure, they help me find related things easier, but when I see a post filled with hashtags, I cringe both internally and externally and avert my eyes. The only place I use hashtags is on Twitter. Even so, I only use one or two, not twenty.
