I have the same opinion for megas as I do for character customization. Though it is a nice feature, if for whatever reason it wasn't included in these games, that would only mean that the game will be improved in other areas, which I would appreciate.

The GBA was really comfortable and convenient for me. Though the DS and 3DS is undoubtedly better, it's just that at the time I was more excited playing Pokemon on the GBA than the 3DS today.

I think Game Freak just tried hard to innovate in this generation as I recall around that time I heard a lot of people complaining the games were basically the same each year, though I do agree partially with that, you can't expect a franchise to release completely different games each year...
